  • App won’t start

The app worked well a year ago. My iPhone can’t even start to app now. Useless!
  • Awesome service, better customer support

I used DB in Munich a few days and it was cheap and efficient. I did run into some complications when I parked the bike incorrectly before I left but the DB support team got everything resolved quickly and painlessly:) thanks, I will be using again
  • Took 40 minutes to drop off bikes

I used this app in Berlin and when we began the app actually seemed to work well well. We got the bikes because they were slightly cheaper than the others. Once we actually began to bike, we realized that the app was very poorly designed and near impossible to use. The locking function has to be used several times before actually working.

Somehow, getting rid of the bikes was even worse than locking them. It took us over half an hour to get rid of four bikes, and this was compounded because some of the bikes had to be taken to a separate drop off site. The app also tried directing me to a singular drop off site (3 miles away) instead of the dozens directly around. I tried this on several phones, and even reinstalling the app but the problem continued. Very faulty app and not worth saying .5 euros over a day. Just use jump bikes.

    Developer Response

Hey Steven, Thanks for the feedback, we'd like to have a look at the issue and fix the problem. It would be terrific if you could send us an email at support@donkeyrepublic.com then we can investigate and send you the necessary refunds. Sometimes bluetooth and GPS issues between the phone and the lock can affect the app, we're sorry that you experienced these issues and we will do our best to address them as quickly as possible. Thanks.
  • Great for tourists

As a tourist, it was so nice to be able to explore the city for 3 days easily while also getting some exercise. Easy to use and no problems!
  • Not ready for actual use. Needs MUCH more work.

Basically an app still in glitchy beta mode presenting as a finished product. This is hugely inconvenient for the people trying to plan transportation around it.

If you are traveling do not waste your time and data.

As others have said it’s a great idea but the product isn’t market ready in its current state.

  • Leonard

It was a pretty bad experience
I took a bike at St Michel , Paris and tried to lock within my hotel But get message, that bike is locked
Improperly. I tried to unlock, but Donkey’s
website get frozen. I tried to phone Austria, USA,
France, but no live person was available
Suddenly after 50 minutes website get unlocked
and I immediately return the bike

  • Bikes hard to find

We spent 30+ minutes walking around looking for bikes, they were not in the places they were showing up on the app. Even then it was still difficult to find the bikes as they had not markings stating “donkey republic.”
  • Great cruising

Had a great experience using the bike and the app. I did have an occasional shift issue with a first bike, but was able to report the issue and switch for a new bike easily. Bikes are very nice and ride beautifully. App was easy to use. I checked my bike in and out more than a dozen times over almost 5 days. Didn’t want to part with it, but holiday was over!

Hey, thanks for your lovely feedback, it's terrific to hear that everything was enjoyable and you had a great time with the bikes. Cheers.
  • Returning without cellular connection is broken

If you are not near the bike because you need WiFi, the app will not allow you to end the rental because it cannot talk to the lock.

If you are near the bike to validate the lock, the app complains it cannot end the rental because there is no internet.
  • Pretty nice piece of public infrastructure.

A little bit of trouble logging in, after not using for a few months, but overall the app is easy to use, and the bikes are basically everywhere.
