  • Aesthetically pleasing, ease of use left wanting

I had used the Bills app for some time now and was very happy with its layout and usage. I decided to buy the Money Pro app expecting an even better experience. Though the look of the app is great, I have lost some of the most important features I enjoyed in the free Bills app. For example, Knowing how much money I will need / have extra between upcoming paychecks was very important. I can no longer select a period of time with a quick tap and slide to get the net of bills/pay. I now need to literally do this math on another app or device which is quite frustrating. I will be going back to using the free version until this functionality is added.

  • Don’t subscribe to their Pro service until they fix this issue

Overall I really like how Money Pro’s user interface, and I purchased both the iOS and the Desktop version (a total of 4 devices). However, I have been experiencing issues after issues once I began subscribing their Pro service. First of all, I noticed that one of my devices occasionally will not see my Pro subscription (it keeps popping up the screen asking me to either restore or purchase the subscription). This goes on and off for a while, and I couldn’t figure out why this is happening. This happened again recently on my iPhone. Out of curiosity, I tried clicking on purchase this subscription button (as the “restore purchase” doesn’t work), I found out the hard way that I double paid the subscription.

I emailed their support, and the support rep asked me to pull the diagnostic data for them to view. However, I am unsure if the instructions are incorrect or if the UI has changed, but I couldn’t even locate the view where I can pull the diagnostic data.

At this stage, I am unsure if this is what I’ll continue to use. I’m currently waiting to hear back from their support.

  • Doesn’t interface with bank

I purchased both the app and the subscription through Apple. The information that was provided by Money Pro was that the software would interface with my specific bank (the bank was listed when I searched for it through the Money Pro software.) After wasting an entire afternoon trying to make it work, I learned, from my bank’s tech support, that Money Pro does not interface with my bank. I requested a refund from Apple for this product (since I bought it from Apple), but it turns out that Apple does not give refunds for 3rd party apps and subscriptions, even when purchased from Apple, and the app offers no way to contact iBear LLC to request a refund. My next step is to request that the credit card company reverse the charges so that I get my $55 back.

  • Not Usable After 1.9

I purchased this as a replacement for iReconcile (best finance app ever!) a few months ago. It was pretty good and I was getting used to the interface until version 1.9. I have an iPhone SE and the app was running great. Now it takes several minutes to open and 90% of the time it crashes while trying to open. It also doesn't open all of my accounts most of the time and I have to close and restart and wait and hope it opens all of my accounts. The support guy I was emailing with finally apologized for my inconvenience and closed the ticket, while assuring me they will continue to work on the issue. I think I have been more than patient enough. Surely I am not the only person having this issue. I am looking for a replacement for this and will not use their software or recommend it to anyone. I know it is a phone app (so I have minimal expectations anyways) but as an IT guy I also know that communication and support are the foundation of recurring customers... And sales. Lost a customer.

  • Issue: multiple categories on a transaction

Tool is excellent except when it comes to multiple categories on a transaction. Case in point, you go to the grocery store and buy groceries and a prescription. Under Money Pro you can split out the charges. However you can’t give a unique description per charge. In addition, when you list transactions under reports you see just one lumped transaction and not broken into the categories. Under Microsoft Money you were given a type of spreadsheet to enter multiple categories with a description for each. During tax time being able to have a spreadsheet by categories is extremely helpful

  • Best Finance App

I have purchased or tried pretty much all the apps, with them being too limited or way over complicated. This is the first app I have found that can easily track all types of spending, cash, check, credit cards, etc. You can set your budget to be as simple or complicated as you like it. I love the ability to tailor it to my exact needs. Only downfall is the themes are lame. This is the first time in my life, I finally feel in control of my finances. Total Adulting Moment, being happy about a finance app. Lol

  • Doesn’t work all the time

The concept and design overall is nice, but there are a few issues that make me hesitant whether I should start using it or not..
    1. We should be able to easily add new transactions. The “+” only shows up in the right upper corner in “Today” tab. In my opinion, it should be in the middle of the bottom bar.. and also, the number pad is tiny, it is hard to input the balance.
    2. After 5 minutes of testing, there are over 4 crashes already in the budget view. Not sure how it will perform when there are more transactions and budgets stored.
    3. Default currency is useless. Even when I changed the default currency in the settings, the summary bar still show the USD equivalent amount. Not everyone wants to see their summary in USD. What’s the use of setting default currency if the summary is shown in USD anyway?
    4. When setting budget, it’s fixed to be a monthly budget. I was able to select the end date to “Never”, but it doesn’t save even I clicked save. When I go back to the budget settings after saving, it still shows the end date as this month instead of “Never”..
    5. While we are able to see the budget vs actual, there are no reports for this comparison.. I was hoping there are more report analysis for this.

    Developer Response

Hi! Thank you for your suggestions! 2. We would like to learn more about this issue in order to fix it, please contact us at support@ibearsoft.com. 3. You can change the currency of each account separately: Open the "Balance" tab >
Tap "Edit" > Select the account > Tap the "Currency" field and select the currency from the list > Save the changes. 4. Tap "Edit" in the Budget tab before editing a budget – it will default the duration to the viewing period selected at the top of the page.
  • Great, but needs some improvements

After looking at MANY tracking apps, I finally settled on Money Pro for $5 (to bypass Lite restrictions). It has a very modern interface, which also means some aspects are only intuitive after “being discovered”. When the interface is learned, it is very pleasing to use.

It also incorporates budgets, without being over-zealous. I used to only track expenses, now I need plan expenses and adjust spending behavior..

While this is the BEST personal-oriented money manager I have been able to find (with HomeBudget Sync also deserving mention), it is not perfect or quite feature-complete.

I hope some of the issues below can be addressed.

    (-1 star), because
    - It is missing some useful charts and burn-downs. For example, it’s not easy to see current expense per budget relative to the amount of time in the budget cycle.
    - Can’t list all recurring payments without finding them in the calendar?!?
    - No way to “budget savings” ie. record positive progress to a saving goals.
    - Would like over-budget item coloring ring to indicate “how much over” (should not count true discretionary entries)
    - No truly “discretionary” budget type. $0-budget item still a budget..
    - Would like to see indicator of recurring autopay in transaction listing..
    - Crashes occasionally when editing budgets (edit still saved) and does not appear to correctly “end edit” when switching operations.
    - For recurring payments it would be nice to specify date without a time.

  • Terrible Support

Purchased this app wanting to be able to handle all my finances - checkbook, savings, investments, etc. Entered transactions including setting up bills to be paid in the future and money transfers to cover the bills but couldn’t find a way to see my balance at a future date. Did I have enough in my account to cover the bills I had scheduled through the end of the month or did I need to transfer more funds? Pretty basic requirement I think. So I wrote tech support asking just that. Bottom line, two weeks later, several back and forths that were completely unhelpful and I still don’t know the answer. I have never seen worse support. Just tell me - no it doesn’t or yes here’s how to do it. It really isn’t hard.

  • Perfect Expense Tracker

I used a popular Mac/iPhone budgeting app for years, but it increasingly got away from expense tracking. This is *exactly* the replacement I was looking for. Track expenses (and income and money transfers) by category. Add notes if you want to know who you paid and why. Set up recurring payments and reminders that bills are due. Track bank accounts and credit cards. Simple, intuitive, yet more flexible and powerful than it looks. If you take a day or two to get to know it and take the time to add in all your recurring expenses, most of the work is done. The sync function works beautifully; I use Money Pro on my iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and iMac. If you’re a gazillionaire tracking dozens of investment portfolios, maybe look elsewhere, but if you’re like me and you just want to keep track of all your bills and know what you’ve spent even if it hasn’t cleared your bank account, you’ve come to the right place.
