Fully Patched iPhone 12 Unsupported Device
I have the newest iOS version for my iPhone 12 which meets the specs for this app. However, it just says “unsupported device” which I try and load the app. SMH
Slow
First try , two hours , no code sent . Closed out phone, try again, code came right through, but hour to verify email. Third try, finally worked
Poor photo process
The photo ID through Live Photo is very painful. Had to redo it manually many times.

The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The app was very responsive and took very little time to complete. I look forward to a visit to Australia.
Passport scan
To scan the passport was a nightmare for 2 reasons 1) because of the glare which is hard to avoid given the plastic surface of passports and 2) holding the passport still in the right place. The whole thing took more than 1 hour!!!
Application gives error device not supported
My IPhone 16 Pro Max is running latest iOS 26.5.2 but I get this error,

I was apprehensive about going through the ETA application process as there is usually technical language that I do not understand but this was so clear and easy. Well done Australia!

I have tried to download this several times. It says my device is not supported. My friend said take off the phone cover and it will work. Nope. Very frustrating. I have an I phone 15. Can’t figure out why it won’t work.

iPhone15で2時半ほど場所も照明も変えて試しましたが反応は全くない上にエラーの連発。何がエラーなのかも教えてくれず、問い合わせしても出てくるのは電話か使い物にならないAIのみ。英語が話せない人には本当に無理です。日本語対応もなし。
パスポートのチップを永遠に読み取ってくれず、電話しても応答もなし。日本語対応もなし。パスポートや携帯の問題かと思い別のアプリで検証するも双方に問題話。有り得ません。せっかく旅行を楽しみにしていたのに全てが台無しになりました。二度とオーストラリアには行きたくないとこれのせいで思わされましたね。
I spent over two and a half hours trying in different locations and under different lighting conditions on my iPhone 15, but nothing worked. The app kept throwing errors without ever explaining what the problem was. When I tried to get help, the only options were a phone line or a useless AI chatbot. If you don’t speak English, you’re basically out of luck. There is no Japanese support at all.
The app simply refuses to read my passport’s NFC chip, no matter how many times I try. I even tested both my passport and my phone with another NFC app, and both worked perfectly, so neither is the problem. This is completely unacceptable.
I had been looking forward to my trip, but this app completely ruined the experience. Thanks to this, I honestly don’t even want to visit Australia anymore.

Worst app experience ever built
I don’t know who designed this app or the security features, but the Aussie govt would do well to learn from the consumer financial services industry that has strict security controls. The facial recognition rarely works. The passport image capture rarely works. It takes about 20 minutes to do one Visa application and for a family of four or more, it is an arduous task just to get a basic bloody visa to this country. The UX at the end is painfully archaic 1.5 out of 10 must try hard harder.
