  • Close, but missing basic functionality

Purchased some Reolink PoE cameras to try out because I needed 24/7 recording due to a bad neighbor. Hardware is great but the whole thing is brought down by this app.

    1) I click a notification and I’m taken to live view, up to 2 minutes after the notification. That’s useless. I should be taken to the event recording. I’m told this used to function correctly but was changed for some unknown reason. We should be given an option as to what we want to be taken to.

    2) There’s no way to see a consolidated, chronological list of events from all cameras in one place like other manufacturers offer. There’s also no push notification event history in the app anywhere. So you’re either bound by clicking each and every notification you receive… or going CAMERA BY CAMERA in the app looking at history that way. That may be fine if you gave a couple of cameras but if you have your house surrounded who’s actually gonna do that?

There are other issues but these are the most glaring. For what the app does, it functions well. But the missing event list in of itself is probably going to be enough to force me to send the entire order back and look into alternatives.

    Really disappointing.

  • What’s with all the bad reviews?

This app works exactly how it’s advertised, for me. I have NVR cameras at my home and cloud cameras at my vacation home and the app threads them together into the app. Maybe their competitors are leaving the bad reviews? I will tell you I haven’t updated any firmware so maybe that’s helpful for me. I don’t have AI, only simple motion detection and that’s a little flaky so I’ve turned down the sensitivity and painted the active areas so I don’t get too many notifications. Don’t be afraid of this app. It works.

  • False Alarm Notifications

Well is now getting warm for start of summer, the IR on the camera draws many bugs which trip the motion. The support info on the website says this is unavoidable due to frame comparison between frames. The fix they say is adjust sensitivity, they know this doesn’t work because they say it’s unavoidable with their product. At least give us an option to delay/pause the notifications for 2,4,6,8,12 hours or something. It also didn’t pick up my 2500hd truck coming up the driveway, the motion is very hit or miss. It has missed delivery trucks and guest also. I was so excited when this first went up but the more time I spend with this product the more short comings are revealed.

  • Big cons

I do like the cameras and the app is ok but sometimes with a stable connection it just, doesn’t work. Like, oopsies try again, hope the situation isn't serious or anything. Also, the schedule function is goofy. It’s impossible to set a say, 6pm to 6am schedule. You’re limited to just what you can scroll starting from 12 am to 12 pm and tbh From what I’ve seen I don’t think that even works. The sensitivity isn’t very consistent either. Sometimes set to the same level, the cameras hardly record and some days for no reason at all they record every few minutes. Just a bunch of blank videos. Anything under 30 does nothing either. You can jump up and down directly in front of the camera and nothing happens.

  • Great Cameras, but app is iffy.

Have been using 7 Reolink Lumus cameras and an 8ch NVR for exactly a year now without any issues. 24/7 recording with motion detection as an aid is far better than just motion detection alone. Yes, the cameras do have false positives, it’s a PIR sensor. Motion detection accuracy can be greatly increased by setting up the time-based Motion Sensitivity and adjusting the Motion Zones. All of this works great, the app however can be a bit annoying. The main problem is recently whenever I get a motion alert, the camera that the app goes to is the wrong camera. Sometimes even the app gets confused and shows the wrong snapshot for the wrong camera, and sometimes it just gets it wrong altogether and clicking on “Front Yard” might take you to “Back Door” for no reason. If the people behind this app would put more effort into its functionality than constantly changing the design for no reason, we might be in good shape. Altogether, this is still one of the best apps that a “cheap” camera system has, and it doesn’t require internet to work, just to be on the local network, which you can’t say about pretty much any other camera app. Overall, the app does it job and doesn’t hurt my recommendation for Reolink cameras, but it needs to be sorted out.

  • Fairly good app but wish they would listen to feedback

This app is good but could be better. I have asked for one feature and have heard no response. The push notifications are fairly good for false alarms but when they are it is normally snow flying or wind. These alerts would be easy to take care of to some extent by allowing the user to pause alerts for a set amount of time. This way when snowing or someone moving about my property I could select pause from the app and pick from a list of time to pause. That way I won’t have to disable alarms and forget to turn them back on. Would be such a nice feature as you can’t stop false alarms but they come in batches like a snow event and you can’t let it continue as it will send a alert every few seconds and drives you nuts. Please consider adding a ability of some nature to just pause push alerts for a period of time. Thanks

  • Unreliable when you need it the most

Despite having an excellent Wi-Fi signal the app routinely fails to load the cameras. It can take five minutes before you can actually get a picture. It seems to be at random times… But more often than not it’s when you really want to see what’s going on right now. Alerts are hit or miss. I run a Netgear Orbi mesh Wi-Fi system and have no problem getting a signal to live broadcast twice the distance from where the cameras are to my routers. I just think the software and hardware are lackluster. The software also has some stupid design flaws… For example when you’re viewing a camera and you want to back out of it if it gets a motion detection it puts a bar across the top to notify you of that motion but you can’t exit out of the current camera you’re viewing because the bar is blocking the close button. Not a very smart design. It also constantly pesters you to switch between Wi-Fi and using your mobile data which also prevents you from being able to exit out of your current camera your viewing. This has been a problem for at least a year.

  • Great update (version 4.29.0)

Love the update! The home screen is much less confusing now! Also love the pinch function to view multiple cameras! I’ve used many different CCTV apps and this one is the best. I’ve been using another app for years but then they took away the ability to adjust alarms remotely which made it useless. Been going through dozens of apps to try to get that functionality back. Finally stumbled upon Reolink. Been almost a year with this and couldn’t be happier! The POE system is great - so much better than dealing with Coax, baluns and annoying ground loops that keep coming back. Video quality has been great. Have a mix of wired and wireless and everything runs so smooth. The only feature I wish this app had would be video scrubbing when playing back videos (like in the Ring app). Other than that everything is perfect for my needs. This company really pays great attention to detail. Thank you for all the hard work.

  • It’s decent, when it works

My Reolink cam says it has full service, as does my cell. Yet when I try it access the camera feed it says failed to connect about 4 times out of 5. It really lags and I get a ton of false notifications.

I’m in a very rural area a couple miles down a dirt road, very few people come out here yet we get squatters and junkies looking to park their cars. The thought of being able to set a camper up on the far end of our property so we see people enter was enticing. Wish it worked better.

It’s facing a gravel road and empty field. Sometimes cows get out or the dogs venture out there.

There’s no trees or waving objects for a hundred yards or so in front of the camera yet I had to turn off the PIR today as it triggers with nothing in front of so much the battery is low after a couple days.

Had to turn video quality down and PIR sensitivity down to 60% and it still triggerd about 5 times an hours. My phone blows up all day for me to see an empty field.

Not happy with the product really.

  • A couple more features and it would be better than ring

I have 2 of the Reolink go pts and I’ve had them for about a month. Before this I had ring cameras for about 4 years. There are a couple of features that these are really missing. Most of the time it only catches the back half of a car that drives by. I have the camera at eye level pointed directly down the driveway hoping to catch license plates of cars, however the motion trigger is too slow so it usually only catches the back half of the car. Either improve the motion trigger or record 1-2 seconds before the motion trigger so that way people can actually see what triggered the motion. In addition if I’m notified of motion it would be nice to see a snapshot of what caused the trigger without needing to go back and view the footage. If these 2 features were implemented I would recommend 5 stars and buy a couple more cameras.
