  • Already Subscribed, But Features Aren’t Working

I’m already subscribed, but the subscribe pop-up keeps on showing when I press the shapes button. When I click subscribe, it says already subscribed, but I still can’t use the feature. Nothing happens when I click restore purchase. Oh, and I bought the ESV too, that shows I really want to use this app. Now my morning study is interrupted because of this. Unfortunate. [Update 1]: Now I cancelled the “free trial” subscription, because… it literally does not give me anything. If this doesn’t get fixed, please give me a refund for my ESV purchase. Thank you. [Update 2]: Still no good. I want to hang on. [Update 3]: The generous owner and creator made a way to fix ALL the issues. If you’re looking for a minimalistic Bible journaling app, THIS is what you’re looking for.

  • Apple Pencil still does not work

    The purpose of
Bible JOURNALING is being about to JOURNAL. How are we to JOURNAL without use of pens and pencils. I have to use my finger to click EVERYTHING and to note take. I have been patient it’s been 7 months of paying for something with terrible functionality. This needs MAJOR UPGRADES. WE need to be able to write with the Apple Pencil, use it to select tools, select EVERYTHING on this app should be capable of selecting with the Pencil not fingers and maybe the Pencil will work today. I saw an email talking about so many “fixes” and “decreased revenue or funding from lack of purchases” but all of the same issues from 7months ago are present. This is why. This needs to improve or stop charging until you get something worth charging, this currently IS NOT worth any amount as is. Please make fixes to use this NORMALLY NO FINGERS, ALL PENCIL everything your finger does should also be able with the Pencil.

Update - Hi - still no response? Did you update the app? Please email erin@pencilbible.com 😄 Hi, appreciate your detailed review, but you can't use your finger to draw etc. It's impossible. You must still be on the old version? It only works with an Apple Pencil on Version 2 🤷‍♂️ Did you download V2 of PB? It was released in March 2023? Please email me erin@pencilbible.com and I will help you in any way I can. And if you're still not happy would gladly give a refund 😊 P.S. If the update works for you please be so kind give the app a re-review.
  • “It will Improve”

What the others said: I want a bible to write on. I have great hopes for this one. It’s what I’m looking for! 😃 I’m going to subscribe with faith that you will be adding these things I believe you said was your intention: Straight lines Text Support Works better with the pencil gestures Rejects the palm This app has a great start.

Update on Version 2. This developer is wonderful. The responses are quick and you can see the heart in this venture. We’re all wanting a bible to write on and it keeps getting better. The criticisms are not being ignored. Keep the faith. It’s not easy getting to all the things we want to see done in this, the ONLY pencil writing bible I see on the App Store.

    Thank you!

  • I miss the first version.

I loved the first version. So much, that I purchased it! I was so excited to not have the advertisement popping up every few minutes, however, a few weeks later version 2.0 came out and I miss the first version. I loved that I had a pencil, a pen and a highlighter in the first version. I would toggle between the 3 to get different effects as I was journaling. I also miss the rounded edges that the highlighter used to have. I now have to white out the edges of each line (being careful not to erase the Bible) to make it look neat. I would love for these things from version one to brought back. They made my journaling much more enjoyable.

Some additions that would be great would be an option to chose between an eraser that erases the entire line you wrote and an eraser that just erases the part of the line touched while erasing (like how an eraser in real life works). Another wonderful addition would be the ability to add photos from my iPad library to the journal.

Hi - thanks for the detailed review 😀 - we are working on/already implemented all your requests 😮 - The amount of drawing tools you know have is more than on V1. You have 6 that are customizable in size, transparency and color 🎉 - Rounding will be fixed before end of July - Popups are being removed for a new subscription model soon - Pixel eraser is in the works - Photos as well I hope this helps. • Not there yet

I am excited about this apps potential. I’ve been on the lookout for years to find an app for my iPad that I can write on just like I do with my paper Bible. While I’m thankful that this is being developed, it’s not at a place where I can actually use it as a functioning Bible. Here are some of the top reasons why:
    1. I use the nkjv and it does not have that yet. I’m looking forward to when it arrives
    2. I need to be able to turn the pages just like I do with my paper Bible. As it stands, we only get a chapter at a time and then I need to go back to the menu and load the next chapter. This will never work for me. For a good reference of what the perfect app is for this, see the “olive tree” Bible app. The pages turn just like paper. No going to a menu just to go to the next verse. I suspect this is not possible because under the hood it’s really just reading in a pdf. I could be wrong though.
Add this functionality and that would be glorious!

Hi - thanks so much! Yes you can - Swipe up and down and you can turn the pages! Send as email if you can't get it to swipe pages :) support@pencilbible.com Update: Hi :) - so did you figure out page swiping? Also if you did would you mind revising your review?
  • A little disappointed

I was so excited to use this app and it has some amazing features. But every couple of days all of my notes and journal entries are deleted. So using it feels a bit pointless. I’m more disappointed that I paid $8.99 for the esv Bible in the trial time and will not have access to that Bible after trial is done.

I really hope you can get this issue figured out. I read of other people having same problem. I refuse to spend $25 annually right now if all my notes are not going to be there in a day or two.

But the ideas of what you’re doing is great!! That is why I gave 3 stars instead of 1 star. I love this and it’s a great start but these bugs need to get fixed before I will put any more money in.

Hi - all is fixed :) Please adjust the rating if you would be so kind. Thanks for all the feedback. P.S. Let me know if you need anything else. Update: Hi - did you get it to work?
  • Patiently waiting with grace

I really love this app. In fact the only reason I had to give it a 4 star instead of 5 is because the pencil doesn’t work. I do know most of not all those bugs will be fixed in the new version, so I’m waiting patiently. This app really does have potential and I can’t wait when it reaches it’s full. I’m waiting patiently and extremely excited!

  • Come on people.

There are some complains about the app, I tried it and it’s good but come on. Just buy or download the bible version you want on PDF and upload it to GoodNotes. You don’t have to pay for subscription and you save money like this. And good notes is a very reliable and will be old app.

I have to say though that the builders of this app did a great job on the interface.

  • Beautiful - Lots of potential!

I have been searching for an app where I could have my Bible and note taking ability all in one place. I’m so happy I stumbled upon Pencil Bible!

    Pros:
    - You can choose your preferred Bible version, which is super key for me as I only read KJV
    - The layout is sleek and appealing to the eye
    - App is EXTREMELY user friendly
    - Tons of colors and different writing options in the toolbar
    - You can choose the font size, spacing, complete layout of your Bible, and even customize your very own Bible name!

    Cons:
    - You can’t scroll without exiting the tool bar. This is not a deal breaker for me, but does add an extra, unnecessary step.
    - I thought my pencil was dying, because the writing was very blotchy. At times the letters were smooth, and other times half of the letters wouldn’t appear. It’s almost as if there is a weird connection between the pencil and the iPad itself.
    - Truly can’t think of any others.. I really like this app!

All of that to say.. I’m giving 3 stars!
I think this app is incredible and has a tremendous amount of potential. I will continue to check updates as I look forward to using this app in church and just my everyday Bible reading and note taking.

What do you think of version 2.0?
  • Needs a lot of work

It is a great concept and idea but it does not work very well. The writing detection is very choppy and no where near smooth. Really want this to be a good app but as of now it really is not. It is an amazing idea, please put in the work and updates to improve it.
