lacks a common but important feature
The app lacks an important feature to automatically switch mode in Schedule. For example, we want to use Hybrid mode during day time but Electric/Vacation mode at midnight e.g., 12:00am - 8:00am.
It might be a little counter-intuitive why I list Electric or Vacation mode together, because these two modes are quiet, while Hybrid mode indeed causes noise during midnight as it will use heat pump, especially you have in-house model.
Every time the hybrid mode works during the midnight, it wake people up, especially your home is quiet. We have to manually put the mode to Electric mode, or manually switch the mode to Electric mode before bedtime.
The app’s current function cares only efficiency or cost-saving, and use this for selling point, but never thinks that we need a quiet mode during midnight. I saw people discussed about this feature on Reddit three years ago, and frustrated to see this feature is not available until today.

If I could, I give it zero stars
I had the previous app that provided little assistance or use. I hoped that in this day and age A. O. Smith would produce an app that’s useful. Unfortunately when I tried to sign back in, it did not recognize my water heater. I tried to register but it did not recognize my serial number. Called, on hold no action. Called again and spent 45 min with a technician who informed me that he couldn’t fix it but his team was world be able to but it was a holiday and it might take a few days. That was 2 weeks ago. Heard nothing. Still not able to access the app. Called again. On hold. Called again and the automated system said they call back as the wait was 10 min. Two days later, still no callback. Don’t buy from A.O. Smith. Don’t bother with this app.

App will not connect
App is a janky mess, tons of problems most of all will not connect to water heater.
Terrible
I repeatedly have trouble with this app and it’s predecessor, the AO Smith app. I am often logged out and get a generic error when trying to log back in. I call phone support and am told, “they’re updating the app, please try again in 24 hours.” If that’s the case, the app should describe that maintenance is underway. This same condition has been the case for the two years I’ve owned this water heater. Terrible app and no communication from the company.

This app works one time, doesn’t, next works again, then doesn’t!

Worst app on my phone tbh!
Horrible app, never works when required. Keeps signing out and removes my heater from profile. Even to submit the feedback on the app it required multiple attempts and yet couldn’t do it. Hire some good developers!!
Incredible bad
One of the worst apps out there. Why is AO Smith letting this damage their reputation? Keeps disconnecting. Keeps forgetting devices. Unresponsive for no reason. The list goes on.

Failed even creating an account
Could not even onboard with this app. Their team has been notified though and is actively investigating the cause, though, according to the message shown. Will try again next week.
Unreliable
The app does not execute the commands that it proposes to do. After I’ve input my schedule to top off hot water, it doesn’t ever follow through with it.
App sucks
It doesn’t update and just overall doesn’t work despite being connected.

I don’t log in often but when I do I would expect my water heater to still be in the app but nope. Every time I need to re-add my water heater. So stupid.
Terrible app
It stopped connecting to the AO Smith server for some unknown reason. I had to delete the app and start over in order to get it to reconnect. Pathetic, in this day and age.
Tech support is a waste of time
I’ve called Tech support so many times and they cant fix my issue. The app has an error adding my water heater! It’s been almost a month now trying to add my water heater.

AO Smith, hire a different firm for your app
Did you do the classic “hired a marketing company to make an app that has complicated interaction with an embedded computer operating in a demanding environment? Based on how poorly this operates, it appears so! Consider a different firm, or hire your own software engineers in house because heat pumps are almost expected to have functional and reliable apps.

Buyer beware don’t do it
Woooooow pay extra money to get this feature that doesn’t work and they know it doesn’t work. Did you hear me? They know it does not work f them greedy mfrs just took it back and got my money back from Lowe’s
Barely Workable App
It lets me change modes remotely, so that’s good I guess. But the electricity usage tracking chart is pretty much useless. And various buttons, including the back button when you go into settings, simply turn white and don’t work sometimes. Very poorly programmed and QA’d. As such, don’t trust that it will do what you want when you need it to.

Doesn’t work.
The app doesn’t work. You can deplete all of your hot water out of the tank and it says you still have hot water.
Technology today is much better than this overall and the app should work but it doesn’t.

Not able to log in on weekends
For some reason, the app seldom seems to work on weekends, at least if you need to log in again. I seem to usually get “Unknown error” messages, and then when Monday rolls around, it works again. Whoever the clowns are that developed this app and backend service should be fired.
