No more maths phobia

I have spent my whole life being scared of maths. In about a week of using this app, it seems to have gone. It’s early days but I’m feeling much more confident and even beginning to enjoy doing it. The format and design of the app is Brilliant for someone like me to learn from. If you find maths scary, this app will help you too. Give it a try. It’s worth the subscription

Decent, but could certainly be improved.

The app is great for fundamentals, but there seems to be no quality control. The amount of bugs/code that needs work is rather surprising. Not being able to generate new practice questions is a pretty big drawback too. It surprises me how much money Brilliant spends on advertising, given how little it would cost to improve the app. Im glad it exists, but it’s not going to age well if the app isn’t developed further to compete with the ai assisted learning software that’s coming soon. It’s great for what it is, but it’s a little basic.

Shallow and Not Particularly Broad

If you want to brush up on maths concepts it’s handy but I don’t really feel like it goes deep enough to reach the level of familiarity I was seeking. I personally wound up using Khan Academy for my self learning. And every topic that isn’t maths that I wants to learn or brush up on in the style Brilliant offers was available.
That’s said the interactive learning and explanations for incorrect quiz answers are really good. It just didn’t do what I was hoping for and at a somewhat steep price.

Great Content - Horrible Navigation

I’m really enjoying the interactive “twiddle with the knobs to see how it works” style of learning. There’s definitely a load of great content here.

But…I’m finding navigating the courses infuriating. I can’t find a complete, clear list of all courses, chapters and lessons and where they sit in the “learning paths”. It seems you have to blindly drill down into the courses to see exactly what they contain. There also seems to be no simple way of viewing a list of completed lessons and (very importantly) a way to quickly hop back to a previously completed part of lesson to refresh your memory. I really feel like I’m having to fight with the app to get what I want from it. Perhaps I’m missing something?

Effective Learning of Complex Topics

The instructional design of these courses is, well, brilliant. When combined with just in time interactive experiences which support making mistakes, provide timely feedback, and provide recall, Brilliant is a powerful way to learn.

Great for learning small issues though…

I’ve used this to learn pre-calc through calc and that intuition it gives you is amazing. I can’t say I love the style but I’ve gotten used to how the problems are worded. For example, some of their equations used very technical formulas and coming from school to this is a whole different style. Give it a few days though and you can figure it out pretty easy along with some YT videos to help you. One problem I run into a lot is the screen seems to freeze I used to just close the app and it’d work but now I’ve been stuck after force resetting my phone and deleting the app. If this issue gets fixed I’d say easy 5 but the fact I’m stuck without any help from their website or the app making it disfunctional is a bit annoying. Hope to see this fixed and glad to have a learning tool at a somewhat reasonable price (premium)

Easy. Fun. Learning.

I discovered this app while trying to find a good early education app for my 2nd grade whom is a struggling reader. When I first downloaded it and opened it I thought it was just another to delete from one of my app downloading splurges. But I always attempt to give the app developers a chance to win me on the app. So I started to explore around on it and I came to find out it wasn’t for my 2nd grader it was for me. I have enjoyed many of the different courses I came across from parenting to coding. They aren’t to long nor a lot of reading, that’s what I love about it. You can sit and watch the video to become more educated on the topic of choice. I have yet to find one con about the app thus far. I will update if I do find something I can’t look past with the app! Great job!

Still has the same massive bug after literally years plus new huge bugs!

Still, the daily page does not update correctly. It used to be the case that the only way to get it to update was to kill the app and restart it but now it updates after you switch away from the “today” tab or open a daily puzzle. So they improved it but didn’t fix it. A competent engineer could fix this in an hour. It is not confidence-inspiring at all when every time I go to the app the front page is out of date. UPDATE: The devs have introduced a new bug which prevents me seeing an explanation for the daily puzzle. After a second of showing the explanation the screen flips back to the list of courses. Amazing software engineering skills.

Final update: Now it’s hard to even find the daily puzzles. What are the devs doing?! Unsubscribing.

Fantastic but PLEASE fix the app’s admin

This is a really special app. I love it so much. But please, guys, fix the admin side. I’ve been using it on and off for a few years and the payment and account management on the app still stinks! I just renewed my subscription but I can’t get access to the content. I tried adding my apple id to my Brilliant sign in but it’s too buggy to even let me do that!

Please fix this stuff. I know you’re working hard on the content but this is important. It doesn’t need to be fancy; it just needs to work!

Nice app, don’t like the in app subscription info

I have just started using Brilliant under the trial service.
I find there is no information stating when my trial started, when it ends, whether it will auto renew, what will be taken from my account. This is basic stuff and really these subscriptions for apps should have constraints pushed from Apple to developers to make subscription details available within the app whether under a Trial or paid subscription.

There is very little clear information about what is the current status of my subscription.
This we know is always done on purpose. Considering this is a learning tool app, I find this lack of clarity disappointing. The developers know better and should implement better.
