  • Trash 🗑

This app used to be great and then you did the last UI overhaul and made it worse; now you’ve redone the UI again and made it worse than the last UI update. All my saved articles are gone, the score for reviewed games are gone, every time I hit the back button it starts me at the beginning of the newsfeed instead of where I was at which means I have to constantly scroll past the articles I wasnt interest in just to get to where I was, and the search bar is gone which means I can’t even search for a specific thing like reviews, walkthroughs, gameplay etc. The comments in-app are filled with people who are dissatisfied by this update! Considering most of us gamers feel ignored by designers and publishers, it’s kind of crappy that this app would choose to ignore us also when it used to be the Bible of Gamerdom.

  • Questionable Choices

I would assume the omission of Dark Mode was an oversight that will be corrected, but the loss of a “Sharing”option seems like a complete mistake.

I don’t mind the new card system, in fact, the format seems kind of cool. I get the redesign, but the two above issues seem problematic to me.

Loss of “Dark Mode” makes me not want to open the app and no sharing options seems to only stand to hurt you guys, in that, you’ll see less views if we can’t share your stories. Looking forward to the next update that I assume will fox these issues.

  • Latest Update Ruined the App - Made me delete the app

I used to view this app daily and now the latest update has completely the experience. The app is now bright white and blinds you when you open the app. How is there zero “Dark Mode” implementation? The app takes back to the start of the feed every time you go back from an article. If you enjoy always having to scroll back down to get back to where you left off, you will enjoy this. The update also made me lose all of my saved content and now there is not an easy way to get to game wikis. The latest update forced me to make the decision to remove the app entirely since it is now so difficult to use.

  • Newest Update is a big step back

I love IGN, its employees, and their content. I’ve been using the IGN app daily for years. It has never been perfect, but this newest 6.0 update is quite bad. First, I lost all the earmarked articles and videos I had saved. Not a big deal, but a bit annoying. Second, either the articles under “Latest” are not in chronological order or the time stamps for the articles are very off. Third, the thumbnails are - for the most part - very low quality. As if they had not fully loaded in. Last, it is hard to figure out what is a video and what is an article before you click on it. When you do get to a video, playing it, going full screen, etc seems quite laborious.

I’m all for changing artistic directions, and I do like the cleaner aesthetic, but there are some glaring issues that need to be addressed. Thanks for all you do, IGN!

    Developer Response

Thank you for the feedback and support. We're working hard on lots of this stuff. Check out our product blog at corp.ign.com/product for more info.
  • New Update Sleeker but less Friendly

The new updated format of the IGN app gives users less options when navigating. The Latest section is now much more limited, forcing users to go to the more specific categories to find older news. If you go to an article it’ll bring you back to the top of the feed so if you were trying to catch up on the news you gotta go back down again to find where you were. If you are listening to something the app will try to play a video, knocking out what you were listening to so it clashes with multitasking. Overall it feels like they focused on the look but sacrificed a lot of functions for it.

  • Newest version 6.0 not good

I love IGN and their content but this new app update is not good. It makes the pictures for different articles look horrible, super low-res. I thought maybe it was because of the new “use less data” mode, it was not. Also, any article you click, whether it has a video or not, it auto plays a video and if there is no video it auto plays a black screen. I’m someone who prefers to read the articles as opposed to watching videos, so this update seems to shift away from my preference. Last thing that’s bugging me is the scrolling seems a lot less responsive and feels “heavy” compared to before the update and most other apps.
I think this update could have used more time in the oven! Hopefully this gets some improvement updates soon!

  • Regularly freezes and then crashes

I honestly don’t know why I keep using this app. As others have mentioned, this app has been buggy for years. With every update I hope they’ll finally figure it out, but it never stays better for very long. Use the app for a few mins and it’ll eventually freeze and no longer take input. The app regularly stutters as if it’s having framerate issues (on an iPhone 11 Pro Max no less). Often the app just crashes back to the Home Screen after some scrolling. They finally fixed the bug where scrolling randomly activates ads and opens Safari, though I’ve seen that bug get reintroduced several times as well. The app is simply a hot mess. I love IGN, but you’re better off using Safari and just visiting the website.

  • Whats with the ads all of a sudden?

Ive been using this app for years. Since probably 5 years ago actually. Ive never once had an issue with anything noteworthy, but the last 2 or 3 days, any time i scroll past a Starz ad, it immediately opens my browser and the Starz website. Ive been on this phone for about 6 months & thats never happened before, all of my other apps function as they have for the entirety of my time using them on this phone (excluding updates) but its getting insanely irritating having 5+ Starz ads opening anytime i try to get my daily entertainment news. Im unsure if anyone else is experiencing this, but its starting to make me consider either getting an ad blocker or dropping the app. And im not going to pay for an ad blocker on my phone, so it looks like IGN’s gonna get uninstalled soon if the ads dont stop. I feel like im in the season of South Park with the living ads or something

  • Dark mode is terrible

I love using this app, it has (unfortunately) used a lot of my time because I like the stories and pretty much everything on it. However, there was a recent update that added dark mode... and it’s bad. First of all, not everything is dark. Some of the headers are still white so it is inconsistent with the rest of the app. Second, the text color has almost no contrast so when viewed on a dark background, it is unreadable. In light mode it works fine, but dark mode makes the app basically useless.

Please change the color of the text to white or at least a lighter grey so that I can read the great content that you guys put out.

  • SJW’s

They used to just be about gaming. Now they are SJW’s that have a political agenda they want to impose on us. No thanks. Also, their ability to review games honestly has been affected by this as well. Now, if you’re a white male protagonist in a game it makes the game bad according to them. A.k.a Days Gone. Remember when there was a debate as to whether games were a form or art and expression? I do. Now days these brainwashed soy latte drinking SJW’s are trying to tell you how you should think and feel about politics and if you don’t agree with them then you’re in the wrong. The Nazi party did this to its citizens but yet I’m the proverbial racist white Nazi male just because I’m a free thinker? #iamawake. You guys are asleep and lack true compassion for humanity. True journalism is all but dead. They don't feed you the truth, they feed their political communistic agenda.
