Over the past few months I have made two reservations almost two weeks in advance only for it to be cancelled two days prior to collection. Same reasons given in both times that the vehicle has became “unavailable” and there is no other vehicles near-by available. It has caused me major conveniences because I needed the vehicle for a home move. Both times I ended up spending more money elsewhere to rent another vehicle. Feels like Zipcar is practically useless for me. I wrote a complaint and requested for them to remove my data and delete my account, more than a week has passed and I’ve not had a reply. Clearly dealing with robots as there’s no real humanly reply to resolve an issue (poor customer service and poor service in general). I have used Zipcar many years ago and found them to be ok but now is just not worth it anymore.

Probable Scam

They encourage you to sign up and ask for payment information and then reject your application and still charge you a membership fee. Later when I called they said it was processing fee. They charged it as a membership fee and never it’s for the application processing. They didn’t say it will be non refundable I would not have applied. I’m worried that they still have my information.

Unprofessional

I have used zip car for almost 1 year . Out of nowhere I parked in one place that I was always parking and got a fine ( even there were 10 more cars parked and non got a fine ) . Everything was ok when after 2 months I get a message that zip-car tries to take 145£ from my account . I contacted costumer service and this lady answered like she just woke up and after I told her the situation her answer was : you need to pay because the fine came to us and we have paid , but the last that drive the car that day was you . First , in that place on the map was green to park ( if was red you were not aloud to park because the app makes a noise and you can finish the ride ) ,second the maximum amount of money for parking and taking a fine there would be 30£ not 145 £ . When I told this to the lady she said “I am not in charge with this “ and gave me an email ,that nobody never answered .
Nobody came back to me and now I cannot drive zipcar anymore because of one unprofessional woman that doesn’t know how to do her job . Working with people is very difficult I understand but I will not pay for other or with extra charge for nothing . The guy or woman that came after me just put the paper in the bin . I didnt received nothing on my name and on the police site was shown that the fine was 30£ .
I would’ve pay that amount of money with no problem but you charge me 145£ just because . Very disappointed !!!!!!!

They cancelled my membership after paying £10

I paid £10 (was deducted from my bank account) to open the account. Only 2 days after my account got verified, I tried to make a booking. First time, the app encountered an error when I was paying. Second time, the booking was successful. However, a few hours later I got notified that my booking was cancelled because they need to cancel my membership and close my account. Zipcar said I violate their memberships rules. However, I haven’t even made a single successful booking nor driven a Zipcar before so I am 100% sure I did not violate anything, it is impossible. I called them, they said I should reply the email and ask for help. I replied the email asking which rule I have violated, got no explanation but being told that the decision was made by management and was final. I was left clueless and furious. This happen to my friend as well, so I will NOT RECOMMEND Zipcar and better go for traditional car rental company. Not to mention how broken the app and how troublesome the account verification process is.

An hour ride for £200+

The summary of this review is that Zipcar has terrible customer service and scams their customers. Here is my story: I rented a car with Zipcar to help my flatmate move. After using it for a couple of hours, I put it back where I had picked it up. Two months later, two charges of 95 pounds are taken from my account, without any heads up. I then receive an email with a parking ticket from Zipcar. Apparently, the spot where I parked the car was not the dedicated one, and since no one rented the car for several days, they accumulated the fines and charged me for it. Again, I had put the car at the exact spot where I picked it up and it matched the description of the parking spot on the app. I immediately wrote to them. After several back-and-forth exchanges, a lot of insisting on my side, and a lot of bad faith on theirs, they simply stopped answering my emails. To top it all off, they added their fees on top of the price of the fine and charged me twice for these fees as well. This is very disappointing, as Zicar could be a good service, but the customer service is clearly not up to the task and borderline scamming (they ended up making money from this).

Impossible to get support

Reaching g out through here because I am unable to get support any other way. My zipcar was rear ended in December 2022. No damage to the car but we still exchanged insurance info with the driver and had a police witness on site. All information was shared immediately with zipcar. It’s currently April 10th and my account is still suspended but they are continuing to charge membership dues each month. I have tried to contact the insurance several times for an update. 30 min+ hold times and each time I have connected the call is dropped. I have called zipcar support. They simply say they have no information about how long the claim will take but it can take weeks. I ask them to discontinue my membership they say they cannot while my account is suspended. It has now been 5 months. 5 billing cycles where Zipcar is charging me a membership fee without: 1) access to the service 2) any way to discontinue my membership. Main call center are no help. They claim they can not resolve the issue and flatly refuse to escalate the issue to someone who can. Not sure what options I have except to report the charge to my bank and ask them to block it because at this point zipcar is charging me for a service they refuse to provide. Happy to connect with someone who can help me as customer service is not an option.

Great concept, terrible execution

Car sharing is a great idea. It work well in many European cities. Here in London though with how Zipcar’s approach, it just seems as a way to scam you out of your money.
Monthly that you gives you better pricing is said to be given back in driving credit, but it is only valid during that month. Not having consistent need for use of the car and only occasional trips I’d think that I’d be collecting credit, but instead I was pointlessly paying for this subscription without use.
Lastly, membership cancellation is quite stupid too.
If you still have got the bill for the month you cannot cancel while you have not paid it. Even without any usage. If someone is cancelling it simply means they don’t want to pay for it. And what’s up with asking if you really really want to cancel like 3 times. It just fees scammish again.

Horrible experience from start to finish

Where do I begin, well my first ever time booking a vehicle with zip car since hearing good things about them. That went completely out the window when the first car I went to pick up was not at its home location because another renter did not return the vehicle. From there they were able to put my into another vehicle ( which I used my funds to transport to another vehicle in a Lyft). From that vehicle there was also another issue ! This car was missing a key and was unable to continue on a trip. Desperate to get to my chemo appointment, I took the associate recommendation to try another vehicle in the area. I got the vehicle and parked it and it never started back up again ! Malfunction warning and the car completely shut off! I called customer service over and over again and requested managers assistance which was no help at ALL! They told me I would not be eligible for my own money back because the car was still on a trip and I can only get partial if that’s possible me after the escalated it ! This has been a horrible horrible experience and I will not recommend anyone ever ever, book with this complaint for anything at all.

Love Zipcar, app can be weird

Love Zipcar! If you are thinking about getting it, do it! I save a fortune not owning a car and still go and do all the things I want with nice new cars that magically get bigger or smaller when I need them to! 🪄 😉
A few weird app complaints.
I get notifications on my phone, recently about a storm and in the past about weekend discounts. But when I tap the notification to read more, it opens the app to the regular reservation screen. There is no list of notifications in the app, so I can’t read about the storm warning or get the discount the notification teased me with! 😠
Another app issue is that when the app first opens and I tap on one of the search options to edit the search by date or time or location, it just does a search for now, nearby. I rarely need a car right now, so I always have to click again to edit the search. So annoying.
I still love zip car but wish they would fix these app issues!
