New App No Better than Previous IComm

Keep having to re-enter water heater purchased in 2022.

Junk. waste time

Forgets your hot water heater every time and you need the serial number, model number etc to reset the app. Waste of your time.

Now i just turn the breaker off when i go on vacation.

Does not work, dead on arrival

Your app is trash

I downloaded this app and the ICOMM app because the A.O. Smith one has a sunset date. I registered my water heater and it does not show up in my dashboard which is nonexistent. I tried to add it again and it says it is already registered, but again still cannot see a dashboard. A.O. Smith usually makes a good hot water heater… their app on the other hand is trash. Spend the extra money and hire a decent app developer and programmer to keep your customers happy. Next water heater will be a Rheem since that’s what my dad had installed and their app actually works and works well.

Garbage, literally does not work at all. Spending extra for the wifi was a ripoff.

Garbage

The app deletes all your saved devices every so often so you have to redo the whole process. Seriously embarrassing app.

A real pain

EVERY TIME we go on vacation and want to put the hot water heater on vacation mode we have to sign in and add our hot water heater like it was never registered. That means going down in the basement, standing on my head to scan the bar code or add the serial number and adding the date it was purchased (who remembers that). It’s easier just to leave it like it is which defeats the purpose.

Trash

App constantly loses your session, then forgets any devices you have registered.

pathetic

forgets hot water heater regularly for no apparent reason

Wont connect

What a waste of time! I registered the water heater with aosmith. When i try to input the serial number of the water heater into either the icomm app or the aosmith app, both of them say “unknown heater” well my receipt and the product registration says its known. This is shameful and the coders need to be fired and kicked out of the industry. I am probably lucky considering how bad all reviews are. How can you achieve 1 star (thats the minimum) reviews and be proud of your product? Are you even a serious business? You would have done better work if you just didnt bother.

Joke of an app

I would disconnect the 800 number too considering how lousy of an app this is. Every once in a while for kicks I try to register my new hot water heater and it consistently fails every time. If you’re buying a hot water heater based on its ability to be monitored online.. skip AO Smith.

Unfortunate “app”

I am so glad that we test apps prior to buying products (ones that will let us test them at least) because we have found some awful apps out there. This is not an exception. In fact, it reminded us of WHY we test the apps first. The app is featureless, not “streamlined” and outdated- if you think 1996 AOL chat room you’ll be getting close.

With testing the app we had to do some digging and learned that there is no alert for water leaks, only alert “logging,” so you have to open and look at the app to see if there has been a leak. This is not helpful. I would like to know if 50gal+ of water just dumped all over my basement before the water shut-off stopped incoming flow. This makes a third-party leak detector necessary.

Additionally, we keep getting an error saying their network is experiencing issues and that it’s in their end- at least they’re honest about that part.

Rheem is our choice after comparing functionality, because, well, their app… functions.

Not Reliable

Installed water heater with an AO Smith app that is worthless. I have re-entered the system settings multiple times bc it fails to connect to the heater. This is a vacation property that doesn’t need hot water every day. That said it is a worthless app.

Has never worked

Don’t know how they can sell water heaters that are supposed to be blue tooth enabled when the app never works. Should not have spent the extra money. 🙄

Forgets Heater

App layout is decent but constantly forgets the heater. Have to add it back multiple times. I like the features but really dislike the issues with losing the heater and speed of changing modes.

Water Heater

Every time the app updates… I have to start all over again from re-register new account information… This the worst app ever.

It doesn’t work at all

Constantly logs me out “session expired” when i try to set up a heater (any where from 10 seconds to a minute) Chooses the long distance camera on my phone so i can’t scan the QR code. It’s either too far away or blurry. The times I’ve managed to stay logged in long enough to add the heater, it will randomly drop all my configuration info after a few weeks and I have to try all over again. Don’t even try. This app is a waste of time.

Keeps loosing heater info

Quite a few times when I I went into the app, my hot water heater is disconnected and I have to go through the whole process of adding it and reconnecting using the QR code again. Happened a handful of times over the last year.

Not ready for prime time

Recently went into vacation mode when my air Bnb guests tried to shower. Has gone offline requiring me to re-enter all data. Way too buggy. If you use this app save time by keeping the serial number somewhere handy- you’ll need it when it goes offline and forgets everything.

Incompetent

There are too many problems with this app to even list, but perhaps the biggest is that it every so often, it randomly resets and you have to re-add every A.O. Smith water heater you have. Good luck calling their customer service team for help. Between the app, the highly failure prone water heater itself, and incompetent customer service, I’ll never ever buy an A.O. Smith product again.
