  • Good browser, but I wouldn’t use it if it weren’t environmentally friendly

I think this is a solid browser and definitely gets the job done but still isn’t as good as something like safari. When you click into the address bar at the top, the entire link to the site your on doesn’t get highlighted, which makes it annoying to copy/paste links when sending to friends. Also, you have to hit a back button in order to go back, rather than swiping your finger moving right from the side of the screen, like in chrome/safari. There’s just little stuff like that that makes the app worse. That being said, I use it because apple doesn’t let me set ecosia as the default search engine on safari. If that were possible, I’d switch back to safari immediately but continue with the environmental benefits of ecosia.

I hope they make some changes!

  • Most recent update problems

In general I really do love this app.

But the most recent update has all sorts of problems. The biggest: The app won’t open. It opens for about 1.5 seconds and then the screen goes black and it crashes immediately. It happens every time. I’ve tried restarting my phone. Closing the app. Closing all other apps on my phone. Trying multiple times in a row. Trying it after not using my phone for a while. And every single time it keeps opening and then immediately crashing.
This started only after the most recent update that I downloaded earlier today. Prior to that I had been keeping up with the updates and versions of the app.
While the previous update did improve certain aspects of the app—like search history and tabs features—it had a bit of a problem with the screen constantly flipping between showing the top and bottom search bars and not, even without touch, just based on movement. I like to read on my phone and this makes it difficult to keep track of where you are when reading a longer article/piece. The menu/app bars were very unstable and would pop up and jump the page at the slightest touch or movement or change in position/angle of my phone.
Of course that was the second most recent update. The most recent update won’t let the app open at all.

I’m hoping for a speedy update fix because I really do enjoy using Ecosia and love the premise.

    Developer Response

Thanks for spending some effort with your useful feedback! We have been working hard to fix issues with the app, please update to the latest version 4.0.4 and hopefully a lot of issues are resolved :)
  • 4.0.2 crash bug

Since the 4.0.2 update, on every device, when the app is opened it immediately crashes. When the app was previously functional, the search engine was amazing and stylish, with standards and loading time comparable to google and or the safari app. In the top right a small image of a tree is displayed with a counter of the amount of searches so far - and with every 45 searches, a tree is planted. This small feature encourages you to use the app and is one of my favorite features! Other than the current bug, I would highly recommend the app to anyone looking to see if it is worth downloading! Thank you for all that you do :)

  • Search Bar is a bit annoying

Great app! The update is so much better but the search bar is annoying. When you click on it when it's not empty it should highlight what you have in there so you can start typing your new search straight away. The search bar now is frustrating because every time you put something in there it adds to whatever address was there in the first place and your search doesn't come up because the original address hasn't cleared.
Other than that the history and tab thing is soooo much better. I never used to be able to clear tabs properly and it would play videos I'd exited out of a while ago as soon as I would open the app.

  • New Updated Features!

If you haven’t already, make sure you update to the latest version of Ecosia for iOS. Some features I like:
    +full-screen browsing experience
    +intuitive tabs
    +clean, minimal look
  • Love the new Design

Hey! First of all, thank you so so much for making Ecosia. I think that it is perfect for people that want to help the planet but they just don’t know what to do (me). And I love the new design of the app, it’s much more modern and faster than the old one!
  • Love the idea, not the execution

I love the idea of being able to plant trees with simple searches from my phone, however the actual execution could use some work. I’m not fond of the app itself, it keeps somehow losing the pages I last loaded when I go back into the app after being in a different one. Or it doesn’t update the page. As in, I read from my phone, and I’ll be in several chapters then leave the app because someone messaged me, then when I come back it has me several chapters behind. I then have to find which chapter I was on and scroll through to get to where I left off. In that sense the app itself is impractical. It also doesn’t allow separate tabs to be just that - separate. It has tab options but when you leave the new tab to go back to an older one, you can’t go back a page from the original tab, it portals you to the new tab. For research purposes this is unbearably frustrating. It would help if they could fix these things and make it run like a normal search engine, or have a way to add Ecosia as the default browser in safari. Because I would love to see this work, but at the moment it just doesn’t do it for me.

  • An amazing app but ..

To say the least, ecosia is the amazing search engine with a clear objective in mind which is to plant trees. I had been looking for a way to make things good for the environment and you guys did exactly it. However, I want to say one thing; how the homescreen is laid out. There are projects, stories and others at the bottom which in my opinion unnecessary. It is understandable that you need to promote your activities but most people just find it annoying. If you get rid of that, the homescreen would look much simpler and nicer. I hope you would make some changes

  • No support

It doesn’t support some website I need and it’s very slow
  • This app is brilliant!

I highly recommend everyone to stop using whatever search engine they are using and use this instead. There are only a couple ads that you can scroll past and then it’s the same as any other browser but those adds help plant trees.
