  • Nearly perfect but …..

Much the best interface and features of all train apps. But one niggle:

My version will not put entries into my calendar. It downloads the .ics file but when I click on it I get a blank page. I have to go into my account on my Mac desktop to put the journeys into my calendar. I notice that I am not allowed to look into the documents folder of the app because it is not set up for file sharing. Could this be the problem?

  • Poor UX

This app has good features but is ruined by the lack of user testing and incomplete data.

Example 1: Changing a first class ticket time in-app presents two £0 options that do not clearly present that one is standard. Therefore I picked the wrong one and then was fined £30 onboard. A simple clear indicator in the UI or prompt to tell the user they are downgrading (when for the same price they could retain first class) would solve this.

Example 2: Platform announcements feature rarely works despite not indicating it. I just almost missed my train because the app says ‘no platform announced’. Ticket conductor said that the app is useless and not to use it.

  • Easy to use!

Works great from the States! Advance purchase gave us peace of mind.
  • The BEST train app there is!!

I’ve got to say I absolutely love the LNER app. I’m a student living away from home and also travel a lot for events, festivals & city breaks so discounted trains are essential for me. I used to use Trainline and compare the 2 before booking a train now and always choose LNER. They seem to show up way cheaper options for trains even tho it is the same ticket as Trainline.
On top of this they have so many perks for just using the app, couldn’t go back to using Trainline!

  • One glitch

This is an otherwise excellent app, but could the developers please fix one thing which is really irritating. When you alter your train time or date, you keep getting reminders for the old train that you’ve cancelled as well as for the replacement journey. Surely, with modern technology, you could program the app to set reminders only for the changed journey?

Thanks for updating your review! We've got some new changes coming to the system that coordinates the notifications, so hopefully this bug will be a thing of the past soon!
  • Useful app

Everyone has their own app these days, but I use this one as I make a journey with them often enough.

It's quick & easy to book, & handy to be able to see your tickets straight away, so no faffing with ticket collections, downloading stuff from emails, printing stuff, etc.

Would be better if you could look up 2 journeys at the same time, in different 'tabs' or something. For example, I usually book a train from London to up north, but from my local train station I don't book it so I can keep my plans flexible, but it would be handy to see what time the trains are & if I can make a connection. If I put the full journey in from my station to up north, sometimes if just shows the ones with the best connection times, but if you wanna go for a particular time train from London, you have to do a separate journey from your local station to London to check what would get in in time, & then go back to the main journey.

  • LNER app problems

Could get group discount or the discount for signing up. Can’t figure out why.
  • Error message on my account

There is an error message on the One Click Delay Repay part on my app. It says I need to refresh as the transactions have failed to load. I have done this and also deleted and reinstalled the app but the message is still the same. I have messaged LNER and would like tech support to help but no one seems interested and just keep saying we have not been informed there is a problem on the app. The whole point in me having the app is for convenience and I don’t want to have to manually apply every time I have to ask for a refund. I just want to be able to use the One Click Delay Repay as I have enabled it.

    Developer Response

Hi Diane, sorry to hear about this. You should have been listened to when you reported the concern. We *have* been informed there's a problem on the app if you've taken the time to tell us there is! Your expectations of the app are correct, it's there for convenience. I'll pass this on to the team and hopefully they'll be in touch soon.
  • Stuck at Kings Cross

After postponing our journey on Friday 18 Feb and buying new more expensive tickets for Monday 21 Feb- as at the time LNER website was saying to claim a refund and rebook rather that accept the Friday tickets on Monday- we are now stuck at Kings Cross with no trains moving due to power line problems. I’ve now had to book new tickets for tomorrow as there is no news on today’s travel. Advice from LNER to travel from Euston is not really helpful as we can’t reserve seats on Avanti trains - so no guarantee of a seat or travel. I appreciate that none of it is LNERs fault and your staff are doing a really good job keeping people informed in a friendly manner- so full marks to them. I just hope all the refunds go through without a problem

  • Every booking goes into fraud review

The app is great and I use it many times a week. But it’s suddenly started sending every transaction into fraud review (which takes a long time - the app simply hangs in the payment step). When I try again it works each time. Something in the app or in the fraud review flagging system seems to be broken.
