  • Kicked me off and would not restore my purchase

I downloaded the app before they switched to a subscription service, so i was grandfathered in. But the app logged me out one day, and when I tried to log back in it conveniently “forgot” that I had purchases to restore. They ruined the app when they switched to subscription service
  • Keeps me focused

I love the details of this app. Not only does it track my writing time and allow me to keep up with the words written, it provides a significant amount of data that helps my analytical brain. And a huge thank you to the quick response of customer service when I had a question about the app. A must have for authors.

  • Expensive and lacking in functionality

    Pros:

    1. A word counter + timer
    2. Can add covers

    Cons:

    1. HUGELY expensive for the most basic of functionality: seriously bare bones
    2. Timer is 30 mins only; no option to choose differing lengths or even change the alarm to something in my phone
    3. The interface is buggy as heck and often just crashes
    4. The “daily tasks” is hardwired to American time with no ability to change it, meaning it doesn’t come up with the right day’s tasks—BUT the start date/end date are local! Meaning i get a “date passed” on projects when I’m trying to compensate for being on American dates otherwise
    5. It crashed for the last time and I can’t get it to work again. Have deleted.

In sum: app is barebones, lacklustre and absolutely not worth 48 bucks PER YEAR

Thanks for the review, we appreciate your honesty. The timer is configurable by tapping the settings icon on the top right when the timer is open. We’d love to help you with the other issues you were experiencing, if you could contact us at contact@wordkeeper.app, perhaps we can get them solved for you.
  • Incredibly Helpful!

I finished ten books with this app before I decided it was time to review it, and I can confidently say it’s become a necessary tool in my writing process.

I write four to six books a year, and this app helps keep me on track. I love that I can see my daily word count, as well as how much I need to write a day to finish on time (and that I can choose what days I want to write so I don’t fall behind on weekends when I take time off). I write in acts, and I like to keep my books in a certain word count range. The percentage tracker helps me see if I’m on track for the rise and fall of action in each quarter.

I also like that I can move books between active projects and inactive projects, as I like to play with new ideas in my between-book breaks before I actually schedule them in.

Lastly, this is a phenomenal app if you like to do sprints with author friends. You can set the timer for however long you want—I use this feature several times a week. It’s also great if you want to work in sessions. When the timer goes off, you know it’s time to stand up, walk around, and get a drink. I’m a high Focus (CliftonStrengths), and this is a huge help because I have a tendency to sit for too long when I’m working.

Overall, it’s just a really helpful app, especially if you’re a full-time author.

  • Great but expensive

This app looks amazing and I’ve been looking for this for a while now. But it should be at most a one time paiement. A subscription system seems unjustifiable as it requires no server maintenance, personalized trainer and program, or anything that could explain 40$ yearly. I’d love to use this, but I’m not that rich.

Thanks for the review! We appreciate you taking the time to tell us how you feel and understand why it may feel expensive to you. We like to be transparent, so let us explain why it costs what it does. We do have server costs. Disk space when using your own book covers, data being saved in the cloud and the system being set up so that we can easily expand and make it available to other platforms are the reason behind that, which brings us to the next point. Developers, designers, architects, project managers and user experience experts all need to be paid so we can continue to update and release new features. We want the people who work on our app to provide good, solid, quality work and that costs money. We understand that it may seem like a simple app that shouldn’t be that hard to do and that’s exactly how it should feel. That is the hard work that those people mentioned above got paid to make it feel and look that way, but believe me, there is a monster machine behind the pretty app calculating stats, analyzing, and sending you notifications, all in order to provide the data for you need and want to see. I hope that helps explain a little bit why it costs what it does. If you have any more questions or feedback we’d love to hear it, just send us a mail to contact@wordkeeper.app. 😊
  • The best I’ve found so far, but could see some easy improvements

I’ve only been using the app for a couple days now but so far I like it! I found Word Keeper while searching for an app that offered writing sprints. It wasn’t ideally what I was looking for but I honestly don’t think it exists at this point so if you’re looking for an app to design...I have many thoughts.

More about word Keeper - I like the display, and the stats view, the daily goal tracker, etc. I wish you could create a project without giving it a goal word count. I attempted this initially and set the goal word count to 0 but then, of course, continued to get further away from the goal according to all the stats, which is just disappointing to look at. So I set an arbitrary word goal knowing it would have no bearing on when I was actually finished with the project or not.

I also noticed that there is an alarm sound setting that appears to be editable, but then isn’t, and that there is an ambient noise setting that is also not usuable....these features would be nice! As it is the alarm for the timer makes no sound at all when it goes off, just gives a little on screen alert.

I also think it would be nice to be able to change the colors of the display, obviously nothing to do with functionality but would be a nice extra. Lastly, it’s not super intuitive to use, but is easy to get the hang of.

I also like that it allows you to choose your own image for the cover of each project. It would be nice if you could choose to also delete certain graphs from the display that you don’t care about. Like I personally don’t care how much time I spend on writing vs editing vs outlining.

All in all I like the app and what it’s aiming for, it appears to be the best of what’s available, but I wish it was a lot more customizable.

  • Good

    Good
  • Used to love this app.

Had it for 3 years on my previous phone. New phone, download it along with other apps I have used before, only to find it now wants to charge me. I hit restore purchases as I believe I had paid a one off fee when I first got it.

    Nada. Nothing.
    More than a bit POd.
  • Great Writing Tool

Use it to keep track of my daily writing goals
  • I love this app but...

I love this app but my word count is currently 8391. It’s telling me however that my WC is 10,089 and that I need to write 5,000 words to reach my deadline but that’s incorrect. There’s no point in me having the app if it’s not going to give me an accurate number. I loved it when it when the numbers were right but this isn’t it.
