What a joke!
On July 15th I placed an order thru Door Dash for Popeyes Chicken at a cost of $48.21 unfortunately my food came and was totally incomplete and wrong… I took pics and sent to Door Dash they denied my request for refund or adjustment. I had to wait for this charge to post and I proceeded to call Varo to file a dispute, I was told that Varo is not responsible, I did not say they were responsible! I just wanted a refund for not receiving my complete order. Guess I now know that I got fleeced for $48.21 And Varo did not help. Thanks for nothing!

Varo is unlawful
I’ve had Varo for years and enjoyed their high APR savings account. They recently closed my account without warning and now I have to wait a month to receive my funds. I was given no other course of actions. They didn’t even provide a reason within the closure email. Now I’m without bill, gas, grocery, or rent money. Thanks Varo.

App Needs Work
Please remove the auto-populating of what account is “transferred from” and “transferred to”. Just allow the user to select. I have countlessly transferred money in error because you have automatically put the accounts instead of letting the choice be made by the end user. ALL other banks leave the choice up to the holder of the account. It used to be like this then you changed it.

Logging in issue / closed my account for no reason
.The issue is logging in so buggy it’s very annoying . I have business accounts I forgot open and it’s still open lol not Varo closed it thank god i got another credit from another bank

I have been a member for a good while as this bank starts creating unnecessary policies to keep people money I do not understand If I have authorization to retrieve my money why is the bank holding my money freedom from sticky policies is the reason I changed to this bank and gave it praise but now I have to look at this platform different and find another with the same pre values to move to.

Customer service is non existent. Had zelle this morning and then not all within an hour. Not sure how the system just withdraws the service when its actively in use. Said its “system generated” well maybe it shouldnt be.

Incompetent Banking Institution
Do not choose this bank. Varo promises you can get a cash advance if you have a direct deposit. Thier advance was $20. My Aunt tried to zelle some money to me and each time Varo would return it and say I was unenrolled from zelle. She tried 5 times. It never went through. Then when you have an issue you can only chat online. The support agents just spew rehearsed dialogue. They were no help. On top of everything, I have difficulty seeing the keys. They had no other options to communicate which made it difficult for me. It’s discrimination. Run away from this bank as fast as you can. They cant even complete a money transfer. This is what they do for a living. A money transfer should be second nature for them.

Personally I have had zero issues with Varo bank. I’ve been using them for about 4 years and I still prefer Varo over anything else available to me. It’s FREE checking and savings. If you need to call and make a change to your contact info or PIN number, it’s so simple. I recommend this bank to anyone looking for free checking online.

Warning they don’t keep your account safe! Early last year, I had then in my contacts. I answered the phone & sometime asked if I used my acct in Florida. They said I could get back in my account in 30 min. I thought that was odd. I called Varo myself within minutes. Apparently someone had all of my info & changed my password & email and sent my money somewhere. Varo gave me that $ & set up a word only I’d know and they said my account would be safe from there out. My next payday I could not get in my acct & I called them. The email was changed again and as I was on the phone with them a call came in from the same number (I didn’t answer of course as I had found out they don’t call you). Well, they were supposed to give me a few minutes to get what money was in there. Instead, they closed my account and said it was for my protection. That my account had been compromised. I found out it is happening to a lot of people who bank with Varo. Pus, in 2024 there was a data breach that I didn’t know about (kinda sounds like my old acct was breached). Maybe it was an inside job. No one was looking out for how that “compromise happened. They sent me a small check of what I had in my account. I talked to an Attorney General office and they had the same happen & wondered if there was another breach, a class action suit on them or not.

This is an online bank that technically offers Zelle, but only after you’ve had your Varo account for 60 days or deposited at least $1,000 within a rolling 61‑day period.
So to fund your account, your choices are either:
• Use ACH and wait 3–5 days for your own money to crawl through that miserable process, or
• Physically go to a CVS, if you’re lucky enough to have one nearby, have them scan a barcode on your phone, and hand over cash like it’s 2004.
They could easily relax their Zelle requirements and allow instant funding, but instead they’ve chosen a policy that actively pushes customers away.
They claim it’s about “risk,” but let’s be honest…if their CIP process were solid and they were truly confident in their Patriot Act compliance, they wouldn’t need to impose a requirement that blocks legitimate customers from basic functionality. That’s exactly why I closed my account shortly after discovering this nonsense.
Varo has been around since 2015, but with rules like these, I don’t see them lasting much longer.

The app overall is great, now if you need to send money it puts small unrealistic limits on how much, then they added Zelle o & I thought that would be the answer but STILL I can’t send a single $ to anyone highly frustrating having to go to an ATM every time. I pay rent like this and it’s just highly inconvenient. Something to think about if you send money often.
