Almost there

Great overall music player. Much better than the Apple stock player. Two things holds this back from a 5 star review. 1) search function doesn’t work. The search button disappears and I can’t search. 2) playing queue is inconsistent. Sometimes it remembers where I left off listening and sometimes not. I have to go to the Apple Music app to remind it where I left off.

Clarification: the search tab doesn’t disappear. I can type a search but nothing comes up. The keyboard at the bottom can’t be hidden and I can’t switch back to another tab. I have to close the app, restart ios, or delete the app to play music again.

G

So sad to hear how absolutely awful Apple are at playing nice with 3rd party devs. Can’t say if it’s distinctly better or worse being stable but lacking in features, it’s kinda both really. Either way, for the honesty and truth-telling, my review is going from a 2* to a 4* review. Only from truth can wisdom come. That and fully documented software processes ...

Cesium is what a music app should be

I have been on Cesium now for about six months and am extremely pleased. I have over 4,000 songs on my iPhone 7+. The main reason I bought Cesium was to be able to control my music by "Artist" instead of "Album Artist" (which seems to be the only way Apple supports). Album Artist is typically something like "Various artists" when you have a compilation album like "Best of the 60s". On Apple if you try to scroll by artist for songs by Cream they will not show up if they all come from a compilation album.

As many other Cesium reviews have pointed out, the interface is simple and efficient. Try shifting between artist, album and song on Cesium Vs Apple. Enough said...

I love this app enough that I just gave the author the largest tip his app allows. I hope other users support him as well.

Don’t put up with Apple’s Music app, buy this

It’s a very simple thing. I have over 30 thousand tracks on my phone. Over a thousand artists. A few dozen genres. Apple’s Music won’t let me sort be genre and then artist. Cesium does. Quickly. Worth the money just for that.

It’s also quite nice for artist pictures to match the artist. Apple Music is very hit and miss. Usually it’s blank, occasionally it’s someone else entirely. Cesium picks an album cover to represent an artist. Sometimes the simplist solutions are best.

Lastly, Cesium gets regular updates with useful things. Rather than whatever matches Apple’s current business model.

Garbage.

This is terrible. There is only a way to stream from one’s own iTunes. One cannot load one’s music to phone for offline usage. Items do not consistently appear. Select a file to play and another might begin. Quit the app and sound continues to play. A broken app, I’m afraid. And I want my money and time back.

Response from developer

Thanks for trying Cesium, I'm sorry it didn't live up to your expectations. Downloading/removing local files is a violation of iOS sandboxing policy, so isn't possible, unfortunately. Different songs playing from what's selected sounds like it could be a corruption of the iTunes library itself. In any case, refunds are handled by iTunes Customer Service, I suspect if you contact them you will not have an issue getting refunded.

What music player should be like

This is what Apple’s built in music player should be, instead of the confusing mess it is.

Understanding but disappointed

Recently, the app was updated to account for API’s Apple no longer supports, which meant several features had to be cut - notably queue management. While the app remains beautiful and is more stable than before, I simply can’t give a higher rating to something now lacking a feature I used so frequently, and that remains in the base Music app. It’s near daily that I’m either working out or am on the aux with friends, and want to be able to queue up a playlist and then at the very least view the next few songs set to play and be able to remove songs from that list. It’s very disappointing to see this feature be totally gone now. Will happily return my rating to five stars if it ever comes back.

Cesium 5 - Perfect!!!

I originally went with Cesium because it was the closest thing I could find to the old Apple Music app before it went belly up with everything I didn’t want in a music app. I loved Cesium and especially enjoyed and got used to some of the added features; especially the queue management. As time went on, and Apple continued to make changes to how iOS handled music, I could see it was a real balancing act for the developer to try to balance app stability along with keeping features that users were accustomed to having, but at the same time features which were making the app unstable. The developer tried to balance it as long as he could, but in the end chose to have a stable app at the cost of losing some features. Although I enjoyed the old queue management and will miss it, I am thrilled and will gladly exchange it for an app that is now totally stable, not “buggy” and is lightning quick. Many thanks to the developer who truly loves his app and is working diligently to make it the very best it can be.

Restoring originals

Hi there, is there a setting I can use to default original files and playlists in my desktop rather than the Apple Music versions? When I first set up Cesium I was very pleased to see files appear that were purchased outside the Apple ecosystem. However, overnight something synced and playlists mutated to songs only available in Apple Music. Can you suggest a way to restore and lock? Thanks
