Stranded

Doesn’t update when major disruptions to trains are made. We got stranded in Barcelona having to buy airplane tickets because we didn’t know the trains were affected by flooding in France until we were already at the station and there were no trains till next month.

I understand the need for offline use but major disruptions to lines should at least have some kind of notification.

Worst app ever!

Cannot believe in this day and age that someone can produce such a lousy app. I'm relying on the local train schedules to figure out my travels. It never has the up to date schedules!! It also doesn't allow me to place any reservations so I must do it at the local stations. Not only will I never use the app, I won't ever but the Eurail pass again! So disappointed!!

Completely useless – Use DB or ÖBB app instead

You can't really DO anything with Rail Europe's mobile application. "Rail Planner" can query a small subset of train schedules, but Deutsche Bahn's app can query all schedules for all of Europe. "Rail Planner" can't make reservations (it sends you to the Rail Europe Web site to do that, and their process is completely manual, involves mailing paper records, and requires a $7.95 fee in addition to any reservation costs), whereas the DB app can make reservations for German domestic trains and many international trains that serve Germany, and the Austrian Railways (ÖBB) app can reserve just about anything. Don't waste your time downloading "Rail Planner".

Could be the worst app ever

Apart from poor design, it won’t process reservations it says are available. and won’t let you delete previously planned reservations. The website is no better, doesn’t recognize login and then sends you in a loop to do it again. Enough to make you want to abandon the whole notion of the rail pass.

Unreliable

I’ve experienced so many serious shortcomings with this app, that I consider it an unreliable source. Routing that puts me on a bus instead of keeping me on the through train to the destination, a complete ignorance of Italian train scheduling for connections, missteps when routing to avoid seat reservations, total failure to place a selected seat reservation in the cart for purchase, telling me there are no trains to a destination when the German S7 lines accept a EurailPass, etc.

At best, use it in conjunction with Google Maps, get reliable schedules from the train companies directly, search on your own leg by leg to plan connections and transfers, show the app results to station ticket agents to get a good laugh, learn precise names for destinations for typing them in because the app is not smart, buy your seat reservations on high speed trains through a station agent well ahead of time. I don’t hate this app, I’ve channeled my disgust into constructive workarounds, but Eurail should be ashamed of itself for putting out such a shoddy product. It isn’t free if it leads you into making mistakes and missing opportunities.

Issue with adding to my trips

Hey team, I’m also still getting an issue where trips are not being added to the mytrips screen, I get the orange banner when tapping add but then there’s no trips in there when I navigate to the my trips screen :(

Response from developer

Hi Ferazzle, it's strange to hear your Trips aren't saving correctly. Could it be that you have to wait 1-3 seconds and then see them turn up? Or that your phone is offline and that if you go online you get to see them? Or does it help to switch off the app or turn off your device entirely? Any information that can help us you can send to appsupport@eurailgroup.org and we will investigate. A proper Trip is important to you and us!

Useless

This is the worst, most dysfunctional app I have ever used.
It is not intuitive, links often loop right back to the same page, and other than buying the passes, was completely useless in making reservations for trains that require them.
I’ve been able to make one reservation in the two months I’ve been using the passes. All the other times I had to go to the train ticket booth.
The only thing it is good for is train schedules. However I have found many apps that do the same.
This is an awful app. With there was an alternative.

Helpful - but minor issues

This app has been super helpful so far!! Helping us on our interrail trip thats for sure!! Really like how you can map where you’ve been too! However, few issues - if you’re in italy(theres a few other places but i’m focused in Italy atm) make sure you go on the seat reservations part - there are free, non reservation trains with regional.. this would probably help more if this was included on the actual planner. Also through this, not sure if its a fault or it doesn’t work but when you’re trying to see the trains in Italy you can only see trains for 2 hours ahead... not ideal if you’ve forgotten the time or missed a train! (Not sure if this is a rail planner issue or what)
All in all. I would recommend this app to anyone! :)

Hi, thank you for your nice review and tip on Italy reservations for your fellow travellers. In the future we would like to link from the Travelplanner to the Interrail reservation platform directly, as you propose. So you wouldn't need to give all details in again.

An app that has gone from V. Good to V. Bad

I’n a regular purchaser of Interrail tickets and use the app when I’m travelling. Recently took a trip and used the new app. Found that the changes has removed all of the most useful features for me. On the old version, it was possible to search departures by station. This feature has been removed. Another feature it previously had was the ability to click on a train to pull up the full schedule from origin to destination. Now, this is no longer possible and you can only search for trains between two points, it isn’t possible to see where a particular train has started from. Please, please, bring the old version back!

Dear Rich, thank you for taking the time to write your feedback. We will take your wishes into account and hope to bring these functionalities back later. If you find out more during travelling please drop us a note at appsupport@eurailgroup.org.

Good update but with a bug and feature request

The UI of the new version is much better than before, and I highly appreciated that they’ve added the map feature. However, it seems to me that there’s a bug in the app that when I want to save the journey to my trips, it would say it added on the top banner but it was never being saved into my saved journeys. Other than that, it works like a charm.

I would also like to see that the app would also show which platforms the trains will be located at, and also some kind of a feature that would show us alternatives routes if I miss a train between a connection. And of course, it will never hurt if we could see the map of a station for tight connections.

And right now, I’m just brainstorming, but… apart from the local train schedule database, it would be awesome if we could see the schedule of a train station, or a live update of an upcoming train that I’m gonna need to catch? And it would be really nice if we can see which trains has WiFi/power etc.

Dear Knockerclot, thanks for positive review and your brainstorm to improve the app. We recognize a lot of your wishes! To start with the first, we indeed had problems with MyTrips, your review has not been answered in time, but the problem should have solved in the meantime. If not, do you let us know at appsupport@eurailgroup.org? Platform numbers would indeed help reducing stress levels when changing a train, we are working on a way to include (the majority) in the app. Station maps would be even better. The old app used to have an arrival/departure board for a specific station. We are looking into bringing it back. The current time table is offline so it doesn't need internet, in the future we could have real time updates if a railway carrier can provide us with these data (major western-european carriers may can). If clicking on the details of a trains you can see the facilties, at least for German trains you can see "business services" which means wifi/power etc.
