  • This is not an accurate metric for driving safety.

I live in a metropolitan area with narrow streets, lots of curves, and plenty of throughways. Stopping and decelerating quickly is one of the mainstays if defensive driving. This app is so sensitive to speed changes that, unless I am driving on an empty road for a five minute errand at night, I cannot get above a 70 on my smooth driving score. My typical ride to work is ten minutes. I drive 35mp the whole way and there are three stoplights. If I hit a single red light, no matter how slowly I stop, I get a 65 on smooth driving. This is garbage forced on me by a car insurance company that’s wants to artificially jack up my rates if I won’t drive like an 80 year old with failing vision.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to provide a review. We are sorry to hear that you've had a poor experience with the app. The scoring calculates a variety of risk factors, including Speed, Time and Day, Smooth Driving (Sudden Acceleration and Harsh Braking), Phone Habits, and Trip Duration.
  • Needs better metrics

Im annoyed that part of the driving score is the time of day. If you are rating MY driving then what does the time have to do with anything. I can't help what time I have to go to work. Seems like all my scores are always 80+ except for that one.
  • Not thought out thoroughly

I realize there are many facets of an application like this one and many items to consider simultaneously. The problem with this application are the factors mentioned by others. First of all, if you keep your acceleration down enough to get a good score, people will be passing you and honking among other gestures—entirely unsafe. You can place your phone in the car and not touch it for the entirety of your drive and not get any calls or texts and your phone score will vary significantly. I believe speed can be an issue as well if traffic is moving faster and everyone is passing—this is also dangerous. So, while this does provide driving statistics, it’s far from a safe driving tool and I believe will cause problems that could lead to accidents.

Hello and thank you very much for taking the time to provide this great feedback. The Speed score measures of the likelihood of having an accident based on speed. We understand that the flow of traffic does not always match the posted speed limits. In general, if you are flowing with traffic, you will get a better score than if you are driving too fast for the environment.
  • Possibly Dangerous

Twice just yesterday 2 people passed me in no passing zone because I was keeping my acceleration low enough to not get a bad rating. Wow if you stop quickly! Even a mild or low deceleration will cause a bad rating. I guess it’s better to cause accidents?
  • Way. Too. Sensitive.

If your trip is short, even if you have 2 or 3 instances where your driving wasn’t 100% smooth, it will knock your smooth driving score below 60. Be aware that changing your music from your steering wheel, not your phone (if it is Bluetooth) will count against you. The time and day always count against you, especially if you pretty much only drive to your 9-5 job, and I have yet to see the time and day score above a 75. I will not be renewing my insurance with this program. The app is setting the driver up to fail.
