  • Perfect for those seeking an Advance Wars clone

The gameplay in Warbits is great. The developers definitely understand what made Advance Wars so fun and bring that out in this app. My rating of three stars is because half of the game, the multiplayer, is no longer functioning. Since Gamecenter got the boot, all of the multiplayer content is bricked. You aren’t able to do any of it with the exception of local hand-off matches.
Great game, guys! Just give it an update to the multiplayer and it will be perfection.

  • Almost advance wars

But not quite. People say the game gets difficult. I’d say, (I’m talking Late campaign here, btw) it gets tedious. The later levels are arbitrarily lengthened by things like impenetrable walls, and while it still requires skill, the game just slows to a Holt. It’s unfortunate.
I deleted it because in one of the last missions, you make a single mistake, and you’re basically set back like, 6 turns to rebuild enough units to make another attempt — and you can’t skip enemy or friendly movements.
They should add that I guess, as well as perhaps some sort of “confirm move” button (yeah, a lot of those aforementioned mistakes can come from the game being a touch screen. You have 2 of the same units at like, 8 or 9 health? Nah sorry you just accidentally combined them into a unit of 10 instead of attacking.) and, yeah probably like, an “undo move” button.

I mean, I’d say get it on sale. It’s good, but it just lacks the polish of the series it’s apeing

  • Mr

I never played Advance Wars, but while looking for a modern successor to the 'Battle Isle' series from the days of 16-bit computers, I found this. Does exactly what I'd hoped - smart tactical combat with a good range of balance of units. Plenty of single and multiplayer content, including a pass-and-play mode. Great!

  • Best game on iOS. Period.

For players of a certain other handheld turn-based strategy game from the GBA years, this is the homage we’ve all been looking for. This is about as close to perfect as the genre gets.

The matches during the campaign ramp up in difficulty at just the right pace. The available units fit together in all the right ways to enable boundless options and tactics. Knowing when and how to use charges tactically is half the battle — Guardian is my favorite for holding down routes and enemy unit factories to prevent further enemy action.

The interactions between generals is chuckle-worthy. The menu and navigation system is downright genius. You can pick it up in a few minutes, but master it only after several hours.

I love this mobile game in ways man should never love a mobile game.

    Good mechanic strategy physics
  • Awesome Game! E For Excellence!

Warbits Is Fun, Creative And Addicting All At The Same Time! Although I See No Room For Improvement Currently, Some Major Issues Will Most Likely Come To Mind. In Time Though.
  • Good game

    Fun and challenging
  • Finally an Advance Wars on iOS

I’ve been waiting for this type of game to come out on iOS. I love it. I hope there’s more like it in store.
  • Cool game, but needs some improvements

Love this game! So fun to play but being able make your own custom maps would make it a lot better. Also if you could upgrade troops while play a match, that would be cool to. Thx!
  • Competent but forgettable

This game is an Advance Wars clone. I don’t use the term lightly; it’s not just that the units are almost the same, even the end-of-stage scoring system rates you on Power (% of enemies destroyed), Skill (% of your units that survived), and Speed... even when it doesn’t make sense to do so. On stage 4-4, for instance, you have an ally who helps you against your foe- every unit your ally destroys does not count towards your Power score, making it literally impossible to earn top scores.

Now don’t get me wrong, Warbits is not a bad game. Its core systems, such as its economy, unit balance and variety, mostly copy Advance Wars, which is a really solid system to copy. The reason I give it three stars is because it’s worse in all the areas it cannot directly copy (storyline, aesthetics and visual clarity), and the one area where it tries to innovate and improve upon the old formula with its HQ abilities, it mostly fails. The abilities are poorly balanced, the AI is shamefully poor at using them, and their inclusion harms the game’s overall unit balance.

As a result of the above, Warbits is a competent game and if you like the genre, you won’t regret playing it. It’s also forgettable- it doesn’t advance the genre in any way. When the next game of this type comes out, it will still be compared to Advance Wars, not to Warbits.
