  • OCR Document Scanning in your pocket

I’m not one of those “I remember when hard drives were the size of washing machines” type of guys, but quality OCR on a phone is pretty dang impressive. When you see the price, this app is an incredible value. I use it all the time in my research, but it is starting to slip into my personal life too. It is SO much easier to find a PDF version of that receipt or idea you captured than trying to look through all the pictures in Photos.

  • Still using after more than a year

Just a good easy to use app, with solid features that work. Some apps come and go, but scanbot remains one of my most used apps after more than a year of use!
  • Fantastic App / Support

I wrote these guys because I paid for the OCR, but couldn't find a way to use it with my flatbed scanner. I explained what I was trying to do, and they got back to me (on Easter Sunday, no less) to tell me how to do it. Their email was pleasant, easy to follow, and worked like a charm. (I wasn't even expecting a response).

Kudos to the developer! The text recognition is probably on par with Acrobat DC (depending on the quality of your original document), but it doesn't retain formatting as well. Ultimately, I got way more than I expected for $5 vs around $149/year for a subscription to Acrobat.

I'm very pleased with the purchase, and recommend this app to anyone who needs to archive paper documents in a search-friendly way.

  • Easy to use

Scanbot has been one of the simplest and easiest to use scanners for the iPhone I have used. It is just a few buttons and you’ve got a good looking rendition of the page/a you’re scanning, it is easy to set it up to automatically upload to your cloud storage if choice, and possibly best of all it doesn’t require a on-going subscription to use all of its features.

  • Make sure you have your game face on.

Granted I haven’t even gotten an opportunity to use the app to the capacity of my own choosing as of yet...I’m still incredibly disappointed that what looked like the introductory page, (showing off all of the features and whatnot) was actually a sorry way for this company to get the customer to buy $8.99+ packages. I’m only 29, and I’m not stupid, but I’ve been extremely sick for a somewhat extended period of time...so yeah, I don’t always have the time or the brain power for tutorials; however, I am SO GLAD that I happened to glance down near the very bottom of that “introductory page” and see those price increases with each extra feature.
*Stop patting yourselves on the back for putting the prices in a pretty, unique color from the rest of the page, because you lose the ability to congratulate yourselves when you literally decrease the font by 3 or 4 points*
I’ll still use you if your product seems to work well, (although I’ve already noticed that the “free version” charges very high amounts to purchase the credits necessary to use the fax feature.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry to hear that you have been very sick! But still, to be honest, I can’t really understand the point of your review and it seems to be filled with a lot of assumptions. So first, yes the development of an award-winning scanner app costs money and we’re offering you to purchase more features. They’re not mandatory. Be our guest to use the free version that we offer since 4 years for no charge at all. Just don’t give us a bad rating that hurts the company because we do have in-app purchases for Pro users. I believe it is quite natural that the price increases with the number of features. We didn’t invent this mechanic and it is very commonly used for most goods and services. Second, Apple will always confirm your explicit intent to purchase anything by letting you confirm your selection and then as a second step by making you enter your Apple ID password or via Touch- or Face ID. Nobody can trick you into a purchase! I hope you might reconsider your rating and use our support option (support@scanbot.io) if you have any questions or concerns. Best, Christoph
  • Excellent!!

Using this app is so much faster than my desktop printer scanner! I scan my documents after each meeting whilst I'm out on the road and it saves me time doing this when I get back to my home office. One note for improvement - the app can get quite mixed up with which way to display a captured page - very often I have to rotate the pages individually before saving - other than that - well done guys.

  • Great scanner application, but...

...I have had a few issues with some recipients not being able to open my scans at their end after sending the documents to them via email as PDFs. I currently have the free version and haven't upgraded to the pro version for this reason... which for me is the main purpose for owning and using this application. If this worked 100% of the time, as I think it should, then I wouldn't hesitate in getting and trialling the Pro version (before using as my main scanner - something that I need to do many times every day whilst away from my desktop printer/scanner/fax unit).
    Am I missing something, perhaps...?
I think I have been very generous with my star feedback considering the amount of time it takes to take all of these scans/photos which I might then need to fall back on to send on to any recipients as they are, anyway! This is in the hope that there might have been a very simple reason for the inconsistencies...

  • The near perfect scan app

I moved from TinyScan as their support & updates became non-existent. I wanted an app that auto uploaded to Dropbox - something that only a very few apps feature.
This one works perfectly except one annoying flaw- the flash.
It’s not often I take photos in even light. On other apps I would use the flash which filled in any shading or creases on the paper and therefore made them disappear when converted. Unfortunately Scanbot uses the torch feature as their flash which is no where near bright enough so any folds or shadows become big black marks on the paper when converted. Not sure why they couldn’t use the iPhone proper flash like other apps.

If this was fixed it would be a straight 5*

  • Go for it

    Updated:
The developers really did a fantastic job with the v7 update! (And the Sharing menu now works properly.)

    Original:
One of the nicest-looking scanner apps, but doesn’t get the job done. The shadow of your hand and phone always comes up on the document and the filters can’t adequately get rid of it. On top of that, when you click “Share” the Share menu doesn’t show, so the document’s stuck in the app unless you want to email it (I don’t).

  • Excellent scans and automatic cloud uploads

Fantastic document scanner with wonderfully clean and straight scans. I used indirect sunlight through the window.
Making multi-page PDFs to scan my bank statements was a cinch. Uploading to Google Drive was automatic.
    Definitely worth the money! 😁
