  • Really recommend

This app is amazing for beginners, I’ve often found myself lost trying to learn a language but none of the apps I’ve tried either arnt good or don’t even have the language I want to learn. This app actually gets you to practice speaking and typing with bots!
  • Fabulous learning app, Mondly!

I’m learning Afrikaans so I am able to communicate with my family, majority if jot all speaking Afrikaans. I was 4 when I left my country so I was never told how to speak it (thank you parents for not teaching me…). But Mondly, it is an amazing app. I’m learning sentences in a matter of days.
  • For Tagalog/Filipino

I upgraded to the paid version today and I’d like a refund. The app doesn’t properly explain why certain words need to be there and sometimes the audio doesn’t even match the words. There are places where it will have one word and say a whole sentence. There are others where it reads a different word. With the lack of explanation for everything, I’m unable to tell which words are correct or why I’m supposed to be saying certain words. I’m also not a fan of how the app doesn’t really work previous words into the new lessons. It seems like you either need to make your own flash cards or go through and repeat the same set of phrases in the same order. Another frustrating situation I’ve run into is when you make too many mistakes on the lesson (which, again, there is no guide or notes prior to the lessons) it doesn’t tell you the correct answer for the final question you’ve made a mistake on. Even if it did, I’m not sure it would stick with you long enough to make it back to that point.

I don’t feel like it is helping you to become fluent, but rather just memorizing phrases. The free lesson made me feel hopeful for the program, but the following lessons leave a lot to be desired. For a company that has so much money from selling education material, this program sure is a let down.

Hello, Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that you are not fully satisfied with your Mondly experience. In terms of our teaching method, we combine the introduction of new words with reinforcing previously learned ones. Our approach focuses on inductive reasoning, enabling learners to grasp language structures through practical examples. Regarding the answer to the final tasks, we've saved your feedback and we'll make sure to consider it for future updates. As for the mismatches you've noted, please share a few examples along with the lesson and category where they occur at ios@mondly.com. We'd like to check them on our end. Best regards, Ioana, Mondly Languages
  • Awesome app.

I only know very very little Croatian but this is helping immensely. I think the repetition is great to get in in your head. Grammar and endings are still a struggle but I am not really concentrating on that at the moment…just trying to get the feel for words. I think that I can understand conversationsa little better already and new phrases and words are starting to stick. Very happy and easy to follow.

  • Better Than Duolingo

Even using just the free tier, learning languages with Mondly is much better than with that infamous owl app. Mondly teaches you practical vocabulary applicable to everyday social situations. It goes beyond mere translation of contrived sentences by giving you the opportunity to listen to and participate in short, meaningful conversational dialogues using your own voice.

I am studying Finnish with Mondly but have studied some of the language with books and other apps. I find the learning experience with Mondly very satisfying and look forward to each lesson. Due to the very complex nature of Finnish grammar, the app doesn’t so far seem to cover any topics related to important aspects such as vowel harmony, consonant gradation, grammatical cases, etc. My previous work in the language has helped me to recognize certain case endings of words in the various exercises in each language. Perhaps these topics will be addressed in later sections of the course. If not, no worries since I will continue studying Finnish grammar in the books I already own. No textbook can provide the interactive experience that an app like Mondly provides, however. So for that alone it’s worth the investment. Minä tykkään tästä ihanasta sovellusta! Paljon kiitos!

  • Best app for Persian learning in my experience

Mondly is *by far* the best app I've used for learning Persian.

There doesn't seem much of a market for English speakers to learn Persian so I'm glad that Mondly has taken this on, and understand that there are costs required to create all the lessons, so I feel the fee charged is reasonable.

Having said that, I observe the following:

    (a) It relentlessly reminded me to give it a rating. I can't comfortably give it 5 stars after such nagging.

    (b) It doesn't teach spoken Persian, i.e. the informal sort that everyone uses. Perhaps that's a bit harsh, as some of the examples every now and then are informal/spoken. I can see why they do it, as I guess they want people to know the written way before they can start embarking on the spoken shortcuts that are part of conversational Persian.

    (c) A recent update has reduced the font sizes, making it much harder to read on a smartphone screen.

    (d) I have concerns about my account being charged at renewal, as I don't generally opt for auto-renew. I think I've managed to sort this in my phone's settings. Let's see!

  • Week 5 Of Mondly App Use.

I have found the Mondly app very useful and I have learned a great deal of Spanish words and phrases(300+). However I did find that a specific phrase ; ¿Ves aquella montaña? Translated (Mondly). Do you see that mountain? Although when I checked out the Spanish word for "that" it's pronounced Esa. So I entered in Google Translate English version of "Do You see that mountain?" Google translate returned ¿ves esa montaña? So I'm not sure if ¿Ves aquella montaña? Is the correct way of asking in Spanish "Do you see that mountain? Also the app has crashed consistently all day today. Whenever I click on statistics inside the app it freezes and the app cannot be closed.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your feedback here. Please rest assured that we work only with native professionals for each language we offer. Referring to your example, "aquella" was used correctly, as it creates a sense of distance between the speaker and the mountain. I hope this explanation clarifies the matter. As for the crashing issue, please send us an email with the model and OS version of your mobile device at ios@mondly.com and reference this review. We'll get back to you as soon as possible. Looking forward to hearing from you, Ioana, Mondly Languages
  • American learning French

A fairly clear structure with good visuals and clear pronunciations. My goal is to read books in French, and this app seems more geared to travelers or business people visiting a French speaking country. I also feel it is more geared toward British English than to American English even though I specified American when I signed up. They use words like biscuit for cookie, holiday for vacation, etc. which gets a little confusing in some of the modules. Is a “cooker” a stove? Most Americans would never use the word cooker. And Americans spell color without the letter u. I have been using this app for three years and three months, and although they have added modules, i feel there is not enough explanation of verb tenses or conjugations. Some of the translations are too loose. It would be easier if they better explained them; for example an American would say “I need ___” whereas in French they say “I have need of ___”. That much I learned in high school, but it was not explained in the app. Small things like that can be very helpful. Colloquialisms (or what I take to be colloquial) are not explained at all. For example, the word cour translates as court, but the app uses it interchangeably with garden, (jardin) which is confusing. Users need to intuit a bit.

  • Great except for the small letters

It’s a great app, the only downside is when you are required to spell a word, and the word is long, the letters get unbearably small that they’re not even readable. Hence the four stars.
  • Latest update is awful!

Was a great app I used daily for over 2 years. Updated this morning and it now crashes and can’t complete my daily lesson. Wish I could cancel my subscription but locked in for a year. Shocking!
