  • Requested feature

I love the app, changed the way I view data. But I would only request one feature you add into the app and I would happy pay extra for it to not have to use multiple apps! The smart alarm feature that is in the whoop or sleep cycles app where you are woken up during your lightest sleep close to your wake up time.

I hate having to use multiple apps when this is better than all of them and the whoop but I have to because it misses this one feature

  • It's not perfect but.

I own a whoop and this is a cheapy fair high features alternative e ...

Absolutely! Here's a concise, engaging and humanized list highlighting the benefits of the Athletic app:

    ---

**Title**: Athletic: The Go-to Fitness App for Apple Watch Users

    1. **Competitive Alternative**: Athletic holds its own, even against the high-end WHOOP 4.0. Not as feature-packed, but it brings enough to the table to keep you informed and engaged.

    2. **Apple Watch Integration**: If you're already sporting an Apple Watch, Athletic is a no-brainer. The integration is seamless and takes your smartwatch to the next level.

    3. **Easy-to-Use**: With Athletic, no need for a degree in data analysis. It's user-friendly and data interpretation is mostly a breeze. It's fitness tracking made easy, the way it should be.

    4. **Affordable**: Who said good quality has to empty your pockets? Athletic gives you fantastic bang for your buck. It's proof that you don't need to break the bank to track your fitness effectively.

Bottom Line: Athletic is a solid, cost-effective fitness tracking app, especially for Apple Watch users. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone who's serious about keeping track of their fitness journey. No hesitation, just download and pay.

  • Hmm, my recovery index is changing multiple times a day

Despite prioritizing sleep and mindfulness my recovery is changing up to 10 times a day. It shows 80% at the wake up time and 40 minutes later 14%, then 70% and so on, jumping up and down multiple times. Love the app but recently it’s very annoying.

    Update:
Figured that the issue is that Oura Ring isn’t saving HRV samples to Health. Had to dig deep and create a custom Shortcut as a workaround.
Would be great to specify what other than Apple Watch sleep trackers can and can’t do. Not sure how I feel about spending my time to figure out all the nuances. However, the app is excellent and it’s clear that stated in the original review issue isn’t related to the app. As I fellow developer I can appreciate your work. Thank you

Thanks for your review but there are some steps you need to take to prevent this: For Recovery to be set after you wake up, make sure you are doing all of these… (1) wear your watch to bed and have Apple Watch or another app track your sleep (if you are using another app to track your sleep, make sure it’s saving samples to Apple Health, you can check by going to the Apple Health App then Browse then Sleep then scroll to the bottom and tap on Show All Data. You should have sleep samples there. (2) You also need to make sure you have had HRV during your sleep (or if you wake up and do a Mindfulness App Breathe Session to get HRV -note that this must occur prior to noon), and make sure that Prioritize Sleep or Mindfulness HRV is turned on in Athlytic’s Settings under Recovery Customization. (It’s turned on by default so would only be off if you turned it off). To verify you have had HRV during sleep go to to the Apple Health App (white icon with a heart) then Browse -> Heart -> -> HRV scroll to the bottom and tap on “Show All Data”, then review your HRV samples. (3) Because Apple writes continuous RHR during the day, Athlytic has a feature that will save 1 RHR from sleep so that Recovery won’t get updated throughout the day. Go to Settings then Recovery Customization and make sure that Enable Athlytic to Save Resting Heart Rates is enabled. Then go to the Settings App then Privacy and Security then Athlytic and make sure that Athlytic has the ability to WRITE Resting Heart Rate. (4) Finally go to Settings app on and then General then Background App Refresh and make sure you have Background App Refresh turned on at the top, and then also that Athlytic's switch turned on. (5) If you are using Apple Watch native sleep tracking, unlike some apps it doesn’t track sleep automatically, you need to turn on sleep mode and turn it off when you wake up (otherwise you might wake up and check your Recovery before the AW has saved your sleep data, so then once it does, Recovery would change). This has been my routine and seems to work well (1) I do have a sleep schedule set for everyday that is around the time i normally go to bed and wake up (2) if i go to bed earlier I will toggle sleep mode on, on my watch (3) as soon as I wake up in the am, which is usually before my sleep end/alarm time, I unlock my watch and turn off sleep mode - this part is key: after this you need to wait to see the notification that says “looks like you are up would you like to turn off this alarm?”, tap yes and your sleep will be set immediately. This has consistently worked for me counting my sleep correctly. Also to double check whether Athlytic is writing RHR samples from sleep, go to the Apple Health App then Browse then Heart then Resting Heart Rate, then scroll to the bottom and tap on show all data, you should have an Apple RHR sample as well as an Athlytic sample. *if Athlytic isn’t saving RHR samples into Apple Health, try going into settings -> Recovery Customization -> then Toggle Enable Athlytic to Save Resting Heart Rates off and on. -THIS SEEMS TO FIX THE PROBLEM OFTEN Also note that if you’ve turned one of these things on above it will not work until you sleep tonight and save and RHR tomorrow morning! If the problem seems to be that, even after all the above is checked, Athlytic still isn’t saving a RHR into Apple Health or you still cannot figure it out please let me know at athlytic@gmail.com. Once you have it figured out, please consider revising your review as they are important and I am a solo developer working on Athlytic. Thank you!
  • Great analytics

The app gives such great insight on when to recover, when to keep pushing, how your workout affected your body that day, and what you should do to keep going based on the set training intensity you select. I will say that some of the analytics can get a bit in the weeds if you’re not an athlete or a fitness professional. But it can still greatly help even for the everyday person. Especially love that it pairs so well with Apple Health/Fitness apps and the Apple Watch. I also went one step further and downloaded a food tracking app that works well with apple health; this then auto updates in the app and tells you where you stand with calories in versus calories out (low key my favorite feature, so useful). Also enjoy the sleep insight and how I sleep is calculated into what level of effort (or exertion) I should aim for that day. Overall great app and definitely going to keep my subscription going on it.

  • Must have for Performance Monitoring

If you are an Apple Watch owner and want to monitor recovery and performance you really should be using this app. I’ve been using it training for Trail Ultra’s for 12-18 months.

Athlytic intuitively does what it’s says it does, presents the data in an easy to read UI and Recovery metrics. This allows me to make training decisions based on the data and also based on feelings- after all training is a choice.

There have been continuous improvements and upgrades in the 12-18 months I’ve been using Athlytic. I’ve found the data to be much more granular. The best inclusion has been the addition of tags to record the things that may have affected Recovery- has really put into sharp focus the things that I should be avoiding and those that is should be including more.

    Highly reliable, definitely recommended.

  • Does most things well

I have been running this app side by side with both Welltory and AI Stress Monitor. Overall this is my favorite of the three. The analysis of sleep and recovery match the recovery that I feel, and I appreciate the exertion suggestions it provides My one complaint is that it doesn’t pick up heart rate from a heart rate chest strap in some applications. For me I ride Zwift with a chest strap, and because I don’t wear my Apple Watch it records zero exertion even though Strava and Apple Health record both the exercise event and the heart rate. Makes no sense to me and the developer has not provided an explanation.

Update: the developer contacted me and is helping me resolve my issue.

As in many things, Strava is the root of the issue. Strava does not play nice with Apple Health, and while Strava keeps raising prices and handling their PR in a very clumsy way, they can’t seem to sync with Apple.

Thanks for your review but this is a common issue with Strava...I cannot understand how a billion dollar company cannot figure out how to sync it's heart rate data to Apple Health? There are some workout arounds I would be happy to help you with. Please shoot me an email at athlytic@gmail.com. Given I can't really fix this issue that lies with Strava, please also consider revising your review. Thank you! Gary
  • Doesn’t read data, pointless having the app

Fantastic app when it works, which is hardly ever. Won’t read my indoor cycling rides and so thinks I’m just sitting on the couch.
Spoke to Gary the app developer who said I need to download and pay for another app for his app to work correctly!
And blamed it all on Strava, yet all my other HRV apps read my data fine..
    Great app otherwise..

Thanks for your review, but yes I cannot imagine why Strava can't figure out how to sync to Apple Health. I wish they would! Using another app or setting up a custom short cut to import the heart rate data is another option. Gary
  • Doesn’t track recovery from workouts well

Tried for several weeks hoping to monitor recovery, particularly from longer cycling sessions. Wasn’t intersted in doing the breathing exercises in wake-up so admittedly I wasn’t “following instructions” there. But when I get up at 5.30 already to go cycling I’m not going to get up even earlier to sit around doing mindfulness.

In one week after a harder medium distance session on a Wed then strength session Thursday and rest day Friday, it said I was 75%recovered in the Friday morning when my legs were still feeling fatigued, but only 45% in the Saturday after the full recovery day. Several other similar examples where Athlytic was very out of synch with what I felt was my ability to train.
Tracked my recovery from drinking sessions very well! 🤔
Oh, and after not wearing my Apple Watch for a week while in hospital after a crash, Athlytic seemed to still think it had RHR and HRV data for that period, which is obviously complete BS and was my trigger to cancel the subscription.
Overall I think it might be a good measure of general stress levels, but not athletic recovery.

Thanks for your review but given the complexity of Athlytic you really need to understand the app to get anything out of it and it sounds like you have some misunderstandings. For one you do not necessarily need to do a Mindfulness session every morning (I do not personally) but many users are turning on Afib History to get increased HRV which makes Recovery much more accurate than relying on only a few HRV per night. Note also that Recovery is derived from HRV and RHR only since a wearable cannot detect your muscle strain, so while after an intense workout your body may feel tired, if your Recovery is high, your CNS is signaling that it tolerated the training well with no obvious effects. I would be happy to discuss these issues with you...feel free to shoot me an email at athlytic@gmail.com. Once you understand the app a little more, please consider revising your review. Thanks! Gary
  • Fantastic app!

Really fantastic app, takes the info from Apple health and elevates it to a whole new level! The training data it provides quickly becomes part of a daily habit helping to make decisions around training based not just in how I feel but what the data says too, it’s helped me make changes to my sleep to improve quality and when I need to take it a bit easier in the gym! My only wish is for an Apple Watch complication to go straight to the workouts page so I can quickly start a workout from my clock face but it’s a minor issue! Great app from a great developer who keeps the app updated regularly with big updates.

  • Amazing!!!!

I have been using this app close to a year now and I absolutely love it! I tried WHOOP prior to using this and loved the additional data that it provided me, but had serious issues regarding data accuracy, customer service and the wearable itself. While using it I still wore my Apple Watch, so it felt redundant, but I had no idea that it tracked all of the same measurements I was just missing this app! Ever since downloading this app I feel so much more in tune with my own body and know how much I can push myself on any given day. I love data so having access to how my body is performing is a game changer for me!

The one thing I would love is the ability to change the sleep goal. I think mine is set at 7:30 per night and I would love to be able to change it to 8 hours or even more. (maybe i’m just missing a setting somewhere)
