I am in the US and started using Sleepio in September, 2017, when I was 63 years old. I had suffered from insomnia for many decades, and was using Ativan, a benzodiazepine, for about 10 years. My doctor said it was safe and non habit forming, and that she used it herself. When I retired and moved to a new state, my new doctor said I should get off of that pill because it’s more dangerous the older you get. Around the same time, I saw a brief mention about Sleepio in a magazine. I went through the entire program over several months, and soon after, I was completely off of Ativan. I gradually reduced my dosage over several months, and now only use it during international travel with significant time differences. I don’t know if the program is different now, but I found the Community interaction to be crucial for success. Most of the members were from the UK, so it didn’t seem to be used in the US very much. I highly recommend this program. In the UK, it’s covered by the National Health Service. I don’t know if insurance covers it yet in the US. I didn’t pay anything, because I think it may have still been in a testing mode. But it absolutely worked for me. Like other programs (losing weight, getting off drugs or cigarettes, etc) you have to be determined and motivated, and trust the process. Interacting with the community within the app is also key. Best of luck in your journey to better sleep, AuntieHoho.
