  • Can be very convenient but needs improvement

Sometimes the app is great and easy to use. Other times, you’re in a dead zone with hardly any bikes around, and the one you see on the map is NOWHERE to be found in real life. I don’t get why this happens but it’s incredibly frustrating especially when you have somewhere to be.

Also, not all donkey bikes are created equal, and some of these old rickety ones need to just be taken off the streets.

  • Great service!

The bikes are good, and the service is great! Very easy to use with many bikes available in Aarhus. We had an issue with a bike and reached out to customer service. They quickly responded late at night and were able to make the necessary changes as to not impact our use at all!
  • Never again

Tried for the first time using a free 45’ promo in Copenhagen. Easy enough to join and unlock. Tried ending before 40’ and suddenly ‘connection problems’, would not lock or end. 10’ later tried to resolve thru chat and after providing all info chat was suddenly ended. Tried emailing, no resolution. The next day (and after having left the country) received text asking whether I was still using. No I am not as I informed by text and email. Ended with a +$29 charge to my credit card. Deleted the app and never using again.

  • Convenient and great customer service

Im really surprised by the negative reviews. I had a great experience. I tried Donkey bikes in Geneva and the app was so easy to use. Bikes were available in many locations and were all good quality. I had a question about my payment method and customer service replied promptly and resolved my issue.

  • Overcharged, Poor Service, Poor Communication

I chose the 24 hour bike rental option. I rode the bike a little bit, then dropped it off and locked it at an official drop off location. It was not communicated to me that the rental would continue to be charged every 24 hours until I specifically hit the “end rental” button. I thought since I chose the 24 hour rental, the rental would end after 24 hours. But I just got a notification that they have charged me for 4 days and counting.

Seems predatory to continue to charge rental fees by automatically renewing the rental without communicating the process by which someone must officially end it.

Also now to end the rental, the app wants me to show where the bike is on a map, even though I’m 1000km away in a different city. The bike should be at the drop off location where I last dropped it off and locked it. Why do I need to comb through a map to guess where that was now, days later? Do you not have that information on your end?

I tried communicating through the chat feature on the app, but no response. Also tried calling, but no response.

  • Bugs & Outages

The pricing is great but it is frustrating when you pay for a month of access and end up with flaky service. I used this app for a month and ran into two bugs with locking, several bikes with issues, and worst of all the whole app went down twice.

It is frustrating when the app stops working for an hour and you end up having to pay for a Lime scooter to get back home.

We ended up wishing we’d used the other monthly bike rental service with the blue front tire. Do better Donkey.

  • Won’t verify account

The app won’t confirm my account because it requires phone number verification and won’t deliver a text to my phone nor my friend s phone. No other way to verify, very poor app design.
  • Such a bad service

The customer support has no idea what they are doing. You are forced to use them in Barcalona because there is no other option
  • Come to LA!

This is such a smart way of renting bikes. We absolutely loved it! Customer support was so kind when i made a mistake with payment. Highly recommend this if you’re traveling in Copenhagen!! 😍
  • All bikes worked (Barcelona)

Very convenient and they allow PayPal as payment and passport as ID (others require a local ID). I rented around 10 bikes over my one week stay in Barcelona and had no issues with any of them. The stations placement is good, but could have more options. There were many public bike racks near my hotel and conference venue, but I had to walk a block to park my bike because the nearby racks were not stations.
