The Perfect Companion to Apple Passwords

Apple Passwords does, well, passwords. But what about payment cards, bank accounts, passports, software licenses, etc.? Unlock stores everything except for passwords and behaves exactly like Apple Passwords so there’s no learning curve. You’d be insane not to get it.

Nearly Perfect

If you are a refugee from 1PW’s price increase, then the combination of Apple Passwords and Uplock will give you nearly all the functionality that 1PW had. Unfortunately, Uplock only has an extension for Safari, so if you prefer to use another browser you won’t be autofilling your credit card details, which can be stored in Uplock. Now Apple has made iCloud Password extensions for Firefox and Chrome, so it would make sense for Uplock to do the same. Another thing to be aware of is that the free version of Uplock will not let you edit an entry, you have to subscribe to be able to do that (but at least it’s cheaper than 1PW!)

Excellent, F subscriptions

So basically it’s a secure text app that has some premade forms. It’s what’s missing from the Passwords app. But I’m not putting these nice folks on my personal payroll for a simple little app that a bright high school sophomore could make. I’m not paying $50 for a one-time license either. So I’m using the five record limit until Apple Sherlocks it, or until I catch the one-time license at half off. It’s just a matter of time before it gets Sherlock’s or someone duplicates it for a lot less.

Looks Promising

I have been using a Vault’ for some years and only discovered its sync/backup wasn’t useful when my phone bricked and I had to reinstall.
Looked at the options available now and 2apps checked all the boxes. This is No. 1, so it’s getting the first opportunity to prove its merits. Bonus that its indie Canadian developers, eh!

Could be good

I saw the headline “NEW! AutoFill”, and though I could finally ditch 1password, which autofills passwords AND credit cards. I didn’t read the fine print—Autofill is available only with Safari, which I don’t use. Sadly, Unlock is pretty useless for me, as without Autofill it’s doesn’t really do much beyond the standard Passwords app.

Great App - Should Not Be A Subscription

The app syncs entirely through iCloud and they do not host their own servers. Everything is either locally on-device or on iCloud. So why should I need to pay monthly for this? I would gladly pay a small one-time fee (not $50, that's insane) but there is no technical need to have this be a continual subscription.

Since there is no technical need to have this be a subscription, it appears to violate 3.1.2(a) "Permissible uses" of Apple's App Review Guidelines.

According to Apple, "examples of appropriate subscriptions include: new game levels; episodic content; multiplayer support; apps that offer consistent, substantive updates; access to large collections of, or continually updated, media content; software as a service (“SAAS”); and cloud support."

Super, merci!

Fast, available on all devices, user friendly, simple yet has all the functionality you need.

Excellent product fills the gap

Found this by accident and couldn’t be happier. Apple passwords has a couple of huge holes that this fills completely! Having secure notes with images is exactly what the commercial password managers offer. Getting Uplock with Apple means I have a secure icloud environment easily managed and shared as I choose. Developers are extremely responsive. Absolutely worth trying if you use apple passwords.

Unstable, missing functionality, not sure if trustworthy.

App seems promising and the reviews are great. Unfortunately I found a major bug about 30 seconds into it that crashes the app completely if you do the following: Open Settings > General, Toggle on Lock Uplock, Require Touch ID, select any option other than Only on Launch, Toggle on Show in Menu Bar and Keep in Menu Bar, Close the Settings window and main window, Click the menu bar icon and click the restore main window button… CRASH! Apart from it being annoying it also makes the app insecure. There is some sort of disconnect with the menu bar functionality.

I am giving it 2 stars for now and have sent in a bug report via email. Let’s see if that gets fixed. I find it also frustrating that there isn’t a place other than email to send in feedback. Also there’s no Help under the Help menu. "Help isn’t available for Uplock.” isn’t acceptable. The app feels half-baked because of these issues.

Response from developer

Hello, Thank you for the detailed feedback, and we’re sorry about the issues you ran into with Uplock 3.1.6. The crash you described has since been addressed in Uplock 3.2 release. We’d really appreciate it if you could retest with the latest version and reconsider your rating if things are now working as expected. If anything still feels off or remains unresolved, please get back to us at support@uplock.app. Reports like yours are genuinely helpful and help us improve the app faster. We also hear your point about support and in-app help. That is an area we know needs improvement, and we’re actively working on it. Thanks again for taking the time to write this up and for giving Uplock a try. Kind regards, Andre Uplock team

Great app, fix the name

Coming from 1Password to Apple Passwords, I needed something to handle all those items that are not passwords, which 1P handled so well.

Uplock does this beautifully, mimicking the Apple Password app style, and keeps my data in iCloud which I appreciate.

My one request: since being renamed from Access to Uplock, the app is still only searchable with Spotlight under the Access name (on MacOS, iOS is fine); be nice if the developer would fix that so we have consistency.

Also, the Help menu needs to be finished. Nobody wants to see “No help is available”. Remove it, or make it work. As a coder, this stuff drives me NUTS. The product is over a year old, no reason not to have at least a way of contacting the developer via the help menu.

Developer responsive to feedback

I contacted the developer about a vision accessibility issue and they fixed it.

Overpriced garbage

A password manager without a password manager. You can use dozens of other apps that do this better and cheaper. Devs are also narcissists with a god complex.

Totally worth it

I really like how it’s so much more than just a password saver. It’s great for keeping copies of my ID and documents totally secure. The Autofill works perfectly and knowing everything is safely synced through my own iCloud is a huge relief.

A perfect compliment to Apple Passwords

Really appreciate this app filling in the gaps between Apple Passwords and my previous 1Password app. Super responsive developer and the enhancements keep coming!

White print on light blue impossible to read

I have a vision issue and find white text on light blue impossible to read, so can read the “selected” item
