Worst app ever

This is by far the worst app ever. I cannot access my account through this useless app and then I call customer service and they tell me to log in on the mobile website except for some lousy reason this useless website won’t work with Firefox?? Or safari so I have to go out of my way and download Google Chrome??? What is that??? And then instead of logging in on the website it’s now sending a notification to the worthless app that wasn’t working in the first place??? With a run around like this these people are scamming to steal your money guaranteed

The app needs work

This could be a great app, but it needs a lot of work. Every time I try to attach a document to an expense it tells me something is wrong. It also tells me I have too many documents and I need to delete some. It’s very frustrating when you get a letter that you need to provide documentation but yet the Apple allow you to do so.

Required passkeys locked me out

I previously didn’t have issues with the app but with the recent change requiring passkeys I am now locked out of my account via the mobile app even though I’ve set up passkeys. I don’t use the face recognition but prefer still using a password to unlock my phone which may be the issue? Im using passkeys with other apps without issue. Very frustrating to be forced to use passkeys and then have it not function and be locked out of the app.

Bugs bugs and more

New to this HE service and can’t get past all the bugs. Things like entering my password and then the Continue button is grayed out. Finally logging in and approving the login with a pass key and then it tells me I must sign back out. Repeat.

Also customer service told me it would take three business days for them to change my email address.

Avoid if you can!

Infringement and Control

I logged into the app today 7/30/26. It’s always been an okay app maybe 3.5 stars (It doesn’t remember my provider for reimbursement- I have to add all of their info every time. And, navigating isn’t the most intuitive.), but now the app deserves 1 star. They are changing the security requirements ‘for our safety and security’ to require a passkey. Mind you this requires you to put a passcode or Face ID on your device to set up and use. So this app that I use only a handful of times a year, wants to tell me how to use my device 24/7/365. Get out of here. If they want second layer of security they can continue to send a code via text or email to enter after entering your password (current workaround process until it’s fully implemented), or use an Authenticator app like Google Authenticator to generate codes. I don’t want my phone locked. There should not be an ultimatum to use an app. When you call in to customer service they always tell you about their free app. It was fine before and now it’s just annoying.

Sure my complaint might sound small, but where does it end. Health equity isn’t paying for my phone or phone bill. I don’t have any other apps on my phone that require a full device lock- and that includes my banking apps, medical record apps, investing apps, and Authenticator apps. You get the picture. This isn’t an app most people use on the regular. It should not require a device lock.

I have filed a formal complaint directly with the company with my concerns, and if the requirement changes, I will come and update my review on here.

Submitting claims

The scroll bar does not work when I’m in the interface to submit a claim. Please fix

Account & passkey features don’t work on the app.

See title. These features do work in the website.

Terrible security workflow

A passkey was set up. Everything was working until one fine day they changed something. Now I am stuck in weird loops of locked account and no sensible way to solve it. Looks like they don’t do UAT. Developers and testers are idiots.

Desktop vs App Lockout Cycle

Getting stuck in the app vs desktop loop with password, passkey, etc. Real pain, though I appreciate the security enhancement.

Shady

They recently tried to collect everyone’s biometric data…you do NOT have to consent. Another company destroying privacy under the guise of keeping you safe and trying to hide it.

Worst App

This is the worst App i ever had, its not friendly user app all this App do is give me headache, so many times i have created username & password just to get in the apps, just after a couple of days not using it and trying to log back in the Apps wont recognize you, hopefully someday they create for negative reviews this is not even worth 1 star

Security Theater at the Expense of Usability

1 Star

This app is a masterclass in how to make security feel like punishment.

I already use a password manager. I already use unique passwords. I already use multi factor authentication. None of that matters because HealthEquity has decided that every customer should use authentication exactly the way HealthEquity wants.

Mandatory passkeys are not innovation. They are the removal of customer choice.

The best banks and financial institutions let customers decide whether they want a password, a hardware security key, an authenticator app, or a passkey. HealthEquity looked at those options and somehow concluded that forcing everyone into one method was the better customer experience.

The result is exactly what you would expect. A login process that is more frustrating than the healthcare it is supposed to support.

To make matters worse, I still did not receive my HSA debit card after nearly two months. Somehow the company found the time to redesign authentication but not to deliver the basic product customers actually need.

The app feels like it was designed by people who measure success by security checklists instead of customer experience. Every extra step is justified in the name of protection, while the user pays the price in wasted time and unnecessary frustration.

Security should reduce risk without creating friction. This app creates friction first and calls it security.

The greatest threat to my HSA isn’t fraud. It’s having to use this app.

I hate it here

I don’t want to be forced into downloading another app to access my own money. I save receipts on a computer and now I have to move them to my phone just to submit them for reimbursement? Also, the AI chatbot is terribly designed.

Bugs out every time I try to log in now

I cannot even log into the app anymore after time spent troubleshooting it (verified settings, redownloaded app). Used to be so convenient to check my balance before using my HSA card when checking out instead of needing to know that information beforehand.

Can’t add Authenticator passcode “on this device”

And doesn’t allow to login without it. Can’t get to my account through the app since the last update.

Used to be a good app.

Have you fired all the developers and now only PMs and AI agents do the job?

Terrible

Consistently, despite the numerous app upgrades and bug fixes, this app performs horribly. Basic functions that a smartphone usually does (scrolling a page) just does not work while in this app. Each time I am using the app I get a blacked out screen or simply booted off loosing my progress. They need to start over completely. And possibly look into whomever is scamming them claiming they are updated and bug fixing, cause that cannot possibly be happening.

Stay away like the plague; you’ll lose your money and no support

Health equity has to be the worst app we have ever used. For four years we have struggled with this app. It crashes most of us can’t login, limited to using the website; reimbursements go missing, faxes get lost, money disappears, transactions are duplicated or missed altogether. It’s horrible. Four years down the line nothing is fixed. It just gets worse. The support doesn’t work anymore. The phone lines break up and there is no response for six months at a time. Finally my company was so frustrated, they moved to Fidelity HSA and we have been extremely happy ever since. Avoid this company like the plague.

ANNOYING

This “passkey” thing is so frustrating because it does not let me log in cause it’s always popping up “error code”.
FIX THIS problem.

Unnecessarily difficult to access account

Constant Login Issues

This app is a complete disaster. Half the time, it fails to log me in. Even when their website accepts valid passkeys, this app doesn’t. I used to be able to create a new passkey easily, but now I have to submit an ID through a third-party service. I just reinstalled the app, and that particular issue went away. However, this is just one of many problems I’ve had with this app, including the bank’s shady practices (undisclosed fees) and other issues. All of these factors have forced me to give this app a one-star rating.
