  • Seems okay to me.

Was somewhat hesitant to buy Foscam based on the poor reviews of the app. But decided to take a chance. Haven’t had the camera installed long enough to review the hardware, but the app is working fine for me. About the only thing I don’t like so far is it takes longer than I’d like to get a notification when a person or a car is detected in view. Might be a setting I can adjust but I’ve played around with most of the settings and nothing makes it better, and my camera is connected to my 5G network with very solid connection status. So the issue is not my wireless connection. But all in all this app isn’t as bad as the 2.4 star rating would make you believe.

  • Been trying really hard to like

Connectivity to the cameras often is slow and often fails even though the camera is online. Even when that’s not an issue the app is not able to access the SD card most of the time. It’s either the files do not appear on the app or the camera needs to reconnect again, or when you do see the files and want to view, they will buffer until it fails or if you want to download it mostly partially downloads then fails. When it partially works it could take half and hour to download a file after repeatedly opening and closing the app. More recently, the file do not load at all even when reopening and closing the app multiple times.

It’s been a very frustrating experience.

Besides this, the cameras I have are made of some kind of silicone that melts away over time. Time to look out for other brands.

  • Doesn’t pre-record on motion events!👎🏻

This cloud recording service is unreliable and technologically way behind the competitors. For example, most of the recorded motion events are recordings of nothing, since this service does not pre-record motion events like all the competitor’s services do. AmCrest records at least three seconds prior to every motion event, therefore you catch everything in your recordings. With this app, if a person, or a car are moving quickly past your cameras, you only get a blank recording. By the time this service starts recording, the person or vehicle has already passed the camera and is long gone. This service would only be useful, if it would pre-record motion events, like the AmCrest service does. Without this feature, this app and service are absolutely useless.👎🏻

  • Improving, but still clunky

First off, I could have sworn that I wrote my first review at least 4 years ago (circa 2017), then updated as conditions warranted. For some reason it’s no longer available. Anyway, this app was quite inferior to the 3rd party apps then available. Unfortunately many of those apps have been orphaned or removed from App Store. So I’m left with this one. Although it has improved, 3 stars at best (up from 1 star).
On feature that I’d really like to see is one-click enable/disable of the alarm. Is that too much to ask?

    Developer Response

Dear LarryKxx58, sorry about the inconvenience you had. Could you please update the Foscam app to the new version 2.3.1 which is released today to check if your problem will be resolved? Thank you.

  • Slow connecting

Connecting is slow and sometimes the data stream stops. It should be very fast on the local Netwerk unless it is sending data elsewhere and then back to my phone. It would be nice if they had a local-only mode that did not log into the cloud service and connected quickly and reliably.

I still do not understand why it takes so long to connect to a camera on the local network, let alone all the connection attempts that fail.

  • Very disappointing

The foscam app was pretty good before, but it has become mostly a platform for the company to send out advertisements. I’ve been using foscam cameras for years. It has become harder and harder to manage and configure those cameras with each new revision of this app. While the advertising has increased with each release. Third party apps are better at viewing the cams, but you need this app to configure. In hindsight, I’d find another cam manufacturer.

  • I do not recommend Foscam

First of all, this app is extremely slow to load livestreams your cameras. Sometimes, the cameras will not load at all. Foscam focuses more on selling you their cloud services, than producing a reliable app to view your cameras. The only thing guaranteed to work on this app are the endless pop-ups and advertisements for their cloud services. I was prompted to write this review, based on Foscam’s latest invasive, annoying, advertising tool. They have now placed a little animated cartoon character on the screen of your cameras’ view, once again prompting you to buy their cloud service. I thought I could use Foscam for a professional security camera solution. I was absolutely wrong. So embarrassing to show this app to anyone and have some childish, animated cartoon characters on the screen. If you are looking for a professional security camera solution, I’d recommend avoiding Foscam.

  • App with NVR 8 channel.

App works fine for monitoring but if you get an alert on your phone, you have to go into alarms then get the channel and time of the alert then go into Recording Play Back and search. Then you have to scroll through the 30 minute video looking for that timestamp.

You should be able to just click on the alert and go straight to the alert video.

  • App has gone downhill

Foscam has done downhill in the 5 years I’ve had it. Now it takes FOREVER to connect to a camera it used to connect immediately with. Frequently one camera I have won’t connect when I’m not at home. Though oddly it connects if I’m home. Hear something outside? Too bad. By the time you connect (if you do connect) whatever it was is long gone.

And now I get ads every time I open the app. No I don’t want to buy your cloud service. That’s exactly why I bought the camera - because it didn’t have cloud service at the time. Nor do I want to buy a new camera. The ones I have don’t connect.

Foscam should focus on improving their existing services not adding new services.
