Inactive Sellers

I had bought something with the buy now option, because it was a little late in the day to try to get an answer from the seller. i then find out that he posted the same item twice for different prices, in fear of losing the item to someone else, or being scammed. i tried getting into contact with him for two days, he would not answer. i contacted support about my concern and asked if the user was even still active and they told me yes, i asked when the posts were made vs when he was last active. his active time was 3 months ago. i asked if they would contact him on behalf of me and see if he would cancel the order or just cancel it themselves because i did not want to wait 6 days at the least to get my money back. its pretty obvious now, 6 days later, that he is not going to send the item yet they won’t cancel the order and repay me the amount. i’ve asked twice now to speak with someone who will be more help and this lady on support says she’ll transfer me but never does. she also makes no sense at times and its chat. like telling me that he was active but he hasn’t been active in 3 months.
this lady is very irritating and will not respond to my direct questions, she instead sends me scripted responses that almost have nothing to do with my concerns, and she’s real, i told her i wanted to chat with her about this like humans not from a paper that is scripted and for a little bit she was more human like about it, but went straight back to it.

Overall good, but room for improvement

Hi,
I think this site is pretty good overall, but have found it to be a bit difficult, when trying to communicate certain issues-especially once something, like a sale, has been finaled. I do think the 2 day period we have, to accept an item purchased, is a bit short. I experienced a situation, where I was away for a several days, so I was unable to see my purchase. As it turned out, the 2 day period, had already expired and I was stuck with a broken frame. I think it would be more realistic to have a longer time for approval of purchased items, if possible. It’s difficult to get in touch with “the powers that be”, when strange things/situations arise. Maybe a “chat” button, would be helpful for sellers with questions requiring quick answers to whatever issue arises. I had an issue where I purchased and received an item, but somehow the seller was never paid. I believe I notified Offer-Up, but the situation was never resolved and I’ve no way to get in touch with her. I keep thinking I’ll find another item she has(we have the same taste), but have yet to see any. I believed her seller name was something, but I can’t pull her up by her seller name(which I’ve now forgotten) and had wished there was a way to do that. It would have been helpful. Basically, I owe somebody something and would like to find a way to pay her, but can’t.
Thank you for your time.
Christine

Hi, Thanks a bunch for the rating! Your insights are important to us. If you have any additional feedback or suggestions, we’d love to hear them. Send us a note to socialcare@offerup.com.

Still hating the poor design

Ratings are lies!!! And censored. OfferUp now uses forced ads you cannot exit! The app is barely usable now - forced to use website. The 'x' to close the ad doesn't work! OfferUp continues to break their service; they saturate search with invasive and sensitive ads placed where you're likely to scroll - opening a web page in tour browser; and let businesses flood the search with duplicate posts. There are no Developers or customer service. This is what happens in America when there's no competition. Now they want to ream us with a $7.99/month subscription to remove the ads they force on you. But it won't remove the bugs, design flaws, or duplicate posts. As much as I dislike Facebook Marketplace, I dislike OfferUp more. The webpage continuously forgets my location despite my account stating my location (poor design/forced activation of location sharing) There are so many scams and bad people with 5-Star ratings because everyone is afraid of getting bad reviews out of retaliation for giving them negative reviews. I also wish we could turn off suggestions. Please stop suggesting!!! Furthermore, there should be a search for title-only option so we don't get scammed by people using keywords to fool your basic search tool. Craigslist has search options that respect user's needs. OfferUp's features are pushy marketing, sticky advertising, and profits over people. And that abusive ringtone we have no control over! It's all a dumpster fire.

One more try

I’m going to rate 3 stars cause I haven’t used it yet, I hope they improve it,cause last time it was real bad ,I been using this app for the longest, I use to post an item for sale and sell it in couple of days top, as the years pass the selling was getting harder , since they split it , the pay subscription gets more attention than the free one,the years I study this app, as the years pass the free app die basically you get kick to the corner, I check my views everyday in hot items and views were the same for a month that’s when I decide to build my own , and yes super successfull, but I like to post my products in a lot of places them hold on I sold something omg! Just came in ,well that was a great start , and I really think the app improves in a lot of ways, I’m not saying this because the sale , I been messing around w it and posting got super fast, it got more relax , before I used to stress everytime I was posting cause it was taking for ever,so far it’s good plus a sale while I’m writing the posting ? You can see improvement already so let’s sell so items ! Now let’s c the charges that’s another thing I’m worried about but I keep y’all posted I will update this review thank u but I recommend it , it has improved technically and costumer care are on point we been communicating and they respond real quick

TERRIBLE Customer Support

I have been a seller for many years on the Offerup App. I have done well over hundreds of transactions and have built a positive reputation over the years, although unfortunately it wasn't easy. This app is filled with many unethical people, scammers, thieves, lowballers, all which are violations of the Community Guidelines and terms and conditions of the app. I have made many reports about the people who violate these community guidelines and that have, or tried to scam me and not one single of those people had their account terminated or at least restricted. I had an account with over 100 5 star ratings, and my account was just deleted. No reason was given, No Warning, It was just deleted. All of my hard work, and dedication just thrown away, with no ability to repair the mistake they made. I contacted Customer Support many times, I sent over 100 emails to try and have my account restored since I knew I wasn't responsible, out of the 100+ emails that I sent only about 10 agents replied without any actual help, I received the same automated copy and paste email over and over saying my account was removed from OfferUp due to violations of the Community Guidelines, Posting Rules, which I did not do. Absolutely no help from Offerup Support. After lots of researching trying to fix this issue I found out that thousands more other people have also had this issue, their account being deleted with no explanation and getting no help from OfferUp Support.

Hi, We are here to help, please let the team check the best way possible to help and contact us at socialcare@offerup.com so we'll check it for you.

This app has gone to crap!

Update: I didn’t think the app could get worse but it has. This time directly attributed to the app management team rather than the users like i stated in my original post. They decided to add add to the app. I mean the worst kind of ads. The app already had tons of ads in your messages, at the bottom of the search, a bunch of fake ad listings that took you to the internet, but for whatever reason, they now added ads double ads that pop up on your screen after viewing an item. You close one and then you have to wait on an other ads timer before you can return to your search query, I am deleting this app definitively this time.

Original:

When it launched and up until 3 maybe 4 years ago it was flawless, it was mostly if not all user to user selling. I’m not sure when but OfferUp has now been riddled with stores flooding the listings with thousands of their inventory so whenever you search something now, you go through pages and pages of stores inventory’s selling at premiums offering fake credit that ach draws from your account weekly bi weekly or even monthly, the catch? Paying monthly you pay double the price, weekly 1.3 and bi weekly 1.6 the price. I’ve never done it but I spoke to a few of them about their financing options. So if you are trying to get an item at a budget price from another seller, it will take about 10 to 20 times longer just scouring the pages of filth from these stores

Terrible App

Update : this app is trash! Complete trash. Still bots and scammers galore and now they are banning accounts with the vague explanation of community guidelines. Stay away at all cost! I’ve been back on the app no more than 3 days and I’ve been banned. Lol. I wrote and email asking some questions about selling an item and that’s the first response I received back. Maybe I broke guidelines in the email? Who knows? Who cares at this point? Will never use this app again. Would rate -5 stars if I could.

The app itself it's ok. 1.99 to bump an item is flat out crazy though. What if the item you're selling is $5? Lol. Bumps should be free everyday or every other day. Something reasonable. The purpose is for the consumer to post and sell. If the consumer starts to feel that their items are being drowned out then why not go somewhere else and post? I'm sure they're are a few of these apps out now. I'm no computer person but I get the feeling this app is flooded with spammers/bots. I will receive messages from three different people basically making the same offer to me. None of them respond back when messaged. Not sure how the posting works either. I can scroll down for maybe 2-3 seconds and I see the same items again. At first I thought I was mistaken but it happens everytime I sign on. I don't see my item listed when I scroll either. Overall the app does what it says it does. Hopefully it doesn't turn into another Craigslist. Seems they are on their way though.

Hi there, thank you for your review and feedback. We want to provide the best experience for our community members and we're here to help. Please email our team at support@offerup.com with the details of your concerns so we can assist.

TruYou Verification is now REQUIRED

Given the number of data breaches we’ve seen over the years from much more established institutions, I don’t see the need to upload your Driver’s License or Identification Card simply to verify that you’re a person as being relevant to buy or sell. OfferUp has verified my email and my phone number and that should be good enough. In addition, you can chat directly with sellers or buyers so they’ll immediately get feedback on whether or not uou’re a real person or if you’re truly local or if they want something shipped to their cousin who just happens to be a prince. On top of that, people can see your public profile shich tells them how many items you’ve bought and sold and how your well your interactions went based on a five star system. Bottom line, there are plenty of ways to ensure the person you’re talking to is human.

None of which is a guarantee that you’re NOT going to be scammed but that’s the risk you take. TBH, gettin “scammed” is relative to each person’s experience with a particlar sale, i.e. selling something cheaper than what you had intended, buying something that broke after a few day/weeks, etc. Again, it’s a risk but you should know that you’re taking that risk by buying something from another person. YMMV.

Until this REQUIREMENT is lifted or removed, I will not be using their platform. I really miss LetGo.
