  • Used to like but now it won't work

I have been using this bible app for a little while. At first it was great but then the glitches started. While writing in my Bible I started having a hard time with my writing not showing up. Then I started having issues while writing what I was being told to write down the app would completely shut down. At first I thought it was because I needed an update but that wasn’t the case. Then I thought if I bought the app that would work but, I cant even purchase the app. Now the app will only show the screen to pay (which I have tried multiple times, quadruple times). I am in a huge dilemma because I want to use this app but now I can’t even use the app. I hope you fix your glitches soon and I will purchase this app and give it a better review. I pray that God will reveal the problem and that the light will shine upon your app for others to grow in his word. Amen!

What do you think of version 2.0? Anything more we could do? Would you mind revising your review? Thanks! Update: If you need support just email support@pencilbible.com
  • Landscape

Only downside I have encounter it that app needs to function in landscape mode and additional translations, such as NIV. Otherwise, I’m enjoying the app.
  • the idea is great but there is a bug

I really liked this app. I wanted to use my iPad as a bible for ease of use and traveling but whenever i return to chapters that i knew i had made highlights and notes on, it is gone. this happens every time i open the app. I thought it was only the most recent chapters that would disappear but no, i marked up genesis 1:1 to try the app out a few weeks ago and went back to check today and all my notes are gone. I wish this wasn’t the case, because the rest of the app is 10/10. I’m sad this didn’t work out, this is the only app i could find that lets me make notes the way i want.

Version 2.0 is much better. All your problems solved. Please be so kind and do a re-review?
  • Thank you! Keep the updates coming!

Update: Changing my review from 4 to 2 stars. While this app has so much promise, the writing feature is pretty terrible. It is very glitchy when I write with the Apple Pencil, and it doesn’t capture a lot of what I’m writing, or it becomes distorted. This makes the app almost unusable for me, as I was hoping to use it to write notes. I will keep watching for future updates.

Thank you so much for creating this app! I have been looking for something like this for years. I don’t love writing in my physical Bible, so this format is perfect. I love the promise that this app offers, and would love to see the following updates. Some might already be in the works…
    — Allow landscape functionality
    — Allow split view
    — Ability to add a blank page before or after a page
    — Create an iPhone app that at least provides “view only” capabilities. I use GoodNotes regularly, and I love the ability to pull up files on my iPad and iPhone because I don’t always carry my iPad.
    — Ability to create a file/project with just a portion of the Bible. For example, if I am doing a study on a particular book, I can save a version with just that book. This would help reduce file size.

I have just started using the app, so I will update this review as I continue to use it.

  • Nice, but missing some options

I would love to see an option to put each verse on a separate line. Just makes it easier to read and follow along.

Would also like to see a red letter option as well.
  • Has a lot of potential, just needs a few tweaks.

I was super excited to find this app in the store, and also excited to use my Apple Pencil to take notes and mark up verses. I love the layout, but 2 major problems I’ve noticed within a day of using it:

    1. When I’m writing something on screen it lags. Initially I thought this was lag from my apple pencil, but after testing it on other apps I realized it only lagged on this app, which makes taking notes more frustrating, that and I can’t put any part of my hand on the screen without basically scribbling over the page unintentionally.

    2. Scrolling only being allowed when the tab with the writing tools is down is annoying…it’s not such a nuisance that I wouldn’t use the app, but constantly swiping down, scrolling, then clicking the tool icon on the edge of the screen seems unnecessary. I think allowing users to scroll with the tab up would improve the experience.

Other than that I like the app over all and I hope the creators improve on it to make it even better.

  • Clumsy and Paywalls make this App useless.

I downloaded this app to try during church. Only to get a screen telling me to "upgrade" to a premium subscription if I wanted to use the app without internet. I tried to experiment with the writing tools and they were ether blocked behind the paywall or so clumsy they weren't worth the effort. Just split screen goodnotes 5 and a bible app. They want you to pay 9$ for the ESV translation as well, their only options for free translations are the ones that no one uses anymore. I would have been willing to pay $10 or $20 for a good app, it's a great idea! But there absolutely no way I'm paying for a subscription. Stupid.

  • Promising

If this app improves the writing and Apple Pencil functionality as well as palm rejection it will be perfect. Sometimes letters don't write correctly and writing with apple is pail very buggy sometimes
  • Almost there

I’d buy in a heartbeat if these two things happen:
-Palm Rejection (I believe it’s coming)
-Addition of NASB 95 or LSB translation.

Those are really the only two things keeping me from using this app for all of my bible note taking. Great work overall though developer! I believe this app has a bright future.

  • So close

So I’m giving this app 5 stars because I haven’t seen anything like it and I think this style is something that is sorely needed. Interface is nice, and looks promising. So, my review is more so to support the idea rather than the current app. I didn’t get past the first few screens simply because there aren’t enough translations. Paying for ESV even is tough to swallow as I can get free versions in so many different apps. Other versions are free but not ESV… Why not have more translations and give the first one free to user? The easier it is for someone to use the more likely they’ll stick with it. Again, best of luck, looks promising and with the right marketing and pricing this will blow up!

Awesome CL51789. I love the feedback. To answer your questions. Translations are owned by Publishers. Each one a different publisher. 1. It is very hard to get into contact with these publishers. If you get hold of the right people then you have to convince them to give you the translation. 2. Once that is sorted you sign a contract. Each publisher has different terms. 3. These terms involve payments. Nothing is free you see. 4. Developing Pencil Bible is also not free. I think you get the idea. Once Pencil Bible is at a certain standard and tipping point we will definitely try to make translations free as the publishers allow us too. We are busy signing contracts with CSB, NIV and TPT. Still struggling to get a reply from the NLT. I hope you understand. I cannot thank you enough for your 5 stars! Keep in touch (erin@pencilbible.com). We will only get better as time goes. Kind regards Erin
