  • Fantastic!

I tried this and another one (nameless just because) and Chunky won. Intuitive and really easy to use. The free version has no real limitations since you can download comics from a number of cloud sources. I was uploading them to iCloud to get them into Chunky.

I liked it so much I decided to pay since it’s relatively inexpensive. Getting comics into it is now easier because I can skip the cloud load and drop them right into it by using a web browser.

    Nice!

Chrome has an extension which will allow you to make a local backup of your ComiXology comics so you can bring them into Chunky.

  • Easy to use but just as good as acrobat reader

Eaay to use but it does nothing that Adobe Acrobat reader or Apple Books doesnt.
  • Great but room for improvement

Please make an option to rotate individual pages and the app to remember them. Some of my obsolete scanned magazines appear rotated and the rotation appears differently on each page, so an option to rotate the whole document would be great but not enough. Funnily they do appear correctly on my computer. I know that at the end of the day it is the file’s fault but it would be great to have the option to correct it inside this viewer app.

  • A shame the developer has mostly abandoned it

This is a good app. Well worth the money. But it has bugs now going on for years.

I do hope this COVID19 pandemic will lead to more people embracing drm-free comics and apps like these. Media as a service does not work for books and it does not work for comics.

Still thank you for the work on this app and making it 64bit compatible. It has been a life saver.

  • Waste of time

Won’t connect to web server soi can get my comics
  • Close but a few issues

I’ve explored every comic app I can and after years on Comic Zeal I moved over to this. The integration with iCloud is what did it. That said there a few problems that I wish could be resolved.

The first concerns the iCloud integration. The app keeps refreshing the contents of that linked drive folder, and doing so deleted any saved positions and removed these items from the Now Reading list. That’s a pain.

The other is how it organizes things. You either let the app do it, or you get everything A-Z. Every attempt I’ve made to manually organize things eventually gets reset. There needs to be better support for manual organization.

The app is really close to being perfect, but these two issues are what keep it at 3 stars and not 5.

  • Super clean and great, I just wish I could get ubooquity to work right

This app is amazing, it has a clean design and organizes my comics. I paid for the full version so that I could grab my comics straight from my Mac wherever I am. However, I can’t get the app to connect properly with ubooquity so that I can stream my comics rather than downloading them. Although I’m inclined to think that’s more of a ubooquity problem than a chunky one, since their interface is pretty meh. This app is already hands down the best comic reader but once I can get that rolling it’ll truly be unstoppable.

  • The very best of the best!

Like others have said, I have tried so many different manga/apps and this is the one to get and support! It looks fantastic and makes organizing your mobile collection incredibly easy. My iPad Pro is 70% Manga and 10% Comics. I needed a serious comic app that would be easy to transfer from local network, cloud, and web sites. This app does it all with ease and style. The auto sorting makes organizing a snap and then you can easily adjust and customize. Beyond easy transfers and organizing I could go on and on about the actual viewing of my media. It makes even my low quality media look its best and gives you so many options on how to view and read.

Michael, if you happen to read this, thank you for developing such a fantastic app. I am so happy to support this app both in reviews and financially. Please feel free to use this review in any way to support your excellent work. Thank you!

  • The perfect app to compliment the ipad pro

I recently switched from me beloved samsung tab device because my comic reading habits were becoming dfficult with a 10.5" screen. I had to stick with it thogh as funds are tight, but a famiy friend gave me his old ipad pro. I love it, but was having trouble adjusting from cdisplay ex. I stumbled across chunky, and immediately took to it - extremely intuitive and user friendly, I feel that the makers of cdisplay could learn much from this app.

  • ok sorry Chunky does have Dropbox integration!

Still checking out the app, but overall it’s pretty good. Contrary to my first review, it does have Dropbox integration (though w/o the indexing & search feature that, e.g., Marvin has), and it’s also part of the basic version (I managed to overlook it and the dev dropped me a note, thanks btw). Buying the pro version now anyway because, well, devs need to buy groceries and stuff.
