GasBuddy shows wrong prices
It was around 5pm. I was looking into cheap gas stations all over my county. I went to the cheap one, according to GasBuddy, and the gas was like half a dollar more. I checked before going there, and it was showing that some user submitted a price to that gas station a few hours ago. So, it was suppose to be the correct price. It’s not like the price was submitted by some user yesterday, it was a few hours ago.
To my surprise, the gas price was around 50 cents more. I was like ok, I’ll drive to another one. And I drove to another 4 stations and they all had users submitted prices around a few hours ago, but in fact, when I came there, they all had prices around 50 cents more. And the distance between all of them was like 5-25 minutes, so it’s not like it’s a location issue where all gas station owners updated their prices in one specific area.
Nevertheless, I don’t know what happened, but the gas prices showed on GasBuddy are wrong. Even if it was updated by some user a few hours ago. I don’t think all 5 users had to lie about the price at the 5 stations I went to, but if they did GasBuddy need to do something about users who lie about the price because I drove to 5 gas stations and they all had much higher prices that it was showing in the app.
