  • Worked for me when I needed it this afternoon

I have an iPad Pro 10.5 running iOS 12.1.1 and the Backblaze app opened up just fine and let me download the PDF I needed that lives on my laptop. I see a lot of 1- and 2-star reviews here saying the app doesn’t work but I had no trouble. It’s not at all elegant, and it’s perhaps slow as molasses, but I was able to get a copy of my file. YMMV of course but it worked for me. Tried it on my iPhone just now and it worked there as well.

  • Can’t backup directly from mobile devices

To backup your mobile devices, you have to copy the files from mobile devices to a computer (where BackBlaze backup software is running), that’s not so convenient. Also you can’t restore a file bigger than 30MB to your mobile devices. You have to download the file first to your computer and then transfer it to your mobile device. I wish there’s a Settings where people can decide whether to remove the 30MB size limit for restoring/downloading files on mobile devices. The 30MB restriction should be active only if on cellular connection (not WiFi).

  • Buggy app - can’t sign in

Doesn’t allow me to sign in. I receive a session timeout error. I was just about to buy a 2 year subscription - lucky I tested the app first. Will be looking for another more reliable service instead.
  • Cannot download files

I recently switched to backblaze and I am unable to access my files through this app. Upon attempting to download even a small file, I get the spinning “wheel of death” and the file never downloads. I previously used CrashPlan (they stopped personal service) and had no issues with their app accessing my files. No sure what they did differently, but Backblaze needs to work on file access through the app. Very disappointed so far.

  • Very weak app ... use at your own risk

I’m a Backblaze (macOS) user for the last couple of years. The desktop app works great, highly recommend it along with the service in general.

The iOS app is an entirely different story. When it works, it is slow and has several limitations (e.g., file size, limited number of downloads per day) that diminish its value.

For me, the biggest issue is getting the app to authenticate after an app upgrade. Tech support, multiple app delete / reinstall cycles, lots of frustration. This time, I gave up, deleted the app, decided to use only the macOS app. Backblaze Support minimally helpful, they don’t yet seem to grasp how awful their app is.

My environment(s): iPad Pro (late 2017), iPad Air v6 (early 2018) and iPhone 6S Plus. All have >128 GB memory, all running iOS 12. Using two-factor authentication which seems to thoroughly flummox the Backblaze app.

Maybe if you skip 2FA the app will work. But then your data is at significantly greater risk.

  • Finally 2 factor works with the app

After fixing the 2 factor authentication issue the app works as expected thank you for fixing that. It does everything I would expect it to do and a great service
  • Love Backblaze, but this app is bad

For months now, even through this new version, logins are so inconsistent. Most times I get a network error, sometimes it just won’t accept my credentials and then I hit the login button again and it goes through.

In fact I haven’t had this new version work a single time.

And I still want to know why this is bypassing 2FA when you have it set on your account. Makes me slightly worried that the security infrastructure isn’t as robust as it should be.

  • Shabby

The app worked fine for a while, but then logged me out and I’m unable to log back in no matter what I try. I’ve run through various bits of advice on the support website but nothing works. I’ve been quite disappointed with much of the Backblaze service, frankly – many glitches and problems. The web restore interface is a disaster and hasn’t been improved in years. The basic backup of files seems solid enough, but that’s about as complimentary as I can be. Very disappointing.

  • (Update) Unable to log in

    *Original Review*
Once I authenticate the screen flashes and takes me back to the login screen. I have verified I am using the same credentials I am on the website.

    *Updated Review*
After additional research on Backblaze’s website, they posted an update as to why there are many issues with their mobile app. To the Backblaze team, lthough I believe there should be enough redundancy built into your infrastructure to handle changes, while continuing allowing your users to access your product, I do appreciate you updating your customers with an estimated timeline. I am a big fan of your product and will give this app 3 stars for that sake. I am looking forward to seeing the finished (mobile) product, hopefully it will be worth the wait.

  • Testing

I’m currently testing backblaze as a backup for my raid system. Not impressed that the backups on the iPhone app are only viewable in alphabetical order. Please add the ability to view by date and size.
Otherwise looks good. I’ll update my review when I’ve had time to go over it more.
