So superior
A couple of years ago I must have been experiencing male menopause because after getting fed up with Macquarie Bank’s app I went on the hunt for an alternative. I tried many digital banks and their apps and have concluded that Macquarie Banks app is superior by far. Although Macquarie Bank’s communications still need improvement, especially regarding feedback, complaints and their road map of planned features and modifications. But I’m sure it’s a work in progress. (Two years ago I could not have imagined I’d believe that.)
I am also pleased to add that Macquarie’s bank operations are more personal, compassionate and more responsive than any bank I’ve ever used. They reverse/reimburse all ATM usage charges, and cover account fund shortfalls allowing you to move funds.

Poor Customer Service
The things that are positive about Macquarie are unfortunately outweighed by poor/non-existent customer service. Macquarie routinely sends me surveys requesting feedback however I have now stopped responding as there is no indication they take customer feedback on board. I think they are just ticking boxes with their surveys. As just one example, like many other reviewers I would like to see Macquarie include running balances in customers’ transaction history. Look at all the reviews here - has Macquarie responded to a single one? It’s very poor form for such a profitable banking behemoth to treat customers with total indifference.

Powerful app
When I set up scheduled transfers I occasionally have the need to update them. Whilst updating or changing a dollar amount is easy and simple, I’m frustrated this is not the case if want to change who I’m paying. This app requires I delete the payment then create a new one. It’s silly because I have to write what I’m doing down in between. Please create the ability to update payers in the schedule payment feature

In app search DOESN’T work!!! Fix it.
I’ve used this app now for over six months and I’m shocked at how slow the MACQ dev team are to spot there own errors and fix basic functionality.
BASIC search functionality is BROKEN.
Partial word searching fails.
Example (Latest app. Latest IOS. iPhone12)
“Kmar” returns zero results.
“Kmart” returns a full fancy breakdown of all transactions made at Kmart.
Impact:
This means that ANY transaction that appears on your account, that you don’t know EXACTLY how it is written, is unsearchable to you!
I.e. a transaction could include an underscore or have zero spaces between brand name and location = unsearchable. On an iPhone12 latest IOS! Latest MACQ app. Ridiculous!
But what really ticks me off - someone at MacQ (directly under the search field) has had the $alls to claim the following;
…“Search transactions naturally. Talk to us like a human or your personal banking assistant”…
Haven’t been able to get it to work even once. 🤦♂️
If your coding won’t return ‘Kmart’ from the input ‘Kmar’ … I’d say you’re dancing in false and misleading marketing territory there.

Love Macquarie!
Great bank, great app! Perfect for small business owners like myself. My finances are always s mess because I’m too busy running multiple businesses to do anything as mundane as tidy my desk let alone attend to bookkeeping! I loathe and detest going through bank statements! Or at least I used to. Now it’s a breeze. It helps that the graphic design is so beautiful and fonts are easy to read and easy on the eye. There are no horrid jarring colours ( not mentioning anyone, NAB!)
Never thought I could love a bank but I love Macquarie! Kisses ;)

Really useful and easy to use
The app is really easy to use and understand. Really like that I can lock my card temporarily and notify when I am going to use the card overseas through the app instead of calling to notify when going off to a trip. Two things I would recommend that should be added into the app that would make it even better
1. Include timestamps on what time a transaction occurs for example if you get paid into your transaction account
2. the ability to lock using tap and pay using the physical card as some people may not be comfortable using tap and pay using the physical card due to security reasons and privacy reasons.
If you add these two things into the app this would improve the overall experience and make the app more useful in managing the accounts

Terrible security
The app has a single fail-point of security. You are required to set up a pin to use the app. The pin has a maximum length of 4 numbers. If this pin is guessed you get entire access to your accounts. Password can be changed without requiring to enter old password first. Pin can be changed by entering current pin. The Authenticator is supposed to add an additional layer that you can set it too require authentication app approval on each login. But it just doesn't work. I’ve logged in and out twice without it asking to verify with Authenticator app. Huge dealbreaker, insane oversight. There is no option to require password on login. Highly disappointed.

Silly silly silly
I have been using the app for couple of years now. I updated it through the App Store. It made me to set up everything from the scratch. This is what happens when you have incompetent people in charge if a bank’s tech. Awaiting to be hacked perhaps.
Could you add these features?
This banking app is amazing, but there is one thing that I wish you could add, which is the time of the transaction. At the moment, you can only see it when you buy something, but you cannot see it when you transfer to someone else or when you are getting paid. If you can add the time to the rest of the transaction, it would be really appreciated. And also, can you please fix the date of the transaction and put in the date of the transaction?

Slippery Slope - You’re not my moral compass
As a new customer I was loving banking with Macquarie for the last 4 weeks. The only real qualm I had was not being able to see my debit card numbers in the app (seems like a very basic function these days). That was until I wanted to have a lazy Saturday afternoon punt on the horses. I pull out my card to add it to my Sportsbet account (because I can’t see it in the app unfortunately) only to find out Macquarie doesn’t allow that. What’s that you say? A bank dictating where I can and can’t spend my own money? That’s a very slippery slope to start on. I note Macquarie lets me use my card at Maccas (even though I’m overweight) they let me shop at Dan Murphy’s and I had no troubles buying a round of drinks at the local pub. I don’t smoke but I’m willing to bet (pun intended) that I can walk into Smokemart and load up on a few packs of lung killers. But $10 on the horsies? No deal.
So with that, I’m gone!
I will spend MY money where I choose. If I want moral guidance I’ll seek that elsewhere. Thanks for the offer though!
