  • Not for beginners at all!

I was really disappointed in this app after downloading it so I could work out with friends. I’m pretty unfit but I was determined to try, and the app says it caters for all skill levels, so imagine my surprise when I clicked on the “beginner” workout and was confronted with 75 reps each of sit-ups, push-ups and weird climber things. 75!! Even one climber is not something a beginner could be expected to manage!
This app assumes a baseline skill level of somewhere around an intermediate athlete. Don’t even bother if you’re a beginner, it’s just demoralising and a waste of time. It’s not even possible to adjust the workouts to suit your skill level. There are far better apps out there.

I loved the idea at first. An AI powered coach that adjusts to my goals, performance, setbacks, etc. but that’s all marketing BS. There is no AI or adjustments or changes. If there is, it’s not evident as really not much has changed in the workout routines so question this benefit. Also, I find that swiping from exercise to exercise a little annoying instead of saying “Next” or having the app track my completion via the camera or hand gesture. I also would like to be able to redo any Coach workout I’ve
Completed. So if I had a coach training on a Tuesday with a break on Wednesday, I cannot go back to my Tuesday session and redo if I feel like getting another session in. I have to wait for my training on Thursday or just do the single exercises. Why??? AI relies on data so the APP should let me do more exercises/repeat previous sessions. Sometimes the APP freezes and I have quit the app and restart. Happens only once in awhile but annoying. Also. I would like to see a family option where my wife could also benefit so they should consider a family plan.

I am going to cancel my membership and try some of the more straightforward apps as this is more work than it needs to be. Would rather focus on exercising vs fiddling around trying to get this app to work for me. Good luck to all of you on your goals.

  • Best Fitness App

I started my fitness journey with Freeletics in 2017 and lost about 20Kgs. Not only have I managed to keep it off even with pregnancy but 3 years on I’m in the best shape of my life

  • One thing I need!

Sometimes I want to modify a workout. For example. I workout at the gym and I have a hard time doing pull-ups. So I use a machine that uses similar muscles instead. I want to be able to take note of the times that I have to do that. I don’t need to input my exact modification, just that I had to modify it.

Also! I want to be able to override the intervals if needed. At one point I was doing the intervals and for some reason closed the app. Instead of leaving off where from where I was at it started it over. And I had to wait for it to fully finish the rest periods/etc...

It would also be really cool if you could choose at the beginning of your journey where you prefer to work out. Like if you prefer the gym or working out at home. This way I could get a training plan revolving around the gym for example.

On the nutrition app I wish I could leave a small note of what I ate instead of what the coach said. I don’t need specific details like calories/fat/etc... just a basic journal of my intake to help me remember. In fact, I like how the nutrition app doesn’t focus on getting a super specific log of your eating.

  • Buyer beware

The app is pretty good however their subscription practices are downright predatory. After paying for a promo period of 6months, I was automatically subscribed to another 6months at a hefty fee. While this is common practice to auto-renew, what was nearly impossible to track was subscription terms/dates. The app does not continue any of this info, nor does the App Store. You have to login on your computer to get any information about your subscription which is a shady way to hide this. Further, there is no warning email as a courtesy of your impending renewal.

Here is the thing: I didn’t ask for a full refund, just the nutrition portion since I never use the service but they refused, cementing a negative review and churning customer.

  • Create our own workout?

Have used the app on and off over the past 2-3 years, both as a member and free user. Love the coach and feedback you get.

The reason for 4 out of 5 is I would love the option to create your own workout from the single exercises. You have the option of the premade God workouts for planned workouts. But if I wanted to do 3 rounds of push ups, squats and jackknifes for example and reps I would like to try, I couldn’t. I would have to go do single exercise for each of those 3 times each, so 9 total exercises, which is kinda annoying.

From someone with a strength and conditioning background I think this would give users greater use, creativity of their workouts, and freedom of an amazing app already.

  • Genuinely life changing

I don’t normally write reviews but had to make an exception for this app. I have been using it for 10 months now - and that is precisely why I had to write this review. It has made exercising a habit. I genuinely look forward to the days I am due to do a workout, I get excited about what workouts it is going to generate for me the week after and regularly think what goals I am going to select for it to generate my next training plan.

To put this in perspective, I haven’t lasted at doing consistent training for more than 90 days. Ever. And I’m now 34. Gyms bored me. I enjoyed the results of a number of the Beachbody DVDs (Insanity, P90X, etc.), but they didn’t make exercising a habit for me. In fact they became a chore and after completing I wouldn’t do fitness again for 12 months, maybe more.

Last January, after 2 years of doing nothing, being heavier than I have ever been and getting tired after climbing 3 flights of stairs, I decided to give Freeletics a go. What a transformation. I’ve lost a stone, I can run 10km without a problem, I can do previously unimaginable numbers of burpees, press-ups, pull-ups, handstand push-ups and squats. And I love it.

Try it. You won’t regret it.

  • Generally ok but could do with some tweaks

I think generally this is a great app though a little on the expensive side as it’s a simple algorithm that can lead to some frustration. I find it very irritating that when you have a workout/interval that is focused on a particular area of the body or very heavily on one exercise, the drills either side are also of that same exercise. For example one workout asks for 30x lunges, 30x burpees, 30x leg raises and the preceding warmup and drill is more burpees. It becomes both repetitive and also a strain on one body area. There is also a tendency to jump from a manageable workout to massively high rotations of one action. One day it went from around 60 squats spread over a workout to 180. This jump is too big in terms of a single action. I think the drills should be a little different from the main interval and I would much prefer longer workouts that are more varied in the exercises even when focusing on one area of the body.

  • Good overall but has a few vital flaws

Overall, I love the app. The workouts are really fun and they make you look forward to them at the end of the day. They have a bunch of good programs and having a coach tailored to your needs is really helpful.

Unfortunately, there are a few flaws that I think need fixing.
    1) Not being able to save your workout if you quit halfway through. The other day I wasn’t feeling great in the middle of a conditioning circuit so I decided to stop, but to my dismay non of my progress was saved. Now if I want coach feedback for future weeks, I have to go back and start all over. Having an option to save your progress would be a great feature to implement for people who know their bodies well enough to know when to quit.
    2) Not being able to customize the workouts. This is the biggest issue for me. You can give very vague customizations at the beginning of every workout by tapping on the coach icon, but their only very basic things like “I can’t run today” or “I only have 15 minutes”. There is no option to swap out a workout with something similar or reduce/increase repetitions. Having this option would make the “tailored for your needs” part of the app so much more effective.

  • No free workout

The app name is Freeletics but everytime I picked any workout it kept asking me for $95. I couldn’t find any free workout.
