  • My go-to app

This is my second review of Nitro, after several months of use. I had been using RAW Power as my primary editor for several years, so it was natural for me to jump to Nitro.

I loved it from the beginning. Nik knows his stuff when it comes to photo and editing apps. If I remember correctly, he headed the Apple team that developed ProRaw, and headed the development team for Aperture. Follow that with RAW Power and an impressive resumé exists.

I signed on as a Beta tester, and liked what I found well enough to give Nitro a 5-star review early on. Nik has been kind and responsive to my reports and suggestions. Nitro grows better with each revision.

So, I wholeheartedly report that Nitro deserves that 5-star rating and I repeat it here.

  • One of the best

New app from the developer of RAW Power. It leverages all the features from RAW Power and added the ability to compare images quickly and get more information about the metadata of my files. The masking function is excellent. The developer is responsive to support questions, and is constantly updating RAW file support, including Nikon HE compression format. 5-star!

  • Amazing app!

Love it, love it. This is so powerful and easy to use, I can't believe it. Works seemlessly with my MacBook pro, and really beats a lot of other photo editors such as Affinity, DXO PhotoLab, and On1 Photo Raw.
  • Hope for fixes

Look, I am paying monthly subscription. I give it 3 stars because I hope to see it fixed. I sort hundred/thousands of raw Fuji photos at a time. This app is exactly what I want to do this on my iPad mini 6. Unfortunately though as soon as I select large numbers of photos it crashes. Even if all I want to do is deleted a bundle of let’s say 500 jpegs in one go it crashes. I hop that this bug will be corrected so I can used it for my needs in the near future. At the moment it’s not much good for me. Cheers.

    Developer Response

Hi, I'm sorry the app is crashing like that. Please contact support@gentlemencoders.com and I can help you.
  • These guys know their stuff

Nitro is a pro app, and it's engineers know a thing or two about photography. It's worth your time.
  • Easily my favourite app for my photography

    Super helpful dev too
  • Highly recommended

I have been a happy user of Raw Power for several years. So, when Nik announced Nitro, I bought it immediately and signed on to be a beta tester. This gave me a chance to see up close the development and fine tuning of a top-drawer editing app. I tested hard and was able to find some flaws at first, but Nik is expert and responsive to suggestions and quick to fix any flaws I found. This app is going places. Take my advice. Get this app. You will be glad you did.

  • Great feature set. Significant leap over the basic Photos app.

In fact, much clearer to navigate than the competition, such as Darkroom. Much prefer Nitro. I’ve mostly used the iOS version, but I’ve dabbled on the Mac version as well. Will update my review as I work more on Mac in the future. I’m looking for a good alternative to Lightroom, and although I’ve always gone back to Adobe when I venture away from it, I think this time Nitro may finally give me what I need. Lightroom is still WAY more feature rich, but I don’t need it all.

  • Denning

After Nitro Photo’s 7 day free trial, I decided to subscribe to Nitro Photo (rather than pay once only for a lifetime membership). I always choose subscription over pay once as it is a guarantee that I will get an application that is well maintained and consistently developed - developers know that customers can cancel subscriptions any time if their applications lose their important competitive edge. I have a few favourites in Nitro. The first is the 'depth' feature as I'm am an iOS photographer and often shoot in portrait. With ‘Depth’ I can edit the background and the foreground that perfectly suits my portraits. ‘Depth' is a feature in Nitro Photo that is easy to use with several major adjustments. The second favourite I now have is Nitro’s digital assets management. It cannot be faulted. It gives me ability to select my best shots and discard my worst. It’s super fast and intuitive. Nitro's interface, its manual and its roadmap provide all the help and information I want and need to make editing for me smooth and productive. This editing application is inexpensive for such a comprehensive and powerful editor.

  • Terrific Photo editor!

This is a great photo app at a bargain price.

It's particularly good for those of us who want to manage their pictures in Apple Photos and retain all the benefits of syncing via iCloud but want finer control of editing etc. No other app seems to integrate so fully and seamlessly with Photos.

It also has RAW support for cameras that Photos doesn't or at least that Apple hasn't added yet.

A one-off payment gets you a perpetual license on all platforms: Mac, iOS and iPadOS.

Support is also first class with with a good forum plus one-to-one contact from the developer if needed.
