New AI system needs work
I’ve been a user for 5 years and greatly advanced my fitness to top amateur levels in BC. I’ve also learned a lot about the science and methods of training along the way. And it’s clear that the new AI system needs some work. It erroneously analyzes outdoor workouts and correspondingly the detections/predictions yo-yo around. That’s annoying and distracting, but not that big a deal. The real problem with all that is that it then picks the WRONG workout for you - the complete opposite of what they claim. The app and system are great, but I will save my money unless they can get this resolved. I recently started self coaching again with freely available AI tool support, and I’ve unlocked the fitness the TR AI was keeping from me for the past 6 months. So I’ll save the $300CAD per year from TR and put it towards something more productive for my goals for now.
If you’re a beginner, it’s a great place to start and learn about training. But if you’re advanced at training, I’d suggest to go elsewhere with your money and more importantly your time.

AI not for everyone
The workout player is polished and the workout library is huge. The support team does their best to support a somewhat flawed product.
Unfortunately the latest overhaul of the app is heavily AI-focused, and it’s simply not ready for prime time. The team may get there eventually, but the current struggles are eerily familiar to the long wait for Adaptive Training to properly account for outdoor rides. The new AI was supposed to be the solution to that, but it still goes off the rails way too often.
The workarounds amount to adjusting your FTP to where you think it should be and choosing workouts that feel right. So if the workout library and player are worth the price, TR makes sense. Otherwise, probably not.

Getting faster with TR
I’ve used TrainerRoad for a few years. When I’m on the plan and stick to it, I always improve. The new AI feature is awesome and a great motivator to stick to the plan. It adapts to your schedule, outdoor rides, events… whatever life throws at you. TR Podcast is also a fantastic resource. Highly recommend!
