  • Time for bug smashing and general update

I have Pixelmator on multi iOS devices and my Mac computers. I do like the app in general however the latest version in iOS 17.6.1 has a number of issues.
The text alignment option will switch to left after beginning in center. The files are sent to the bottom of the page while they used to be at the top.
Sometimes the text style selection window will go blank and one must close and reopen to continue text style selection. Sometimes when opening an new image the app will say “can’t open now” or something like that. Again, open and close may fix that.
I hope this will help your techs in fixing these issues.

Thanks for taking the time to share feedback. The text editing issue should be fixed in the next Pixelmator update. If you still experience issues after the update, feel free to drop us a line at support@pixelmator.com and we'll dig deeper.
  • Getting worse

Creating a new image and now I can't find it again...updates just makes things worse

    Developer Response

Sorry to hear that you've having trouble with that! If you haven't already, it'd be great if you could use the Report Issue feature (you'll find it by tapping on the three-dotted icon at the top-right when editing an image) to send over some diagnostic information our way. This will allow us to take a closer look at the issue and see what we can do to help. If you're not exactly sure how to go about doing that, you can also simply drop us an email at support@pixelmator.com and we'll help out from there.
  • My favorite editing app since 2016

Friend asked what I used for editing and I suggested this. They were shocked to see how expensive it was. I didn’t remember paying that much so I looked it up and I’ve been using this app for almost 10 years and paid half what it costs now (thanks inflation!). But I would still pay that today since I use it all the time.

  • Hadn’t opened in a year, then WOW!

I spend so much time with Procreate, I just never bothered to open Pixelmator. It’s come a long way with excellent Retouch tools, layers, tons of features to fix, improve and create stuff in the art, design and creative universe. You can easily fix the screwed up areas of your AI outputs from Leonardo and MidJourney. Glad to see the team didn’t let this app get stale.👏🌟👍

  • Need Pixelmator Pro for iPad

Pixelmator for iPad is a good all around product and so is Photomator. But both are lacking compared to Pixelmator Pro on Mac.

The iPad Pro has the same powerful processor and graphics of a M1 or M2 Mac now, so there are no hardware limitations. And there are far more iPad users than Mac users nowadays. The iPad touchscreen gives so many more options for photo editing with the Apple Pencil over the Mac.

So I really hope they bring the full Pixelmator Pro app to iPad soon.

  • Does the job, with style

Having tried most of the big (and many small) photo editors and graphics creation apps for IOS, I keep coming back to this one. Mainly because it works in a way that seems largely intuitive to me. It isn’t overly complex, yet has enough versatility to cover most standard and some more specialised tasks. What I would LOVE to see added are the kind of graduated shaped and adjustable fades as seen in Xara Designer. For example,an elliptical fade that can be manually adjusted, revised and positioned at will.

  • Doesn’t compare to Pixelmator Pro or Procreate

I love Pixelmator Pro on my Mac and I was thinking how nice it would be if I could use my Apple Pencil with it. Then I saw it was available on the iPad, took a (too quick) look at specs and bought it.

I was shocked by the user interface—there are virtually no visible tool or layer menus, and the ones that are there take multiple steps to get to what you need and then are severely lacking in capabilities compared to Pixelmator Pro and Procreate.

Unfortunately it just doesn’t seem to be able to do any of the things I needed it to do, or if it is doable, I can do it more easily on Pixelmator Pro or Procreate so I have no use for this app. I’ve requested a refund.

  • Best All Around App For Creators

This app can replace so many of the single tool apps that nickel and dime you for subscriptions. This app replaced Canva, Photoshop and their sister app (Photomator) can replace Lightroom.

It works so well on Macs, integrating with your photos in a similar layout to the photos app so finding photos is a breeze.

If you’re a professional photographer and need heavy lifting, I would probably still be stuck with Adobe.

But if you’re someone who likes to creator some photo art on their spare time and put content out there for creating, then this app is the one for you. Break free of being stuck with the subscription nightmare that we live in and get this. It’s far easier to learn than Adobe apps and the workflow is smoother.

My apps are now Final Cut X for video, Pixelmator for editing and Photomator as Lightroom. Now I need to find a good sound editing app and I’m all set to make videos out constantly paying $100/month in subscriptions.

I hope this app doesn’t go towards a subscription model and just has you pay for major updates that you can opt out of if you don’t need.

I have definitely recommended this app to other creator friends.

  • Poor iPad experience, but solid iPhone app

I’ve been a big fan of the Pixelmator family of apps for years, but I’m really disappointed by the iPad UI and painfully limited feature set of this app. They’ve had years to improve it and I just don’t see any progress on the iPad front.

I totally understand the compromises that were made for iPhone, and this app shines on that small screen. But compared to Pixelmator Pro (or Pixelmator Classic, RIP), this app is a toy. The fact that there isn’t even a proper toolbar for the iPad experience is baffling.

Hiding so many basic functions behind layers of menus doesn’t make sense on an 11 inch screen. I would pay good money for a proper Pixelmator Pro port for iPadOS.

  • Great app with one glaring omission

I’m still feeling my way around this app and it seems to have everything I could need except the ability to mask. This is an essential part of my workflow so it’s quite the handicap to be without it. There is an erase tool but that is destructive to the image so not a great workaround. Masking in this app has been discussed for a long time on the forums but there hasn’t been a definitive answer from the developers as to whether this is a realistic expection or it just can’t be done. Both Lightroom and Art Studio Pro have pretty robust masking on the iPad and iPhone. Masking would make this a 5-star app without a doubt.
