What's New in Salesforce Authenticator

4.7.0

April 14, 2025

We made automation easier than ever. - Automation is now enabled by default to approve requests that you trust when certain conditions are met. - We added Einstein icons for automation to Salesforce ecosystem accounts the home screen. The automation toggle includes an Einstein icon that is blue when automation is on and gray when automation is off. Accounts include a blue Einstein icon with a check mark if automation is enabled, a gray icon with an X if it’s disabled, and if automation isn’t an option, the Einstein icon doesn’t show up. - We fixed some bugs.

Low-effort slop

This is an old app, and it looks and feels that way too. Absolutely terrible. I have to manually input the code every time which is a pain. This is supposed to make life easier. Not harder. Salesforce, you’ve failed with this app. You’ve failed hard.

You buy reviews because you’re a bad company. This app doesn’t have the 4 star rating, that’s a lie and you know it. Apple needs to be investigated for allowing this to continue.

Efficient

Works well

Quite useless

Expect to be on Salesforce 5-10 minutes after logging in. This app is buggy and quite useless

It never works!

I have to use it everyday and the pop up in the app works 1 in 10 times. I almost always have to wait for a new code and click use another method in my browser because the app is barely functional

Worst UX ever

The whole point of this app is to make authentication more seamless for companies. It dies the exact opposite. The copy and UX are horribly confusing. I often find myself in confusing authentication loops without recourse. For example, when you say “on your computer, enter this two-word phrase when prompted” — huh? Provide more context. When will I be prompted? Who is prompting me? How will I be prompted? What do I do if I’m not prompted? Also, the static icons above—what do these even mean? Why are they here? And the bit that says “To connect other accounts, scan a QR code”—again, where do I find a QR code? This is a horrible UX with confusing instructions, which defeats its purpose from the start.

FAQ

What does Salesforce Authenticator do?

Salesforce Authenticator provides multi-factor authentication (MFA) to secure your online accounts. It allows you to verify your identity when logging in or performing critical actions by sending push notifications to your mobile device, which you can approve or deny with a tap.

How does the app enhance security?

The app adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification beyond just a password. This can be through approving a push notification or by using one-time verification codes, making it much harder for unauthorized users to access your accounts.

Is Salesforce Authenticator free to use?

Yes, Salesforce Authenticator is a free application. There are no costs associated with downloading or using its core multi-factor authentication features.

What kind of accounts can I secure with this app?

You can use Salesforce Authenticator to secure any online account that supports time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) or allows multi-factor authentication using a generic 'Authenticator app'.

How does the location-based automation work and is my data safe?

If enabled, the app uses your device's location services to automatically approve account activity from trusted locations. Salesforce states that location data is stored securely on your device, never shared, and can be deleted or turned off at any time.
