  • Could be amazing

I got an IPad a few months ago and was excited to have a digital notebook to take with me on the go. I good Good notes that I put my church sermons on and other notes to take. I have the Bible app but that is great for a phone. I have an Apple Pencil and want to write in a bible. Saw this app and immediately downloaded it. Got in and was disappointed in the Bible versions you all have. Writing with my Apple Pencil is annoying cause it doesn’t ignore my palm when I’m writing or my fingers if i want to scroll or anything it starts writings again. Like everyone else I’ve seen “coming soon” many times but nothing seems like a real change. I haven’t touched or used the app cause its just not working with the “vision” you all had. I’ve been to your website and see more versions are coming but they been coming for a while. I want some sort of update on what we are expecting or going to be getting and when. I want to love this app but till things are fixed and more options than I’m going back to my actual bible I’ll check back later.

  • Almost there…

Downloaded this app with lots of excitement since there do not appear to be many options for Bible apps that allow you freely highlight and annotate. However, after two weeks of using this app, I’ll be deleting it for the foreseeable future.

I read lots of reviews prior to downloading and the frequent developer response was that updates were coming and the bugs/glitches had been resolved; however, those responses were 3-6 months ago and it seems I’m still encountering those same issues. Most disappointing is how the app hasn’t saved my notes and highlights. I was 29 chapters into Genesis with marks on every one, and it has only saved 3 of those chapters. The “snap” feature for straight lines, better Apple Pencil compatibility, and ability to purchase the app for a 1x fee have all been mentioned in other reviews that I also agree with.

Feels like it just makes more sense to highlight my paper Bible for now. I’ll check back in a few months and see if any progress has been made…

  • Bad news for Lefties

Just discovered this app and I really want to love it but it’s impossible to draw and write with my left hand pressed down on screen because it thinks the side of my hand is drawing as well. I have the free trail version and I’ll see if there’s a work around for this issue but if not I’ll have to see if I want to keep it.

This app is so exciting. I have been looking for this for a long time. Thank you so much! I use my iPad for preaching. Several options would be great- the ability to pick verse or paragraph layout, pick font size.
  • This could be a amazing app

I think this has the potential to be a amazing Bible journaling app, but I think there are a few features that are missing. 1. It needs Text support because not everybody likes their handwriting and there’s so many fonts that you can choose from. 2. I think it needs the ability for the highlighter or pens to make straight lines. If you just hold at the end of your line and snap straight if that makes any sense, I’m a little OCD, and if my lines are not straight, it bothers me I know it may not bother a lot of people. 3. being able to add images, so that way we can make it cuter in away if we want and with that add a cropping feature with the images so that way if we do need to crop we can. or even have a sticker section so that way we can save some of our images as stickers so that way we don’t have to import every time. 4. adding landscape mode, because not everybody holds their iPad in portrait mode.

Hi - so version 2.0 is much better. What do you think? 5/5? :)
  • Love the idea but…

Love the idea but there are a couple of issues. 1st there is only one Bible version to upgrade to, but I can live with that. The major issue is the pop ups trying to get me to upgrade very few minutes. Do you actually think that you can aggravate me into upgrading?
  • Writing

I love this app and it’s features, however, like most others have commented, the writing feature makes the app almost unusable. I would absolutely utilize this map again if the writing feature is updated. Thank you :)
  • So much potential

I love and have been wanting a journaling Bible for the iPad, and I have high hopes that this app can be someone’s primary study tool. I don’t use it on the regular right now because there are some bugs that make the app less intuitive for me:

1: no landscape mode. I use my iPad for college notes and I write in landscape all the time, so I think it would make writing in this app easier

2: no palm rejection. When I write in this app, I find that my lines jitter because it isn’t rejecting my palm well. I think this is partially due to me having half my palm on the screen because of writing on the iPad vertically and not landscape, so my palm being half-registered.

3: tap gestures. Again, I am so used to notability and good notes where I can two-finger tap to undo, and three-finger tap to redo, that it would be great if I could have that same experience. Although this isn’t that much of a problem, it would be nice to see that in the future.

  • Amazed

Update - the developer had issues fixed within 48 hours and an update ready for me to be able to use the app to its full potential. I LOVE THIS APP

Updated: I changed from 1 star to 4, skipping the customization works but it would be easier to read if I could adjust the font spacing etc. I was very excited about this app and have been trying to customize it for legitimately hours. You don’t have to customize your bible before use, but during this setup process it gets stuck on the same step for at least 5 minutes and then force closes and you have to start all over.

Thanks :) I'm so sorry. All the bugs are fixed now. Please download the latest version. And if anymore issues email erin@pencilbible.com P.S. Thanks for the 5 stars. I appreciate it.
  • Pencil not working at all

I’m using the new 12.9" M2 iPad Pro with iPadOS 16.1 and Gen 2 Apple Pencil, and this app doesn’t accept any input from my pencil at all.

UPDATE: I do not accept the dev’s reply that this is an Apple problem that drawing apps at large are facing. No other drawing app I have installed has this issue. Just acknowledge that you haven’t updated for M2 iPads yet, instead of trying to blame Apple.
