  • Licensed user seeing ads and tracking

There is a pop up whenever I open the app that wants to track my location - no way to dismiss it. I wrote the devs who said they would fix it. It’s still bugging me months later. Asked for other fixes over the years such as fixing screen rotation so it doesn’t lose your scroll position in a list, and using the search box to find an existing item instead of duplicating them. Both issues still happening. Started seeing ads about the same time as the tracking prompt and I’m a paid user. The banner ads load and change while I’m scrolling through a list and it causes the list to shift and I often check the wrong item because of it. This app has become more and more of an inconvenience. I will be looking for a better list app.

  • USED to be my favorite shopping list app…

For years this has been my go to shopping list app, until recently.. every time I open the app I get a pop up window showing the ‘power’ of the app I’m using. I don’t want to have my location on for it all the time and notifications but I got tired of seeing it so I selected them anyway hoping it would go away… nope! Now everytime I open it, it pops up telling me I’m using 100% and I have to exit out before I can even get to the app… it’s so irritating! If I need to add something to my list quickly I want to just be able to open and add it, not have to clear out some other pop up from the app before I can even get to my list… because of this I am now looking for a different list app. It was so good, and this just ruined it.

  • Removing features, adding bugs

The app is getting too big for itself and has turned me off. It used to be that you could open the app and start your list right away. Now, they push users to have an account on 2 screens before you get to the list. Categories are not that smart/ they don’t always work for the list that I am trying to build, so I never really used them and found them annoying because of the inaccuracies and rigidity of ordering your list for you. Now, you can’t rearrange the order of your list UNLESS categories are on. It’s just adding an impediment for the user—if you want to create an ordered list, you MUST have categories, tags that are useless at the best of times and inaccurate at the worst of times.

When the app was simpler, it was better. Stop trying to add a bunch of features to make life more complicated, and don’t make a grocery list an exercise in futility.

Out of Milk soon to be Out of Users.

  • Well, latest update ruined the app

Just got an update a few days ago and now when the app launches, EVERY TIME, a screen comes up to say you’re “only using x% of the power of the app”. It starts at 25%. At the bottom of the screen there are two toggles, one to “allow us to notify you with great deals” (off) and “Turn on location services for deals at the store” (off). Turning on the deals toggle changes the % to 75. But that’s all I see no indication on how to get to “100%” and/or how to stop the screen from appearing every time the app is launched. There’s no way to scroll down the page and nothing else in the app I can find to change the percentage. I will not tolerate this screen. I DON’T want notifications, and I DON’T want to give the developers my location. I will likely be deleting the app in the next day or two if I can’t figure out a solution for this. What marketing genius thought it would be a good idea to nag users EACH and EVERY time the app is launched, apparently FOREVER?

    Ridiculous!

  • Alphabetize

Been using this app for about four years now, and get frustrated with it because it has no alphabetizing utility. If I need bananas, I have to scan down my entire list of previous-entered items. Since I'm not smart enough to have figured out how items are originally placed in the pick list, I often find it easier to simply type something in, like eggs or ham, than have to scroll through the 200 or so items I have already entered. But then I wind up with three ir four entries for "ham", which only adds to the length of the list I have to scan. I occasionally have to take some of my COPIOUS free time (NOT) and delete duplicate entries. Would be MUCH nicer if pick list automatically alphabetized items so I could quickly scroll to "S" to find spaghetti. The current way is just dumb.

  • Used to love it but bugs + poor customer service

I’ve been using Out Of Milk for several years. I enjoyed and recommended the app to a lot of friends.

Over the last few months I’ve noticed that every time I entered an item to the list it stopped applying the category even though the correct auto category was suggested. I.E. bread -> baked goods when pressed adds it to the list as bread -> Uncategorized. This makes shopping inefficient.

I reached out to their customer service and received a generic response stating-

“We sincerely apologize for the frustration this has caused you. Rest assured that our team of developers is continuously working hard to address the issues.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any further questions or concerns. Have a great day!”

I followed asking if that was an issue they were aware of or are working on etc. The response is not definitive. It’s been over two weeks without a response. Most people would just delete the app and download a different one. I was trying to do the right thing notifying them of the issue and trying to work through ie put in the time to fix it.

Buggy software + poor customer service equals me finding a new app. Shame because I did like this app.

  • Meh

I was a Grocery IQ app user for many years [sigh—miss that app] and one reviewer thought this was the closest thing to that. I humbly disagree. This app frustrates me in that if I create a category called “canned goods” and then later add an item classified by the app as “canned goods,” I end up with two categories called “canned good!”

And I really miss how in Grocery IQ, I would scroll through my list of things I usually bought just clicking on them and they would move to the bottom with a green circle in front of them. I could go through that clicked list then at the store and after they were in the cart, click on them again and they moved back up under their category where they had been. In this app, if you click on something in your list, it crosses it off and moves it to the bottom so I ended up kind of recreating my list for each shopping trip which is silly because we buy so many of the same things each week.

  • Think I like it

Just started yesterday. Looked other grocery list apps and regular list apps. This is what will work for me. Two problems. Lots of repetitive items, spelled and capitalized differently. (Wherever did these all come from? Web crawl of amateur food blogs?) second is I need a level for item lower than low for things I don’t stock but want next trip – in fact that should be the default for new items. Meanwhile “full” works well enough. I understand I could use the shopping list part of the app for that, but I mean for things I often want to buy and so keep on the list. Maybe just a way to have both “low” and “full” turned off.

  • Frustrated

I have used the app for several years and liked it but your ratings are slipping as far as I am concerned. For the past few months I have experienced random items added to my grocery list and sometimes multiples of the same item such as “purchase lottery tickets”. This morning I was putting my grocery list together and added hot dogs and cheese. I went back a few minutes later and “Kraft Cheese Walmart” and “Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs” appeared on my list. I realize this is a promotional tactic but can’t find a way to turn it off. If I wanted those specific stores or brands added to my items I would have done it myself. You’re losing my interest in the app and I’m about to delete it. I used to tell everyone about you app but now if I even mention it, it’s with the warning that they may have items added to their list that they didn’t include.

  • Perfect replacement for Grocery IQ!

I needed to find a replacement for Grocery IQ with their latest incompatibility with IOS 14.5. I only needed a simple grocery list app that would allow the ability to create lists for different stores, share common items across lists, sync between my iPhone and iPad, and create my own categories. Out of Milk provides all of this functionality, and more! It’s very intuitive to use, and the sync function works great. I can update their categories with my own names, add color-coding to my own categories, and save frequently purchased items in the “pantry” to easily add them to a list. It doesn’t have the branded items found on Grocery IQ, but I actually like the simpler interface (e.g., a search for salsa doesn’t show up with 20 different types of salsa). I can add notes for brands I prefer, customize the quantity types (e.g., 12 oz.), and even add unit prices. I can share the list with my husband, also. The features and functionality make this a winner!
