  • Best accessory to hold 225f

I felt compelled to send in a review for the Smartfire. Not something I normally do, but this SF has freed me up to get on with my day once the meat is in. Holds 225f remarkably well, the app platform is solid and user friendly. Had a issue in the initial set up (probably my own doing) but no problem for Mark from SF. Got in touch via email, he replied with he’s direct mobile number and sorting it out in one phone call remotely from he’s location to my SF unit via the cloud, very impressed. Support an Australian product and just buy one, worth every dollar. I couldn’t recommend any more highly, you won’t regret it. Dean.

  • Superb product and great family run team

Effortlessly control your bbq and smoker pits. This really is set and forget for almost every bbq on the planet and really does produce amazing food.
  • Horrible

App work whenever it wants to,
    Constantly unsynchronized.
This has been such a let down unfortunately.
Will try to return and get my money back
  • Buggy and unresponsive

It doesn’t have even a basic on/off control to start or stop a cook!

The app communicates with a cloud server and that server then controls the pit. The app is often out of sync with the server and not accurately displaying what the pit is doing. Changes to the settings in the app get mangled at the server and cause unpredictable results at the pit. You could be waiting for hours with little to no response or find it stoking too much. Bottom line is serious unpredictability and an attention drain because you won’t be able to rely on the product to automate your cook.

  • Great product and app

Bought a Smartfire about 6 months to help get temperature under control in a Kamado Joe. Overall the unit has been flawless. Keeps temps on the Kamado exactly where I want them to be and ensures that I can monitor (and control) the unit from anywhere - as long as I have 4g connectivity in the phone.
Had been a great help for longer cooks

  • Why all the great reviews?

Zero success on this thing so far. Connected initially. Disconnected mid-smoke even with Bluetooth in near proximity. Had to reinstall the app and login again. Disconnected again and can’t login anymore. Just hangs. So many expectations for this thing and complete failure. Quality must have gone in the tank reading all these reviews and also online grilling groups.

    Developer Response

The most common issue with the previous "V4 BT+WiFi" generation of Smartfire controllers was the user's wifi router setting for channel width/bandwidth. Set it to 20mhz to avoid the random drop outs that match the symptoms you describe. We have a help article at: https://smartfirebbq.com/blogs/news/improving-your-home-wi-fi-for-smartfire-and-everything-else Note, the 5.0 version has newer wifi chips and happily works in either 40 or 20mhz wifi environments.
  • This makes smoking a breeze

This makes low and slow in a kamado ridiculously easy. Start your fire, set your temp, put the meat on, come back when it tells you it’s ready 6–12 hours later. (Ok, maybe some spritzing and wrapping at some point too)
  • Essential accessory

I bought the Smartfire to compliment my two Kamado Joes. Best decision ever!
Being able to monitor and set the temperature and see the meat reach and slowly push through the stall point has changed how I cook.
The rewards are obvious, delicious food that has the right internal temp and falls apart with the touch of a spoon.
I’ve tried so many different thermometers, and this has been the ultimate solution 😍

  • Smart smoker

Brilliant app. I was half expecting it to be a basic temp slider and that’s it, this app gives you graphs showing the temp through the whole cook, recommendations for certain types of meat, you can set 3 different meats to each of the 3 probes. You can even pair multiple devices to the app at once. You do have to create a login but that shouldn’t be a problem for 99% of people able to use the App Store.

You can see they’ve put some effort into this, it’s not just an app for the sake of it.

  • Time settings and Apple Watch integration

Would be nice to have option of 24hr time selections. While still a very useful app, I would also like to see an Apple Watch app added. The ability to manipulate controller
settings of the cook from the watch would be nice. At a minimum, the ability to see temps from watch is needed.
