I booked a flight 4 months in advance for cheaper costs and flight guarantee. It was from Okinawa to the US with a layover in Taiwan and Seattle, initial departure was on Saturday the 11th. A typhoon hit Okinawa and was headed to Taiwan. Therefore they canceled my flight from Okinawa-> Taiwan and Taiwan-> Seattle. So the day prior to my flight I called and emailed the travel agency AND I called and emailed EVA Airlines. They both had said, the next available flight was on Tuesday the 14th (without providing a time), a minor delay, but not a big deal. Neither provided my new itinerary or a time, even after being asked. On the 11th I called, emailed, and did the online chat on their website. I received an email that said, for re-scheduling of flights it will cost $240 in taxes and that will be all, just reply “I agree” to the following email. I did and didn’t receive a response. I called them and they said “your flights are confirmed, we will email you the information.” I had waited all day for the information and finally emailed and called them again. They replied the same. On the 12th and 13th I did the same thing, consistent emails and consistent calls all asking for new flight times and itinerary, all brushed off and said “we will send you the information via email.” Still having no flight information, I called again at 9pm on the 13th, this time they said “we will call you once your flights were verified.” I thought they were already verified I was just waiting for the email? During this process, my wife had booked the same flight, but a different time. On the 11th she called and immediately got flight verification, flight, itinerary, and ticket information. I said up until 1:30 am waiting for a call and constantly refreshing my email, as my alleged flight was sometime tomorrow. I set an alarm for 7:30am to make a final call. This time I refused to hang up until I got the times and itinerary. After about 10 minutes on hold, I eventually, spoke to an agent who finally sent the email regarding the times. 10am was when my flight took off from Okinawa. At this point it was already 8:15am. I IMMEDIATELY got a ride to the airport, traffic in Okinawa is horrible, especially on the way to the airport. I arrived at the airport at 9:13(and I was definitely speeding and weaving traffic), I rushed to gate and ran to check-in. By the time I arrived at the gate, it was already closed. It was closed for 2 minutes. I was told that there was nothing I could do. I talked to the Travel Agents at the airport and was told to call the travel agency. I did and was told there was a $300 no show fee, and to get a new flight I would have to pay a total of $1400. $200 more than I paid for the initial flights. A grand total of (1400+300+240) $1940 dollars extra. Almost DOUBLE my initial ticket for something I had 0 control over. I will NEVER be using EVA airlines again. I would leave 0 stars if I could.
