  • *so close* but not there. Destroys your OneNote books, be careful!!

I’ve only used this program for a matter of a week and have had all my notebooks corrupted. More than a few times. I’m lucky enough to have a great backup system, otherwise all my skydrive notebooks would have been destroyed beyond OneNote completely. The notebooks still work with Outline, just not with SkyDrive or OneNote anymore. While the Outline interface is beautiful and I love how close they are coming to this solution, I work in a PC/MAC environment and require the interoperability between the 2. I’ve had to purchase Parrells and OneNote 2013 and go with that solution instead, for the time being.

Devs, don’t take this the wrong way. I’m rooting for ya, but get the sync issues fixed quick. There’s a lot of people who don’t back up everything so frequent. They’re not going to be happy having all their data “converted” to a format only compatible with your program moving forward. As a side note, not ALL of your notebook gets converted in a way that MS OneNote finds is “corrupted”, but specific sections that you work on. Sections you don’t touch in Outline seem to still work in OneNote.

Yes. I’ve sent am e-mail to you guys in regards to this and haven’t heard back. Fix the issue and I’ll remove this comment.

  • Worth the wait.

I have been keeping an eye on this app as I have been hanging for a One Note replacement so I didn’t have to use Parallels. I noticed the price dropped while it was still just a viewer and was stupid not to invest then. Now that it is an editor it is fantastic. If you want a One Note replacement, grab it. It logs into Sky Drive and immediately accesses your One Note files. Works perfectly (so far) and allows me to takes notes without touching Windows. My one request would be to allow me to remove the recent and new page column from view so it can take up less space on the screen - handy when utilising multiple windows. Thank you!

  • crash and burn

Layout is great and exactly what I was looking for. More advanced features such as spell check would be nice.
It syncs only with cloud type services, the iTunes sync does not work.
Biggest problem is that it crashes frequently with loss of data. Money down the drain as far as I am concerned.
  • Glad it’s arrived, but still issues

I’ve been waiting for this app for a year so I’m glad it’s here and it works.

Some issues I’m still having that I hope get resolved soon
    - I’ve been using onenote across multiple devices for 5 years now, and haven’t had sync issues until now. I’m using skydrive. And I’ve had several issues with syncing that have forced onenote to repair a new copy of a section. It’s hard to tell what changes made it across when this happens.
    - I can’t make the tabs/folders disappear or minimized on the left. Being able to switch it to the right to be consistent with onenote for windows would be nice as well.
    - Sometimes the app loads up with no pages showing at all - the unreliability makes me want to switch back to apple notes and causes notes to be fragmented again.
    - copy and paste from other app like microsoft word can show up funky.

I’m glad outline is here and functioning though. I’m really looking forward to continued developments/refinements on this!

  • v2 a welcome step forward but misses basic functionality and buggy

A long time coming but v2 finally allows editing for what was otherwise a fairly redundant application. UI is good, in keeping with the original MS variant however, some basic, often used functionality missing - particularly, no table insert/edit support which causes layout issues for me.

I’ve noticed pages become corrupt if they are created in Outline and then you try and edit in the online variant of MS OneNote. On this point, there’s arguably little difference in features / functionality from using the online OneNote version and Outline.

All in all, a good step forward and a good opportunity to close this signficant gap in OSX productivity applications.

  • Good Start

This is certainly a good start to mirroring the original one note. Few things that would make it immediately better:

    - Be able to collapse the side bar on the left showing the notebooks available. Efficient screen usage on a laptop is important especially if the program you are using is to clip and cut from other documents. Currently you can manually reduce the columns size but it still takes up a large amount of room.
    - Be able to Insert Tables. I quite like with my note taking to have two columned table so I can copy a statement on one side and comment on the other or even insert a picture in the table.
    - The Tabs section matches the onenote format and even allows you to change the hierachy level of pages however is does not allow you to collapse the stack.

It is nice to finally have a program for OSx that follows the great interface of onenote and have the skydrive sync service. I am sure the outline team will refine and add more functionality over time.

  • Good job!

I think this version is way better than the previous one. Although there are some minor bugs here and there, but it is still pretty good specially that now I have the editor. Thanks a lot!
  • Well done to the Outline Team!

Update: 19 Dec and the editor is released. Updated and I can now make edits to the OneNote files. I’m a long way from fully testing the functionality end-to-end (back and forth through OneNote) but kudos to the development team for being good to their word and getting this released by the end of the year. I thought I’d given them time to get the update out and changes to the wording on the site suggested a lack of direction in that regard. Huzzah!

[Late Nov}: Well, when I bought this earlier this year an update was promised to support editing by the end of this year. That wording is now gone. No word on their website as to updates or intent. Shame! Oh, and of course you had to buy it earlier to avoid the price increase when the editor came… now a price drop. This is one of those purchases where you really just want to get funds back. Poor.

  • MISLEADING!

BE CAREFUL! THIS IS A READER of your OneNote files! You can not create any new documents, you can not do anything unless you have Windows + OneNote installed somewhere where you can create a notebook and then edit it in this app. This is ridiculous.
  • If you want an App that will continuously CRASH

….then Outline is it! I was excited to try Outline because I was a PC user and had ALL my OneNote Notebooks that I still need access to. I didn't care that I couldn't edit them because all I need to do is to be able to view them. Bought the app, watched the little video tried to drag and drop a OneNote notebook from my external hardrive and it CRASHED!
I can't even open it, I get a pop up I press send to apple and it happens again. Restarted my computer…tried to open Outline..NOPE same dam pop up, can't open, clicked reopen…nope! nadda!

    Deleted the app, redownloaded it…nothing!

It's too good to be true, if you are trying to view OneNote notebooks, this App will NOT do that, maybe if you are able to import a notebook, but I wasn't even able to do that so it was a total let down.

I guess the only option is to save all my OneNote Notebooks to PDF's …great.
