Great way to find a great cat sitter.

Love the communication and photos provided by the sitter through the app

Bad support

Rover’s support is useless. If you call an emergency hot line they asking you so many questions, waisting your time that it is becoming not an emergency support at all. If something happens with pet and you need an urgent advise how to act, that pet would die faster than they help you.
Also it is always very messy in support. You have to wait for a days and weeks to figure out your question. They switching you to other consultants with every message you send them and new consultants often don’t know what the conversation was before. I don’t know for what sitters paing 20% fee.

Good overall

I think rover is great to use overall and has helped me gain lots of business… but they take way too much money from sitters, it’s quite ridiculous.

Leaves a lot to be desired

I use Rover both as an owner and a sitter. I’m also a product manager so I know what makes good and bad user experience.

As an owner - Rover is pretty well designed, allows you to browse suitable sitters, see their avg review rating and book easily.

As a sitter - Rover is a disaster. The flow for booking is SO confusing, it isn’t at all clear whether the onus is on the owner or the sitter to book the pet in. The basic functionality is there and it does work but it isn’t at all clear who does what within this booking process (between the owner and the sitter)
If sitters remove booking requests, this isn’t at all clear and looks like you are still sitting that pet. There is no mechanism to submit feedback to the Rover product team which is poor. It’s not clear why the calendar starts on a Sunday and this view should be customisable to where you are located in the world (I’m in the UK where we usually start the week on a Monday) to improve ease of use.

All in all, I think Rover has the potential to be a very good app but from the sitter side, it just isn’t there yet. I feel there are additional barriers that have been built into Rover unnecessarily. I am not clear how much involvement a designer or someone who knows design has had but it doesn’t look like a lot.

App doesn’t allow one to sign up

Won’t let you sign up just does nothing. What is the point of offering one the option to sign up feature that if it never works on the App? Makes me question if it is a fishing scam.

Awful support

After using Rover as a pet parent I have found many flaws. One of which is contacting support and getting a reply. An incident happened where without proper investigation or evidence, my dog was found guilty. Rover deactivated my account before I was even issued a full refund for the rest of the time I paid for. In two weeks I paid Rover over $500 and all I got in return is a deactivated account and an injured dog.
When I did get ahold of someone, They claimed the dog sitter will also have repercussions for their negligent behavior but after some research, found the sitter still has an active account. I’m appalled by Rover’s support team and will never recommend this app to anyone. My opinion; run your own background checks and find someone through a different recourse.
The fees on this app are also not refundable. So please, do yourself the favor and save the headache by using a reputable dog daycare in your area or another recommended source to take care of your sweet fur babies.
My dog hasn’t been the same since this incident and I feel like more went on in the sitters home then What I was told. The psychological damage done to my dog can’t be reversed. And she had never seen abuse before this sitters home. And yet Rover blames my dog and the sitter gets to keep her business.
Good luck to you if you still decide to use Rover. I hope for your case it does work out and you can trust the person your fur baby stays with.

Takes your money

The app is not giving me a refund after the background check did not go through(which I’m unsure why) I called and the girl I was speaking to was very rude off the bat and was not understanding.

trash and scam

they cover you for review your profile, mines not approved yet after weeks!!! I want i refund and they say “your profiles been approved” when it says “still under review “ it’s ridiculous

The fee taken from sitters is outrageous

This app only cares about the owner not the sitter. Pet owners are charged 11% and the fee can’t exceed $65 but a sitter who’s doing the work, you get 20% taken from you and there’s no cap on the fee taken. That’s ridiculous!
And the customer service is atrocious, they shift blame from the app and are unknowledgeable.

Marketing Genius or Deliberately Misleading

This comment is about Rover management and how they’ve designed Pet Clients to by in large only give 5 stars for Rover’s selected feedback criteria, fabricating only happiness and perfection; and not specifically about the app or the service providers within this app.

Specifically, after one has given their written feedback, they’re then forced into giving responses on Rover’s controlled statements; otherwise feedback cannot be given and/or a tip left for the service provided.

Following “your” written feedback they force additional responses that largely will only ever result in 5 stars for their money earners. They do this by forcing you to state a predetermined problem if you give anything less than 5 stars in any of their predetermined categories, effectively forcing one to commit to something negative even though there wasn’t maybe anything material, but it just also wasn’t “5” stars.

For example, after say a 30 minute walk of which the client was not a part of, you either state you explicitly trust your walker with everything that could ever happen with your dog/cat, or you have to commit to one or more of a series of predetermined statements as to why you don’t.

This is the case for every one of their forced feedbacks. It tells me that all those 5 stars that all the walkers and caregivers seemingly have - have maybe been given because anything less is a hassle and conundrum for the client as to whether it’s worth stating a deficiency for something that probably just hasn’t had the time to sufficiently develop.

That sucks and I now do not trust anything I see in Rover. These tactics are not by chance, they are by design to control the positivity of results for their money earners. They are a huge contributing factor to creating contrite and useless feedback where it otherwise would be essential feedback for new users of services in this app.

Trying reach anyone but a 10 cent BoT at Rover is beyond painful, hence my view on this forum.
