  • Does not save all changes

I used to love this app, but it has become very buggy. The main issue in recent months is that it often fails to save changes. I might do a lot of work on an image, but when I close it the app forgets several of those changes, so I have to reopen it and repeat a lot of the work I had already done. It’s got to the stage where the advantages of the app are outweighed by the time-consuming inconvenience of its unreliability.

We're really sorry to hear that you've been having trouble with Pixelmator lately. We're aware of this nasty issue and are looking for ways to fix it. One thing you can try is checking your storage settings in the Settings app under Pixelmator. If it's set to iCloud, you could try changing the storage location to on your device and see if that helps. If it doesn't, please feel free to email us at support@pixelmator.com and we'll do our best to help out.
  • PLEASE FIX! Dark mode isn’t fully dark

Why does dark mode still have white/gray menus? 💀I like the app for the most part otherwise. But please fix this eye-nuke so I can edit without light-blindness every time I need to edit layer styles, tap any of the icons in the top right and whatnot. The templates on the start page have thick white borders too that can be eye-burning.
TLDR; MAKE FULL DARK MODE PLEASE. NO MORE BRIGHT MENUS/ELEMENTS.

  • Memory and layer limitations and bugs.

I am a long time user of Pixelmator on both Mac and iPad. I am currently running the latest update of Pixelmator on an iPad Pro 6th generation 12 inch with iPad OS17. My work is very detailed and on many of my projects I often run out of layers. Combining layers as I work becomes tedious and makes future edits difficult. There are memory issues and a host of bugs. For example cropping no longer works. Saving modified images to photos has changed. File management and renaming files are awkward. Pixelmator is just not suitable for professional work even with a powerful iPad containing the M2 chip.

  • Had it Forever

My last review has changed after some discussion with the team. But a few things remain to be seen before this rating becomes 5 stars for me.

I found out that I can simply revert my file manager from recent projects to files and photos. This made me feel much better navigating thru my projects. So that bumped up my rating. I would still like to see a “less IOS User Interface”. When you tap a layer and get that pop-up window that you have to painstakingly tap thru to get to the tool you are looking for that happens to be at the very end in the list, that could be reworked. It really slows down the speed of a project. I would like to see a full list of the tools appear upon taping a layer. Kinda like a right click on a desktop. Another great thing to see would be some form of perspective tool like the one native to Apple’s photos app.

Again, as the title states, I have had this photo editing app forever. Its been awesome, and it’s an extremely powerful photo editing app. And there will always be room for improvement and opinions on what will make it better. But hopefully we can see some changes I’ve offered to them, and then I can return here singing their praises.

  • Best photo Editor!

Just what i was looking for, tried sooo many photo editing apps that saving a skin damages PNG Quality at lower pixels 128x128 untill i found this one. I make texture packs and minecraft skins. This is just the right photo editing app. Took me a few minutes to learn how to use but definitely happy with my purchase. Thank Youu Devs. =)

  • Had it forever

As the title states, I have had this photo editing app forever. It been awesome, and extremely powerful photo editing app. Recent updates have made past projects very difficult to access or manage however. The new file navigation and manager is just terrible in my opinion. Maybe I do t quite understand it, but given the option it should be reverted to an old method. I am not able to drag and drop (move) a file into a new folder unless I copy and then paste it in that folder. For some reason I can’t rename folders after I did once, specific files are hidden away and hardly as accessible as they were before the new dashboard look. 2 years ago Pixelmator receives 4.5 stars (they really need a perspective tool like in the native iPhone photos application), but today Pixelmator receives 3.5. Not as enjoyable as it was. And the crashing is terrible.

  • Great, when it’s not crashing

Have been using this for an age, I love Pixelmator Pro on my MacBook and Mac mini. On the iPad (Pro 11” 4th Gen) I’ll be working on an image, generally something simple with two layers and freehand line drawings or tracing underlying images when things start going wrong. Occasionally it’s a full blown app crash, other times when I’m pulling down control centre to lock orientation and return to the image I get a black screen and all my work is gone. I have wiped my iPad and started from scratch thinking it might be something iPadOS related but that has made no difference. It’s massively unstable at the moment to the point where I’m removing it from my workflows and using alternatives.

  • Has became very buggy

Used to be my go-to photo editing app, but as of recent there are tons of issues that are apparent in other reviews too. Will be working on a project, switch apps quickly, return and the app has decided to restart without doing any saves which it used to do (this is on an iPhone 14 PM, not an old slower phone btw.) In general has just seeming my became very counterintuitive, not sure if this is to push everyone into their new app and start paying subscriptions rather than buying your editing apps the old way 😐

Previous review: This app is brilliant, I use it more than any other photo app I’ve ever used and it is definitely worth the money. Would be great if we saw occasional new features being added (and a ‘what’s new’ pop up with every update). Would not mind if the features came out in packs that we could buy.
