  • Jumbling words

As a grad student I was so excited to find this app. Unfortunately, the PDF loaded into the app with no spaces between the words so the automated voice just jumbled all the words together and it didn’t work out. I’d be very interested in this app if it worked properly. I was using the app on my iPhone. While this may not do this on the desktop, that option wouldn’t be worth a subscription to me as I wanted a way to listen to my papers without being tied to my desk. Great idea, just needs a little work.

  • Doesn’t Upload Correctly

Cannot read pdfs with text in columns :( It skips whole chunks of text and will jump to the middle of a random paragraph instead of going back to the top of the next column when you reach the end of the page. Tried uploading in multiple formats and ways and never got it to work.
  • Alright App Overpriced

This app is basically not different from anyother text to speech apps. Way overpromised, their website froze when try to login, same happen in app. Overall alright not worth $99/year.
  • Good for migraine sufferers

I started using this app to help me with grading student assignments because I get bad migraines. I just upload their pdfs and listen to them while reading along on to grade on a paper copy, then I can enter comments and grades later. I normally get migraines every semester when grading but this has saved my brain. Also helpful with literature reviews. The only criticism I have is I wish there were different voice options.

  • Doesn’t read pdfs well

More often than not the pdfs that I have uploaded are read very incorrectly. It’ll weird mistakes too. Like it just skipped on line of text or even just a few words!! I makes things actually triply confusing! It also sometimes joins all the words in a sentence into one and then I feel like my head is going to explode. Save your money, I’m sure the tech will get better in the next few years but right now do not buy

  • Great start, looking forward to updates.

It’s remarkably easy to understand and it is able to dissect PDF’s in an intuitive way. It feels like there are many small tweaks that would improve things a lot. For example setting a timer to end at each chapter. I also find the transition from one section to another to be too abrupt and sometimes I’ve started the next section without realizing. In the section where all titles are listed it would be nice to see overall length and progress. I also had connectivity issues during a drive in the mountains and I realized the app is essentially streaming so it stopped. A download function for flights and hikes would be great. I have subscribed for the long term, hoping to see some of these features.

  • Really handy but scope for improvement

This is a really useful app and I am enjoying it but there are some issues that I hope the team look into, namely:

    1) all of the AI voices seem to be male - some diversity here would be good (I may have missed this option)

    2) the file tagging isn’t very smooth or efficient - it would be good if the system remembered tag titles and colours for applying to other files.

    3) Having the option to organise files into folders would also be useful

    4) The AI voice has been pretty good in my experience but does occasionally mispronounce scientific and technical terms. The advertisement says this is easily remedied but there isn’t an easy flagging system other than emailing them.

    5) The conversion occasionally misses lines or creates odd sentence structure - possibly due to positioning in the PDF? I have noticed this most around changes in page and column.

  • Not worth it

Love the idea but quickly realised it takes FAAAAAAR longer than 5 minutes to upload your pdfs. Cancelled my membership right away and was not even able to continue til the trial period was over, so probably the same if you cancel membership mid month.
  • A work in progress

Overall, it’s a useful app in that skipping the citations makes for a great listening experience. The voice is very easy to listen to. Things that need work include differentiating in-text citations from other text in parentheses, clumping words together making the pronunciation quite awful and unnatural at times, identifying and categorizing sections and subsections of the article, and reading subtitles as part of a sentence which creates confusion for the listener. I would say significant beta testing is needed.

  • Maybe worth the price one day

This is probably going to be a great app but right now it is not worth the price. Also, while the voice is good, it is only male. Other issues: iPad app not configured for iPad.
