  • Cool concept, bad app

I’m just rating the app experience here, not DietBet itself. I really like dietbet in general, it’s a great motivator, and I enjoy the interaction, but, the app is horrible. At least on my iPhone, it freezes every other time I try to use it, and I either have to wait hours for it to unfreeze and start working on its own again, or restart my phone. Super annoying. Also, dietbet makes a ton of money front these pots- they’re taking 25% of some really large pots. I’ve won three bets now and only made about $8 each time (if you don’t include my initial bet, which they do, so they can try to make it seem like you’re “winning” more than you actually are). Like I said though, it’s a great concept, and great motivator. They just need to work out some kinks.

  • Changed My Life

I tried dietbet because a friend was doing it, and I ended up losing over 20 pounds of the 30 I want to lose! Fatgirlfedup Lexi’s dietbets were amazing. Putting real money on the line (and having the chance to win my money back PLUS some) gave me the motivation I needed. And the community you find in the game you join keeps you accountable and gives you a support system. This app is seriously the most fun I’ve ever had losing weight. I’ve lost over 20 pounds, but there are people in the games I’ve joined that have lost 50 or more pounds. It’s really inspiring!

  • Great community

You'll likely lose weight if money motivates you. I've done 2 dietbets now and it really shows you how eating affects your weight. Healthy eating, I lost weight. Same old strategies, I stayed stagnant. Eating whatever I wanted, I gained. The concept and most of the app is good. 5 stars would be: swipe right to go back to a previous page, be able to comment by clicking in the box rather than clicking the word "comment", and seeing what was liked easier than a small area filled with words where most have a link. It was hard to tell what I was clicking on. My Fitbit was connected at one point but I only saw when it posted, once. It was just hard to find things like that and it could be cleaned up better. Overall good app and I look forward to future versions!

  • Good, but disappoints occasionally

Great app and idea. However during two different competitions, I have submitted weigh ins that were not accepted. I don’t find out in a timely manner and didn’t agree with the reason, such as my scale cutting off the edge of the readout, but it is obvious that I am under my weight goal.

Most recently, on the last day of the competition I submitted an official weigh in which was accepted and I was almost 1lb under, then 3 day’s later it said I didn’t win. After going through the hard to find customer support, they said official weigh ins are the day after and they couldn’t accept it.

I should feel good about hitting my goals, but “losing” sours the whole experience. Deleted the app.

  • Good app to keep motivated

I successfully finished one diet bet around three months ago. The program is awesome and keeps me accountable for my overall health. Pretty good motivator in winning prize money. I also enjoy the community support available on the application.

However, during my previous kick-start, the app would sometimes be a little less responsive with the messages. Nevertheless, the browser based platform would make up for the messaging issue. Will judge furthest during this go-around.

Altogether, the program is great in providing incentive to maintain progress with weight loss, and ultimately, improvement in health.

  • Horrible Customer Service

The jist of this app is to lose weight and earn money at the same time. Simple right? Well I have encountered problems and questions where I did not receive any money for losing the weight. Well, I tried to reach out to someone with customer service and I have not been able to contact or hear back from ANYONE! I have seen other dietbetters writing saying that they have not received any payment either! When money is exchanging hands, you should have a customer service that you can contact, just in case something goes wrong or there is a question that needs answering. This is not a diet bet, more like a diet scam. They can take your money and you won’t be able to get a hold of them to ask why. It is their rules, their way. Even after I write this, I bet I will still not get any response.

  • Renewed hope

Participating in the DietBets have renewed my hope in the fact that I am in control of my weight loss and that with hard work and consistency, I win! This is a simple process wherein you are not competing with other people, you just have to lose 4% of your weight in a 30 day period. There is a sense of community because other participants are rooting for you as they accomplish their goals too. The journaling is a bonus feature for me because it allows me to create goals and keep track of my goals right within the app...so easy!! I’m going to keep doing these bets until I reach my goal and then I will create another goal and participate in the maintenance bets. I’ve lost Weight in the past but never kept it off, I now feel like that won’t be an issue anymore. Thank you to whoever created this program.

  • Great Motivation

My choice of weight loss method is super easy to follow (the starch solution) but I had gained so much weight that I felt overwhelmed by needing big losses. This app is the only thing that has worked for me! It gives me reasonable monthly goals and helps me focus on right now. It also keeps me from starting over everyday when I make a “mistake” or don’t do my plan perfectly. Time keeps ticking and you can’t start over you just KEEP GOING!!! Awesome! The money is seriously a secondary benefit, but it is cool to have a little bit of winnings to buy myself a congrats gift:) app has worked really well as far as function for me.

  • Great community!

Just completed my first two DietBets! Loved Jenn, the creator of my bets, her ideas, her challenges! Happy with my progress and love the community feel and support!
The app was easy to navigate with a little use. App does not allow the use of emoji's which looked strange.
I wish there was a link on my profile to see just my activities, posts, likes, and comments. Also, I could find the pictures that I posted but couldn't get them to load right side up, or zoom in on them.
I had to scroll for a long time to see my actual posts. Same for the people who liked and commented on my posts and who I liked and commented on. I could not find a particular person's posts by any sort of search that I could find. The only way I could find a person was to go back to my notifications and search for them by name. Wish the app allowed a simpler way to connect with people.
I will probably do another DietBet. DietBet helped a lot and I really got into the challenge! It was also great to be able to scroll through this app instead of one of my others when I have downtime.

  • The concept is great, nothing like it, but...

I will continue using this until something else becomes more popular (not likely), but the app is visually noisy, and difficult to navigate. There are some features which users obviously want to access regularly and in a well designed program those features are highlighted among the mess and noise of more needless bits so that users can easily find them. Also, in the search option, I couldn't look for a game which already exists. I either had to search for upcoming games, high participation games, or high roller games. There should be a general search.

Again, the concept is great, and I'm stuck with this execution. Could be worse. At least it's not DOS!
