  • Great App but needs work.

I do like this app and it’s been very helpful for plowing through academic literature. I’m a PhD student and can’t seem to get through the literature fast enough and this has helped a lot. But there are some minor issues. For one, I have some transcriptions end up as “interspeciWic trade-oVs”. It seems when F and I appear together, a W appears in their place. If F and F appear together, a V appears.

This is a relatively young app, but I’d like to see options for changing the voice from masculine to feminine and options for dark mode and maybe even voice commands.

Otherwise very happy with the app and excited for the future :)

  • Frequently misreads papers

I’ve been using this in a free trial, but will not be paying for it. To test its accuracy, I got the app to read a paper to me whilst I read an original copy of the paper along side it. The results: the app frequently mis-reads words and missed out entire sentences. Such a shame as this is a fantastic idea, I just wish the implementation was more robust.

  • Sometimes jumbles paragraphs/lines

Overall this app is pretty good. I’ve tried a couple of similar apps and the voices sounded really robotic, but this is very easy to listen to and I find I can pay attention like a proper recorded audiobook. The ability to easily report pronunciation errors is also great. It won’t fix it straight away, but over time the app will get better.

The main problem I’m having is it sometimes jumps around and becomes nonsensical. Seems like when it has scanned the page it’s jumbled the order of some of the lines. It also has trouble handling figures and tables smoothly, but I’ve checked the pdf and sometimes there isn’t anything that would account for the confusion in line order.

  • Can’t even test it without a subscription

There’s absolutely no way to try it before you pay for a subscription. Lots of flashy advertising for this app online, but I can’t verify if it actually does a good job until I fork over some money. They should allow you to read like 5 papers to test it before you commit. I’m guessing the product isn’t very good if they don’t let you test it first. Also there’s no indication that you need to pay until you enter your email. This app is probably a data farm. Deleted immediately and don’t recommend.

  • Maybe the worst AI reader ever?

Was so looking forward to this being awesome but it is terrible! It reads the markup code and the embedded keywords in a PDF. The files also take a long time to upload. It's a waste of time. Not worth the subscription price.
  • This app is a MUST for anyone in academics

I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks and I’m already sold. I’m in grad school at the moment and almost all of our reading are academic articles. It takes me ages to get through them every week and by the end it feels like my eyes are going to fall out of my head.

This solves all of that. The UI is simple and easy to use, and the voice is great. My apartment is actually clean for the first time in ages cause I can tidy up while working. I can also play games while listening, or commute while listening.

If you’re a student and you feel overwhelmed like you don’t have enough time for everything in your life PLEASE at least try the free trial. This thing is a real game changer

  • En français s’il vous plaît!!

    Merci! :)
  • Really handy for taking walking breaks

Nonstop screen reading can reduce my ability to actually take in papers so being able to listen on walking breaks is hugely helpful.

The reading voice is clear and intonation varies appropriately, which is nice.

Some suggestions for improvements would be to be able to categorise papers according to folders. To view year of publication easily. To then view all notes made from each paper as a single table (helps synthesis) with associated keywords to help organise notes according to concepts.

To be able to record audio notes for each paper this can help with quick thinking.

    Overall, a very handy app!

  • Looking forward to future updates

The app is simple to use. It does pretty much extractor as advertised. I work in radiation oncology, and so I listen to papers on my long commute to work. It fills the time well. But, there are gaps n the computer’s reading ability. Roman numerals are a particularly noticeable problem (“World War Aye Aye.” “Phase Aye Aye Aye study.” There are some words that are unexpectedly read quite poorly, but overall it is a humerus gaff that doesn’t interfere with my ability to understand. I’m looking forward to improvements, but I am very happy I bought this.

  • Amazing!

This is my new favourite app! Uploading pdfs is so easy on the phone and the narration sounds very natural! Perfect for listening to academic papers (or any other texts) - so convenient and saves so much time!
