  • DS File Crashing

Since Apple’s iOS update 13.2.2 this app now crashes when accessing files on the Synology.

    Developer Response

Dear user, Sorry for the inconvenience. To solve this issue, we need more information. Could you please click on the following link to send us a ticket? It will be much appreciated. https://account.synology.com/en-global/support/create/ticket
  • Can’t save files to phone

Doesn’t let me save a music file to the phone.
  • Very good app

This app allows transfer of files from an iPhone to the disk station at good speed. If some of the files have ended up in iCloud it will not let you do anything with the app until the downloads is complete.

Why can’t the app do the download in the background like the file transfers? This would be a very useful and helpful feature.

  • Useful and fast, but one big missing feature...

I use this app a lot to access files on my DiskStation, both when I am on the network and also over the internet when I am away from my office. It works fine for this and is surprisingly fast to access files.

However there are a couple of missing features which are a real nuisance for me.

The first thing I often want to do is email a file, such as a PDF drawing, to someone when I am not in my office. You can't do this directly from DS File because this feature is not available, so in order to do this I have to open the file into another app which does support emailing (I use GoodReader), and the way to do this is in itself quite convoluted.

The second (linked) issue is not being able to directly transfer files to other apps, for example to be able to open Spreadsheets into Excel (or Numbers for that matter), or WP files into Word.

These are quite ridiculous limitations! These features should absolutely be within DS File for convenience - PLEASE implement them in an upcoming version!

  • Works ok but I think instructions need updated

So I use this app to review some files on my NAS and it works fine for that. I set it up on mine and my wife’s iPhone to backup iPhone photos to the NAS. One thing in the instructions says choose a rule. I don’t see that setting in this version and suspect it was removed. Also, is this supposed to work on its own to check for new photos and back them up? It seems to on my phone but my wife’s phone I have to click the login button and then it starts to work. It hadn’t backed up since Apr. I’d say check instructions and make sure their accurate and make sure the automatic backup works.

  • No longer supports playback of .mkv files

Used to support audio in .mkv files and then an ‘update’ removed support for the codec. To improve the app? Why?
  • Horrible

I have a extremely fast fiber internet. Everything is slow to load on my NAS using this app. Pictures take forever and eventually just stop loading and the app freezes. NAS files open fine if I access them any other way. It’s just a poorly designed app.

I highly recommend using FE FileExplorer instead.

  • Works okay but needs improvement

I use this app quite a bit but it has a lot of shortcomings. My biggest complaint it that it offers “favorites” but you can only use them from the start page. If you want to copy and past from one “favorite” to the other, you need to manually go to that location, which in my setup can be 10 folders deep. Not very fun with multiple files or extractions.

  • Status Bar

Would be good to have a status bar when uploading to the NAS. Now you don’t know if the file has been transferred or not and if you close the app too early the file won’t complete uploading. Status bar would be a good addition. Thanks.
  • Won’t Play Videos or Load Photos

I have a DS413j and when I connect over HTTP with DS File, photos won’t load and videos won’t play. Photos get an empty progress indicator, and videos just present a black screen. Every once in a blue moon something will load, but it’s pretty rare. Even simple JPGs and h.264 MP4s won’t load! This app doesn’t seem to have worked in quite some time 😞 Tested on an iPhone 8 and an iPhone XS.
