Squarespace doesnt know if they want the app to do everything or nothing

When the app first came out it did the bare minimum. You really needed to use the website to get anything done. A year later the app could do everything and never needed to go to the website. The app was amazing. Now the reduced the amount of stuff you can do in the app and tell you to do it on the website. If the app can do everything, why not let it. The worst part is I only own an ipad and now I can’t do what I want on the app, which would be find but the website doesnt let me do it either.

What im specifically talking about is something as simple as dragging a block. It cant be done because the app and website registers it as an attempt to highlight.

So Far

So far I’m loving how handy it is to have the website on the go, but something I would really love (and I’m not sure if this is already a thing but I just can’t find it) would be an inbox for the contact form. A simple inbox where I can reply directly from the app rather than only from my email.

‘New app’ keeps reverting to old app - definitely not working properly

Edit - after my last review things improved and I had good access of the new in app analytics for a few days - although it made me log in with password on every opening - but since yesterday I just have a blurred screen and rotating circle icon with app not even loading - despite deleting and reloading 😫

I’ve had the new app for a while, but still kept using old familiar analytics app - now forced to use the new app since old one has been switched off - only the new app keeps reverting to old layout on my iPhone. Click on analytics and it tells me to download analytics app that you have now switched off ?? Then get stuck in that page - literally have to close the app leave it a few hours and reopen app again & it loads as new app - great - I go and look at analytics that works fine, but as soon as I use the ‘home’ button it takes me back into the old app - which is switch off - it’s like being stuck in Groundhog Day - only I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong - so I can no longer monitor my website on the move. Very disappointing.

Very minimal functionality

What’s the point of having access to only the top 5 entries of each stat on analytics - for example when I’m trying to view how many units sold per product - it shows the top few products, you should then be able to click to view stats for all products. What use is analytics if it’s just limited to top 5, you still have to use a computer to complete most tasks? Hopefully it improves in the future.

I love the app but update has me constantly logged out

There is a glitch on the ‘menu’ content block after you save on a page and go to edit another ‘menu’ content block, it will not display any data, so logging in and out multiple times to do simple edits is taking way to much time.

I also liked the previous version that kept me logged in. It seems the latest update on this one continually logs off, whereas commerce and analytics will stay logged in (preferred to stay logged in).

Lately I login via safari on iPhone as a workaround as the editing process for a restaurants with multiple menus and x10 locations needs to happen quickly.

Have to use for analytics view on mobile

Having to download an app just to look at basic analytics without even an option to continue on a web browser is ridiculous and unnecessary.

Spectacular

I’ve been a Squarespace member for years and I’ve been happy to keep my annual subscription going because they offered and still continue to offer incredible value. One thing I noticed as many as others is how ironic it is that this company delivers such a flawless web/mobile web experience but their app used to be T R A S H. How lucky am I that I started blogging yesterday to discover that the app is now fully functional! It is huge that I can now continue to write my articles on the go wherever I am!

Love Squarespace, Hate the mobile app

It’s almost impossible to edit page on my phone. Things don’t load & constantly having to close and re-open app. Honestly I give Squarespace space 6-stars for use on PC. Overall love the service. Much needed tweaks for mobile though.

Update. From 2 Starr to 4. Quick customer service although trying to edit your page on an iPhone 7 , probably isn’t the best idea for websites. Squarespace is by far the best user friendly when it comes to functionality

Need a way for website owner to manage customer account.

Just need the option to delete a customer account. Your forgot password on the site is very slow or doesn’t send to the customer. It’s been a repeat problem over and over. And when the customer contacts me I am helpless to help them. If I could delete the account it would solve the problem. It would still protect the customer’s privacy but also give the site owner some options to assist them when they can’t seem to login or ask for their autoship to be turned off on our end. Right now I can’t help them with the issue of password reset or canceling their subscription. Which leaves me limited in customer service.

Getting worse

Updating on my 2-star review below, things are getting worse for me, not better.

Tags added in the app now only get added in lower case, even though Squarespace tags are case-sensitive. This means all tags get forked into upper and lower case versions and related posts are not linked (if you have pre-existing tags created in the web app).

The URL issue remains unsolved.

After 3 years of blogging on Squarespace, I have come to accept that I can no longer manage my workflow on mobile.

Site looks pretty, though, and switching platform would be a massive pain at this stage…

(I’d rate Squarespace as a whole pretty well – desktop is great – but this app is a huge let-down for me.)

Old review

The two big problems for anyone creating blog posts in this app:

1. The post URL does not match your configured naming scheme (goodbye /blog/post-title; hello /blog/g1bberi5HhAHvGK)

2. You cannot create tags.

Both of those were fine in the old Blog app.

I eventually got a reply from support, who confirmed that new tags are not implemented, then suggested the naming scheme issues may be caused by custom CSS on the site. Rather than accept the goose-chase invitation to remove all customisation and retest their product for them, I plumped for manually entering the URL every time.

Was not a huge fan of the Blog app, but this is a downgrade for me. Hoping it will improve.
