  • Immersive application

Although I’ve taken voice lessons, violin, and guitar, Eventually taking music theory 1, theory 2, and harmony in college, I never knew how to apply those concepts and they eventually got lost. I kept playing guitar and singing in bands but was discouraged that I couldn’t get past my ceiling.
This app is perfect because it does what it claims to. It doesn’t stop at just content but provides fun, fresh ways to apply that content, which is the path mastery. Understanding AND application.
I’m actually excited to write songs again and this app is greatly simplifying and speeding that process along.

  • Awesome For Songwriters

Worth the 10 dollars all the way! This app is organized and designed for you to learn quickly. Perfect for my needs!
  • Great way to explore 🎼theory

Comprehensive instructions. Challenging questions. Changing and engaging lessons. Ways to keep track of your progress. What’s not to love???…
  • Class

Super easy way to learn and the developer is very responsive to questions
  • Wow!

I don't usually write reviews, but this app blew me away. Well made, clear courses, and great exercises. I am hoping that Alex will add more courses in the future!
  • Disappointing

After reading so many great reviews I decided to pay for this. I thought there would be resources or materials for music theory. How wrong I was. The only resources are animated videos, which is a very poor format for reference. Everything else is gamified exercises. It may get better and have more info in later ‘levels’ but I wanted and expected something totally different. May work for some but this doesn’t support my learning at all.

    Developer Response

Hey Jake, you're right that Waay isn't trying to be a reference app. There are lots of other tools for that (e.g., check out WaayFinder). Instead, Waay actively *teaches* music theory with short video lessons and interactive exercises—and it's all about making it practical. Whether you're in the middle of playing a guitar solo or in the middle of writing a new chord progression, the best place for music theory knowledge to live is in your head—ready for you to access instantaneously—not at arm's length in some app. Just like learning any other language, music theory truly comes alive when you gain *fluency*. That's what Waay is all about. In any case, that's the approach that works for so many of Waay's users, and it may work for you too. In any case, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. I'm at alex[at]tenkettles[dot]com. -Alex
  • Amazingly Clear

How does this app not have more attention?? This was the only app on the App Store I could find that was able to clearly go over understanding the basics of music theory (and not simply how to read sheet music). And especially handily, it has a nice focus on being able to put together your own music. Very intuitive to use and makes everything seem simple. Extra nice that it only asks for a smallish one time cost and doesn’t ask for ridiculous monthly sums.
Always struggled to understand music theory, and now these concepts seem obvious. Can’t recommend enough.

  • Efficient, answered my gaps in knowledge

Very clear and engaging since it’s so efficient in teaching what matters. Really worth it.
  • Music theory - made simple

For me, it is getting back to the basics that is important, as I find as I advance I keep asking simple questions like in a G major Scale why is the C chord called the 4th Chord. Then I know I got to go back to basics…..
  • Amazing

My first 30mins with Waay was great. Music theory explained in a simple, practical way. Video is on point and exercise very helpful. Worth it!
